If you include the last shot that I didn’t include Damian Lillard is 7th out of 62 players to take 50+ shots of this variety (started being tracked in 1997) and if you don’t include that shot he is T-6th out of 62

@@Newportnews98 Exactly. Here are Dame's clutch numbers after the first round. 2016 semis vs Warriors, Lillard shot 27.3% from the field and 25% from three. 2019 semis vs Nugs, he shot 40.9% from the field and 28.6% from three. 2019 WCF vs Warriors, Dame shot 20% from the field and 16.7% from three . Yes, he drilled feathery and amazing shots in the first round vs the Rockets in 2014 and Thunder in 2019, at the same time, he literally isn't clutch in the 2nd round and conference finals. Just the facts. I don't hate Dame. I am just being honest. First round series winners doesnt mean you are clutch. Being clutch means being consistent when the game is nip and tuck. Clutch isnt just last second game tying and game wining shots. The NBA defines clutch as the score within 5 points in the final 5 minutes of a game. The facts prove that he sucks in the clutch in certain 1st round series, the whole 2nd round and conferences finals.

@@MarkLaw13 Yeah, you're right. Dame has hit a couple of game winners in the playoffs that greatly enhanced his reputation. Steph meanwhile is like 0-12 on last seconds shots in the playoffs. So that creates an exaggerated difference between them when they're really pretty similar in terms of clutch performance. I will say that Dame seems to be better at creating separation for his jumper though (compared to Steph). I also noticed that both aren't thay great at finishing at the rim. But it makes sense seeing as they are small guards and the rim is often well defended. Bu generally speaking, if you can hit higher than 30% of shots in the clutch, you're pretty much in good company. That seems to be the percentage most superstars hover around.
@brianduru3753
@brianduru3753 Ай бұрын
@raddad1464 Yes, the stat is a bit contrived, but it doesn't really change the fact that for a guy that is the greatest shooter of all time, he hasn't really hit as many last second shots as you'd think. And a part of that can be attributed to the fact that he is a small player (for NBA standards) who doesn't get a lot of separation and so can have his shot bothered. Still, it really doesn't matter to me because clutch is still a very small sample size. A game is 48 minutes long, so why obssess over just a tiny fraction of it (last few seconds)? This past season Steph won clutch player of the year as he hit many clutch shots. The Warriors were also not very good. It's not a great thing to have your team constantly be in 'clutch games'. I'd much prefer a player that makes sure I don't have to be in many clutch situations in the first place by winning the game early. And that's what Steph is so good at: he is so offensively brilliant that he ensures his teams are often winning. Give me Steph over most of these 'clutch killers' anyday. He'll turn 4th quarters into garbage time..
