Imagine going in because you already have organ failure, and then end up with an uncurable disease on top. Bruh. The fact that the transplants occured back in january and the patients only discovered this month is also so foul.

When I was around 3 years old, I had corrective eye surgery. The nurse "forgot" to sedate me (because, obviously, when you're a young child, you're probably gonna panic whilst being taken back for surgery) - I still, to this day, remember panicking & not wanting to go back with her. They also "forgot" to make sure I was completely under anesthesia before they started to try to operate on my eye muscles. From what I do remember, whatever they were doing was EXTREMELY painful. Then I assume the anesthesiologist got it together and accurately sedated & monitored me because I don't remember anything else except my eyes HURTING. I still can't wear contacts. I had another corrective surgery when I was around 14, and panicked so bad that Valium didn't even touch my fight or flight response. Thankfully, my nurses were SO sweet to me during that time. My parents had told them what I'd been through as a toddler and it encourages me to know there are good medical staff and doctors in the world. 💞 Edited to add: My body & mind were in such a state that I was bawling my eyes out, even through the nerve medication. I cried even when they were wheeling me back & moving me onto the operating table. 😅 A nurse just kept holding my hand and asking me things about my life to keep my mind off of my nervous breakdown, lol.

New fear unlocked
@sophieistoonie27 күн бұрын
That reminds me of my first blood work: I was around six and I was an anxious kid. My veins have a tendency to roll, especially if I'm anxious, so when the needle went in my arm, it didn't go in my vein. The nurse then thought it was a good idea to poke around the area with her fingers while the needle was still in my arm. It was very painful and I cried and I tried to tell them to stop but they didn't listen to me, probably because they thought I was being dramatic or something. I was traumatized by the whole ordeal to the point that I'd try to escape doctors offices if they wanted to do blood work on me. I only got over my fear a few years ago because of therapy. I still sometimes have bad memories come back to me when I'm having blood work done and I feel the nurse trying to poke around while the needle is still in.

@@grilledpook Literally when I got my second surgery (at 14), I was still loopy from the anesthesia when I got home. I bawled my eyes out and asked my parents, "Am I gonna be blind?" 🤣😭 I was SO MAD because when you get strabismus surgery, there's kind of a...film (?) over your eyes for awhile. So you need help doing things sometimes. I was so frustrated one day I said, "I wanna do stuff FOR myself, dammit!" Needless to say I will never have another lazy eye correction surgery. I can't stand the thought of anything close to my eyes that isn't makeup. I can definitely tolerate and love glasses. But I'm even jumpy getting regular eye exams. 🥲 I'm weird about any anesthesia. I woke up once during a cavity filling and I was crying. A dental assistant asked me, "Honey, why are you awake, why are you crying? It's okay. Don't worry." And they had to give me more of it bc I was mildly awake. Nothing hurt, physically. I think I was just emotional. 🤣

It's a damn shame you never mentioned the surgery that achieved a legendary 300% mortality rate. This was during ye olden times where speed was favoured over safety. The operation was a leg amputation carried out in an ampitheatre to showcase the record setting speed the surgeon performed such procedures. The surgeon was so fast he completely fucked up to the point where the patient died on the table, an assistant's fingers were severed, leading to a lethal infection and an audience member witnessing all this was so horrified he suffered a heart attack. Psychogenic Death. He literally took psychic damage. The surgeon definitely set a record that day. Just not a record you would want attributed to your name.

It’s not that they’re dumb. Some of the worst mistakes in medicine can and have been made by very smart people. It’s the overworking, potentially the sleep deprivation, the juggling a hundred things to do and keep track of, the urgency to do tasks under high stakes and time sensitive circumstances, the every little way that communication with a team has to be consistently great dozens and dozens of times a day. The other problems with running hospitals as corporations where all kinds of bad incentive structures can also creep in. Poor management of building personal. Understaffing even, sometimes. The slight egotism and overconfidence a lot of surgeons can pick up over time. It’s rarely, if ever, an issue with intellect.

9:58 Not hating by the way, but when you get an eye removed you have to remove a bit of the spinal fluid surrounding the brain along with it. After the eye removal and the spinal tap, the doctor would have to put spinal fluid back in, instead of the spinal fluid the doctor thinking it was the spinal fluid, instead of the fluid it was a similar chemical to formaldehyde and immediately went to his brain. Edit: also instead of succumbing to the chemical his wife pulled the plug, he technically succumbed to his brand new “spinal fluid” 5 days before, when injected.

When I was in 8th grade I had a routine endoscopy done... then ended up in the hospital for nine days! They clipped a major blood vessel and it formed a hematoma (a ball of dried blood) in my GI tract. And if that wasn't bad enough the doctors refused to admit it was their fault- they didn't say 'oh we might have screwed up' until my ninth and final day in the hospital. Now I've got a massive fear of all doctors. And yes my parents did try to sue but the lawyer told them something like "well this was a risk that could happen". The doctors admitted that this was a one in a million chance. I could find one (1) other case on Google of a duodenumal hematoma and it was an elderly man.

Many years ago when I worked in a hospital blood bank, an impatient doctor caused the death of a patient. He had two patients that required transfusions. Patient 1’s blood was ready quickly but patient 2’s blood was taking longer due to a positive antibody screen (neither patient was actively bleeding out, just severely anemic). Patient 1 had a cooler with two units of RBCs in the ER. The impatient doctor decided to give one of those units to patient 2. The problem was that patient 1 was A positive and patient 2 was B positive. Patient 2 started having a hemolytic reaction within minutes, had to go on dialysis due to kidney failure, and died a few days later. The hospital kept it quiet and settled with the family. The doctor still works there to this day.

This is one of the reasons I'm scared of going to the doctor or the hospital until it gets unbearable, scared of misdiagnosis and bad doctors
@ContentEnjoyer-gm3ky16 күн бұрын
Well, if you think you have a serious disease, and they misdiagnose you, you might as well make a switch for any other doctor until they do affirm you have that disease. However, I wouldn’t hop into the conclusion that I had a terrible disease.

So what happened to Candy afterwards? Considering how the judge had to get part of his intestines removed, wouldn’t she have suffered something similar as she had a sponge in her too?
@hopefullyhelping66646 күн бұрын
Breasts are pretty good at encapsulating things they deem as foreign. The sponge was encapsulated, so even though it was still causing issues, it was probably more of a reconstructive effort. I imagine the lump destabilized her regular breast tissue/fat and once removed left empty space.

The most common mistake in medicine. miss labeling error. This is why doctors and surgeon constantly ask you the same question over and over again or ask you what specific surgery we are doing/what are we removing.

It always amazes me how certified doctors and nurses manage to amputate the wrong appendage. Like, guys, don't you prep everything pre-operation? Don't you have documents about the patient and should know which leg, arm, testicle or whatever has to be removed? Or talked to them before about the issue and whole ordeal? Do you know where the left and right side is???

Paid through fucking taxation. And it’s not that good either. Those feel good policies don’t change anything. People already pay to have their kids brainwashed and fucked in schools.

VA surgeries are a complete joke. I was only a kid at the time when this happened so I don't know everything, but my dad was in the Air Force. They screwed up his teeth BAD and when he went in for abdominal surgery (I can't remember the reason) they took out his appendix when that wasn't even what was causing the issue. My dad is 48 today (happy birthday!) and he still suffers from the ineptitude the VA put him through.
