Movie stores always seemed to have the same smell. Nothing compares to going to the movie store on Friday getting a movie and a video game for a sleepover. Kids won’t be able to experience that feeling.

I was born in 91. I remember my parents bringing us to a mom and pop video rental store for years. Blockbuster and Hollywood Video did finally come to our area and put them out of business. I just remember when new release movies stopped renting as much, they'd only keep a couple copies and then put all the extras in a bin for 25 cents. They had toy/candy vending machines and ice cream, too! Those were the days.

I remember the mom and pops movie/game rentals. I was born 85, my rental store had Revenge of Shinobi arcade cabinet and a Simpsons Pinball machine. I would always play RoS every time I came to that store. My dad would rent out nothing but action movies. I miss the 80’s/90’s! 😢

We had a place in my small town in Delaware called RC Video. We’d go so often that the guy who ran it would always let me and my siblings get an extra movie or game for free. Also introduced me to all the goofy 80s horror movies when I turned 13 that I still love to this day. So many fond memories that I wish my kid could experience. RIP RC Video and every other video store

Our local video rental store was called Versatile Video in Dunwoody, GA. No chain, no big box stuff. Just a classic video rental spot with all the NES/SNES, Genesis and "other" video games you could handle. Loved it. Blockbuster eventually moved in down the street around 2000 but this video spot kept going well into the 2000s. I miss it dearly.

80's kid here. Every Friday, my mom would take me and my friends to Music Plus. It was the big box retailer in my town that sold/rent movies and music on tapes and vinyl. Sometimes my mom would also grab a 45 for herself (yep..legit that OLD). Then we would go to my house and all gather around our 20 in TV and watch the movie on our VHS player (sweet set up right there.).

Later in life it was Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. As a kid I remember this place, Castle Video, or something like that. There was a Palmer Video a couple blocks from my house, so that was my go-to rental spot. I spent a whole summer playing Sonic 2 on their Genesis demo unit, and I once had my bike stolen outside the store because I spent so much time playing their Marvel Super Heroes arcade cabinet that I didn't even notice my bike was gone. Eventually, its name changed to West Coast Video and a Hollywood Video opened a few blocks further up the road.

This video made me smile too much. It reminded me of the movie rental store I used to work at called Budd Street Video, in Sharon, PA. It sold games and VHS and everything else. A local Ma and Pa store that was like a second home for me, I was there so much. I remember working there one day and Dragonquest 3 AND 4 came into the store and I was able to buy it at a fair price from the store. It was awesome. Later, I worked at West Coast video, then Movie Gallery, and finally Blockbuster. Then I worked at a movie theater, so yeah... you could say life was all about the entertainment mediums back in the day. I love Rick's insane transformation into a little kid when he came to this store. You can see his passion so clearly as he is in awe of what this ridiculously awesome dude has done with this store (I'm tempted to get on a plane and fly there to check it out!). I love especially the big TV with the Super Mario Bros waiting to be played. So so so retro! Anyway, glad you shared this one Rick. And the only advice I think you need is twofold: 1. Pay more attention to the people commenting on your videos. You always ask us to comment but then I never see any kind of reply from you in the videos you make, like referencing what we all tell you. I think it would be cool to see some more interaction from you with your fans. 2. You really should consider putting your store online and sell items on a Retro Rick webstore. I'd be happy to help you set it up, as I'm a website developer and game programmer. I think you would be selling a heck of a lot more that way and also even get new items possibly that way too. Consider it. I'm here to help you if you need. Good work guys!

I grew up extremely rural so we had no big brand name stores that did rentals. However we did have one restaurant in town that did them. They had a small wall that had a variety of N64 and SNES games, and would rent them out to people. I remember renting out the Mario Party games quite often, but the real core memories from there lie in my repeated rentals of Mischief Makers for the N64, and Kirby's Dream Course for the SNES. We rented that Kirby game so often the lady that owned the restaurant asked us if we just wanted to outright buy it from her instead. We did. I still love that game to this day.

My home town Shelton, CT had several places for video and game rentals. My high school gfs mom had a rental store (strategic relationship😂). We had a blockbuster and most nostalgic for me was Video 7. It was a 2 family house on the corner downtown and the bottom floor was the store. So many memories going with my parents to rent vhs and Nintendo games. Actually I heard that Chris from Retro Games Plus made a deal on stuff from the store when the owner passed recently. I missed out on it. Had a friend of a friend who was helping with the clean out getting the property ready for sale. Sad driving by now and not seeing the Video 7 sign

I grew up pretty poor so my parents took us to the hole in the wall video store run by a nice Korean couple. Tapes were $1 each to rent and their selection was AMAZING.
