I usually don't put too much weight in the idea that Etho can't or won't do something. He didn't like building... until he did. He wasn't good with noteblocks... until he was. He wasn't interested in MCC... until he was. Right now I'd put "changing his skin" as less likely than "becoming decent at Sword PVP" and more likely than streaming, asking for likes/subs, or face reveal. P.S. Thanks for compiling this info!

Commenting before watching, hoping you don't forget 'buttface Etho' Edit: ok, I'll explain 'buttface Etho' - I was randomly browsing on KZbin when I found an old AnderZel video titled: "Mindcrack Caving with Etho Face Butt." This video is possibly the only appearance of 'buttface Etho' that still survives. Etho made a new skin for 1.8, but the Mindcrack server was still on Minecraft 1.7, and 1.8 skin textures don't map onto the player model properly in 1.7. This caused Etho to have a garbled appearance: with part of his shirt covering his face and other parts being completely blank! Most shocking of all, his miniature face appearing on his butt!

It's funny because I was also a huge fan of Sethbling growing up and he became known for using a Mario skin so I like to imagine there's some version of reality where Etho never switched off the Mario skin and still got popular, leading to there being two Minecraft redstone creators with Mario skins 😭

As a Very longtime Etho watcher who has a memory for weird shit, I thought I'd drop a few notes and points mainly for the sake of the commenters! And also let me preface by saying the creator has done an excellent job, these are just a few things I've seen pop up! 1) Etho doesn't know how to/doesn't want to change his skin (for fear of breaking something) - I want to say this joke started in earnest during season 3 of Mindcrack (2012/2013)? At the very least, this was before the 1.8/1.7 skin update broke it briefly in the changeover. The fact that it has lasted so long as a gag is great, though. 2) I'm sure there are many people out there who were introduced to Kakashi via Etho and thought of this as the "Etho skin" without knowing it was Kakashi. Fear not, friends, now you know! 3) The 1.8 skin change was actually quite significant (I was a little surprised you didn't show us the before!) at the time- Before then, the face under the mask was plain colored around the base instead of having the band, and there was even a pseudo mouth? Sort of? It was two pixels roughly the same color as the mask but it was in the spot where a mouth would be, not attached to the chin! 3.5) The above was also before the head rendering(?) was adjusted so it would include hat features, so Etho was then subject to the bare face when beheaded issue that plagued many good men with layered skins at the time.

It wasnt specific, but on the latest episode of the Imp and Skizz Podcast, they interviewed Etho and he reveleaded that the Mario Skin was based on the NES Mario, and that a lot of other people had that exact same skin. Great video!

Etho influences me and my playstyle so much. I never made the connection to my skin history being roughly the same as his though, until just now. I started playing just a few months before 1.5 released (the update where he would invent The Etho Hopper Clock, one of my most used redstone contraptions), and a few days after starting, I found a Squall Leonheart skin that I really liked (the main player character from Final Fantasy VIII). I've only changed it once, and that was when 1.8 dropped. The girl I was dating at the time did a minor update for me, adding layers to make it more textured. It hasn't changed since, even outlasting the relationship. My alt account though... yeah, that's had dozens of skins and several name changes. Wouldn't be surprised to find out the same for Etho, silently and secretly out there playing on small servers.

There was a skin swap charity event (season 8?) and I beleive that Etho was supposed to switch with either Cleo or Stress? I don't think it ever ended up happening because Etho had quit playing for his real life reasons at the time, but that was another potential Etho skin swap.

Always hoped he'd switch to a more original concept skin that was just inspired by Kakashi rather then directly being Kakashi himself, just because I've always preferred having unique and custom-made skins rather then ones anyone could theoretically use, or ones that are of existing characters. At this point though, that might be a bad idea if not impossible. it's gotten to the point where people see Kakashi and think "Etho" instead of the other way around. The Kakashi skin has BECOME his skin. Plus changing skins would be a whole branding issue, suddenly old merch is no longer accurate and the like.

wait omg. i remember when i first jouned the fandom it was always a joke (that seemed to be based off of truth for me) that etho didnt Know how to change his skin, and that the etho face under the jacket stayed Only for that reason. WDYM ETHO ADDED LAYERS AND THAT STUOID FACE HIMSELF. I GENUINLY NOT ONLY LEARNT SMTH NEW FROM THIS VIDEO BUT ACTUALLY LEARNT THAT I WAS _WRONG_

I don't even like Naruto, but I do know that Kakashi is one of the most important characters for the series... and it's kind funny that Etho choosed that skin even before he became the guy who he is today... you know, one of the most important figures in Minecraft, you can probably say that Minecraft would be different if wasn't for him, how much different is another question... but certanly it would be different.
