It may be the best Cedar Fair park, but he probably doesn't see it that way because he has gone there so much. He doesn't realize what a gem it is. I have made visits in 2018 & 2021, and those 5 combined days are among my favorite 5 days at any park. I have more fun there than at Cedar Point.

I'm always surprised at how under invested Dorney is. It's a short drive from NYC and Philly and even though there's a lot of local competition, there's still a lot of market to tap. When Great Adventure and Hershey get 3 million visits + a year, it's so strange that there's not a push to make this a more formidable player.

Canadas wonderland REALLY deserves more love. 90% of their coasters are way overhated, in terms of cedar fair they are unmatched in the atmosphere department, and to me they blow Carowinds out of the water for the atmosphere and flat rides collection alone. Worlds of Fun is themed after the Jules Verne novel Around the World in 80 Days. Themed areas of the park include the following continents: Americana, Europa, Africa, Scandinavia and Orient. “We chose the large, multicolored ascension balloon for our symbol because it represents fun, adventure and travel reminiscent of the movie, Around the World in 80 Days. These are the things we want Worlds of Fun to represent.” - Jack Steadman, 1971. (park opened in '73)

I was surprised that Canada's Wonderland was in the middle, but I can understand your reasoning~ Cedar Fair is definitely doing their best to ensure this park is one of their best, and I truly think that they are doing a good job at that. I’ve only been to four cedar fair parks but kings islands atmosphere and great collection of coasters have to make it number one
@thefactsarethese36682 жыл бұрын
I can't disagree too much with the list, but I have some thoughts: -Worlds of Fun's aesthetics are truly underrated. -Valleyfair has its merits, but has an awful layout and honestly I'd rather be at MOA. It's less generic than Dorney or MIA but is otherwise fairly unremarkable. (What struck me also is that the park is weirdly in the middle of nowhere, not quite MIA but very hidden for a major amusement park. You'd never find it if you didn't know where to go.) -Carowinds has some great rides, but those great rides lead it to be a bit overrated by most enthusiasts at the moment (and I say that as someone who has had Fury at my #1 at times). Compare the atmosphere of Carowinds to Kings Dominion and there's just no comparison for me. -Cedar Point is absolutely the number one park on paper; however, there are persistent issues (staffing, restrooms in desperate need of renovation, FL cost/amount sold, operations just aren't where they were during Kinzel's time, etc.) that they seem to continue to struggle to solve; not all of them are necessarily their fault, but I'm not fully confident that they will be fixed anytime soon. Whereas Kings Island has made undeniable progress in every area that was previously holding them back and only seems poised to continue making improvements. Canada's Wonderland is the only "proper" CF park I haven't been to, but here's how I'd rank the rest: 1. Kings Island 2. Cedar Point 3. Knott's 4. Kings Dominion 5. Carowinds 6. Worlds of Fun 7. CGA 8. Valleyfair 9. Dorney 10. MIA

British enthusiast here…very strongly considering and researching a 2-week Cedar Fair trip of a lifetime next year, taking in at least Cedar Point, Kings Island, Carowinds and Kings Dominion. Question: if Dollywood were a CF park, where would it fit on this list? I’m wondering if I simply have to include that as well!

Dollywood is my overall # 1 park. Definitely include it!!! If coasters are the only thing you care about, you won't rank it nearly as high as me. But if you enjoy great atmosphere, great scenery with the mountains, great music and shows, friendly staff, in addition to some great rides, then Dollywood is a must!

@mikemcmahon76242 жыл бұрын
Here to point out one other park - if this is a “trip of a lifetime” style trip, you can be a little flexible with scheduling, and you like how Dollywood seems, I strongly recommend giving a look to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Everything that’s incredible about Dollywood is also present at BGW, and I’d argue BGW does it even better (this is a compliment to BGW, not a slight at Dollywood). The only park on this list I would even *consider* putting ahead of BGW is Cedar Point. Oh, and it’s only about an hour away from Kings Dominion. So very easy to add from a logistics standpoint.

I could also go either way as someone that has done KI about 30+ times and cedar point approximately 125 times the past several years I would agree that KI outclasses CP at much higher percentage of visits. However every now and then you get that experience at CP that just ends up being unmatched.

I worked at Cedar Point when I was in college (in the '80s). This was when the staff was all recruited from our regional colleges. Now it appears that they're on some kind of foreign exchange student program - nothing wrong with that, except for the language barrier taking a bite out of the warm atmosphere. I'll always love Cedar Point and that incredibly fun summer. What is KI cost, ride wait, etc compared to CP? Ive heard CP has gotten ridiculously crowded and pricey even more so than the hundreds of times I went there as a 90s kid. I also have some young relatives who moved to Central Ohio from Cleveland & KI seems like a much better option now for them
@Coasterteam2 жыл бұрын
@@fredwilson1188 KI is still a smaller park compared to CP, based on mere ride count alone. KI is around the same price as Cedar Point, but has significantly less wait times. One can make the argument that there is no equivalent of Steve, Maverick, Millie, or Dragster at KI, but there's also no equivalent of Mystic, Beast, Diamondback, or Flight of Fear at CP. Not that KI doesn't get as busy as CP, as last Halloween Haunt had some of the busiest days ever at both KI and CP. Some additional prices, last season FLP at CP on a Saturday was $249, while only $125 at KI (sometimes even $105 on a Saturday!) I feel like the value of it is much higher at KI than CP because the merge point/FL line is much closer to the station or right up to the station entirely. KI is also a lot more terrain based, while CP is much flatter. You'll be walking up and down hills in the Rivertown section and in the middle of the park. To give more of an idea on the wait times, here's a few examples. October 16th 2021 (one of, if not the busiest day, of the season), KI: queue-times.com/en-US/parks/60/calendar/2021/10/16 CP: queue-times.com/en-US/parks/50/calendar/2021/10/16 July 14th: KI: queue-times.com/en-US/parks/60/calendar/2021/07/14 queue-times.com/en-US/parks/50/calendar/2021/07/14 The wait times can vary each day, some days CP may be a ghost town while KI is packed, or flipped, or both. Generally, you'll see shorter lines at KI just because it's more of a regional park than a destination park (CP).

I completely agree with this. I had to laugh when Taylor said guest experience. Cedar Point lately has let me down in cleanliness and environment. I fret to use the bathrooms here just because of how dirty they’ve been at times. Then I turn around and go to Kings Island (CP is about an hour drive for me, KI is about 3.5) and the two negatives of CP become positives. Cleanliness is there, and the atmosphere of the park is just leaps and bounds above CP. From the view of someone who’s going to these two parks for the first time, I can see why so many people have CP at their first spot, but as a familiar person to both of these parks, I’d have to give KI the number one spot!

Being a Cedar Fair Platinum passholder and living in the middle of the state in Columbus, I would kindly disagree with your #1 and #2 order. The reason behind this is due to the waterpark at KI being included with admission for those without season passes. If it is a hot day - it gives you quite a great opportunity to cool off when lines aren't the top priority. We have towed our camper to and stayed at both and while Lake Erie is a beautiful destination in itself, that just doesn't make up for the all inclusive nature of KI. Thank you for the ranking - by the way we were USOAP and Dollywood passholders over the past couple years and I must say, Dollywood is a dud but with some decent roller coasters (though 1 is too violent to enjoy) - USO while not a dud - has far less thrill rides than KI or CP for what it's worth. I think the park does actually have some pretty sections like the demon drop area, the thunderhawk path, and the area by thunder creek mountain and thunder canyon that no one goes to. It feels good to be around there. I mean this in the most unironic way possible, planet snoopy is my favorite area. It’s a nice place to walk though and it’s in the middle of the park so yeah. Something else about that atmosphere is that it’s vastly improved during haunt. The park is very popular then, and all the dead areas that feel empty suddenly have hundreds of people. It makes the park feel great. Don’t get me wrong, Dorney is definitely in the lower tier of cedar fair parks, but I feel like you did it a little dirty right next to michigans adventure. But then again, there isn’t really a middle ground between Dorney and michigans adventure. I guess that means that Dorney at number 10 makes the others look a lot better :)

Fun fact: When I was a kid, we used to go to Michigan’s Adventure. My mom, dad, brother, and I got stuck on their Cork Crew. We went 7 times in a row. It was fun at first, but after the third run, and it kept going, we started to panic. The breaks were wet (that’s what they said), and they couldn’t get it to stop in the load/unload area. It was scary. I was young, and thought it would never quit, and we’d be skeletons riding it forever.

Kings Dominion is my # 1 Cedar Fair park! It has my favorite top 2 of any park, and I always have such a great time there. Cedar Point clearly has the better overall coaster lineup, but the extremely long lines bump it down a couple notches in my book. I have not gone to Kings Dominion on a weekend, but I have never seen a line there, which makes for such a great experience. Kings Island can have some slower days (if rain is in the forecast), but it's usually very busy, and assigned seating on all coasters knocks it down some. Plus, they have no Intamins nor an RMC.
@mjpa4202 жыл бұрын
Kudos to CP for building their business to where it is, but I miss when the park wasn't as busy as it is now. I loved showing up on a Monday or Tuesday in the early summer and only having 15 minute waits for rides. Now you have to spend $150 extra for fast lane plus to still stand in line for 90 minutes.

My "home park" is MIAdventure but I've actually never been because Cedar Point is only a few hours farther away and outclasses it in every way. Some day I'll go to Kings Island but the only chance MIAdventure has of having me go there is if I get a season pass, because it's the only park that I could reasonably do that at and get serious use out of it.

Michigan's Adventure just needs a few new flats and another standout coaster to climb up to about Dorney/WoF
@JCBro-yg8vd2 жыл бұрын
It really needs just something new. Even just an RMC of Wolverine Wildcat would do wonders.
@Danrarbc2 жыл бұрын
It needs more than that. Beautification is needed and it needs to be a full loop. Honestly I don't think a new single standout coaster is important, Timbers is its standout. Reprofile Wolverine Wildcat ala-Ghostrider and I feel like adding two good supporting coasters would do far more for it than just one great one.
@appalachianenthusiast94992 жыл бұрын
@@Danrarbc A Zamperla Disk'O, S&S Double Shot, Zamperla Nebulaz, Vortex AquaLoop, and a Gerstlauer Eurofighter (bye bye Corkscrew) would be the additions to boost MA over Dorney.
@JCBro-yg8vd2 жыл бұрын
@@Danrarbc True, but any investment at all at this point would be appreciated. Some sign that Cedar Fair cares about it, rather than thinking that because its profitable now they don't have to change anything. Sooner or later, people will stop coming if there's nothing new to see. What are they gonna do when Corkscrew inevitably reaches the end of its service life? Are they just gonna leave a big gap?

@@JCBro-yg8vd Six Flags has parks in this same situation. Profitable, fairly stable local attendance without adding anything big - so they just don't add anything big.

@@martindipshit8673 Atmosphere was more enjoyable, Staff was friendlier, Ride Ops were more efficient, and felt like you were treated more as a person instead of a Cash cow 🐄 Also if you stack the lineup against CPs minus SV and TTD, I prefer KIs lineup. Yes, I'll say it louder for the CP Fan Boys Orion is better than Millie, Banshee blows Raptor out the water, Diamondback is on par with Magnum, and Mystic Timbers minus the Shed holds it's own with Maverick. The supporting cast of Coasters is better IMO also even though not as unique. Valravn and Gatekeeper aren't even the best B&M Dive and Wing Coasters on the market. Thunderbird and Griffon holds those accolades from my Experiences.

I’ve been to Cedar Point, Carowinds, Kings Dominion, Dorney, and Valleyfair, and Dorney was definitely the worst of the ones I’ve been to. Kings Dominion is one of my home parks, too, and I’m excited about their future. If you say Kings Island could easily be #1 on this list, I guess I definitely need to try to visit!

I personally enjoyed Kings Island more than Cedar Point, because it was storming for around 2 hours and my family was stuck in the Diamondback station, and the ride operators were doing trivia for a while, and everything was a 5 minute - walk on wait except for flight of fear (even Orion had a 5 minute wait)

I love the video. Michigan's Adventure, you gave that one the Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon 100 chairshots at Wrestlemania. From a family man standpoint, if you look at the foods, children's rides area and water park upgrades plus atmosphere, Cedar Fair is working their magic on improvements. I would say give it time. Compare the park from all aspects to what it was before the Cedar Fair ownership and I think it has improved greatly, just from a business standpoint. They should add a flat until they get that new coaster, knock on wood that they do 😂😂😂 I love the vid.

If any of these theme parks get name changes with six flags at the beginning of it like with paramount, this is how I think they should handle it: Six Flags Michigan’s Adventures Six Flags Dorney Park Six Flags of Fun (both theme park and water park) Six Flags Valley Fair Six Flags Great America (West End) Six Flags Canada’s Wonderland Six Flags Kings Dominion Six Flags Berry Farm (something tells me they won’t keep Knotts in the name) Six Flags Carowinds Six Flags King Island Six Flags Cedar Point (people think Cedar Point’s just going to be renamed Six Flags) I don’t think that’s the case BTW I love the ranking placements in this video

I've been to 8 of the 11 Cedar Fair parks This is how I really them. (1) Knott's Berry Farm. because it's my home park and the BEST park in the chain and the only year round Cedar Fair Park. (2) Dorney Park. it may not have have the biggest coaster collection but this park still had it quirks and charms. I love the zephyr train that takes you for a ride around the creek. And they have geese you can feed plus they have their funky B&M floorless coaster Hydra. (3) kings Dominion. It may rank low on other enthusiasts list but I definitely loved their atmosphere. It has the best and most lush international street with tall trees and beautiful thematic music. I love sandy apple Grove and the singing mushrooms. (4 )Carowinds. It may not have the heart like Knott's does but it still has a lot to see and do. Fury 325 is the star attraction here and that drop is amazing. I was unhappy with the park's lack of water rides but they do have a good mix of coasters and flat rides. (5) Kings Island. While it's the more popular of the two Kings parks It does have a good coaster lineup. The beast will be a standout coaster once it gets a full re-tracking.. Diamondback is a great coaster in itself I love the race for your life Charlie Brown log ride. Their food is nothing to write home about but their rides and landscaping are great. (6) Cedar Point. Yes it's the coaster capital of America and I have to say it's every coaster enthusiasts Dream park. It's beautiful location lake Erie is stunning and the drive up the causeway is one of the best welcomes to any park out there. It's got great coaster, a beautiful atmosphere, and a great variety of flat rides. Unfortunately it's food options are what's holding the park back. You can't survive on just junk food. (7) Valleyfair. While not as elaborate or well known like it's other sister parks this park offers a good lineup of coasters and flat rides and a really charming atmosphere. Renegade is the star attraction here that coaster packs a good punch in it's twisting layout. This is the only park I have been to that doesn't have a Starbucks so that didn't bother me. (8) California's Great America. It may not be the best park I have been too but I definitely saw lots of room for improvement here. It's coaster lineup isn't be the greatest either and only Gold Striker stands out as the best coaster there. This park is home the the Berserker one of the lady remaining Bayern kurve rides still operating today. They do have a restaurant with really delicious fried chicken. Unfortunately their carousel gave me the shortest carousel ride I have ever experienced.

From the ones I’ve been to I would go CP, Knotts, KI, Carowinds, KD, WoF, Dorney, MiA in that order. Knotts and KI could flip on any given day, but Knotts blew me away and I’m always left a little underwhelmed with KI.

I visited Kings Island for the first time in 2021 ...Cedar Point is our home park . KI has some great landscaping (The Bat especially)and great rollercoasters that CP doesn't have... Get a Platinum Pass if you live in Ohio and hit up both parks.

Of the CF parks I have been to I would rank them as follows: 1. KI (Some home park bias but still think the overall ops and atmosphere makes #1) 2. CP (Haven't been in a few years but heading up this spring to finally ride StVe) 3. Carrowinds (Fury is my favorite coaster - heading there in the spring to ride Copperhead ) 4. Canada's Wonderland (Been once had a great time loved Lev and Beh) 5. Kings Dominion (Been once got to ride Volcano - hope they get a new top level coaster to replace it [the freespin does not count]. So only halfway there but hopefully one day I can get to the rest especially Knots since you rank it the highest of the ones I have not been too.

My home park is also Kings Dominion. In years past I would argue my home park would have been #2 on the list. But Cedar Fair has not invested as much money into my park lately. I must agree that your line up is right on point as of now. If Cedat Fair invest more in advertising in the Washington DC area I believe Kings Dominion will return back to its hay day glory. Just my thoughts...

Nice coverage. I haven't been to Valleyfair or Knotts, and I haven't been to Carowinds since before Fury. I would have put Canada's Wonderland up a little higher, because of the flat ride selection. They have several flat rides that are difficult to find in the US. I had been ranking Kings Dominion rather high, but loosing a couple of big rides there, Kings Island is definitely better.
