Having just celebrated my 73rd birthday, I mentioned the head movement to my club professional as he had previously coached Bernhard Langer, and he agreed with you. So I tried it for the last two days, one social round off the white tees (15 H/cap) and next day ( 3/5 /23 ) Stableford competition off yellow tees (14 H/cap ). Both scores 36 points and only one fairway missed. Not only does it work, but I am able to hit through the ball more consistently with much better ball striking, also with the irons.

Alex, thanks for pointing out this video lesson and analysis. This is where my journey has me at moment. Almost everything that I am discovering now is what you are explaining in this video. My back feels less tension with this set up and action. I also feel like the heel of the club is leading the toe until just before impact. The release is more free and almost automatic. Your words are so inspiring. I have not felt this powerful in a long time. So much more distance and confidence. I am getting coil with out trying or stress. I feel my glutes perform better with less flare. What you described makes more sense to me now. Thanks again for informing me about this video. You are making it more simple and relevant!

Another way to increase the backswing turn is to raise the left (front) heel quite high, like they did in the old days. Jack Nicklaus (a younger old timer) for example, had a very high heel lift in his younger days.

Really enjoyed picking your talk on Langer who just won and turns out the most winning ever after 60 years old so great choice. My short back swing is not giving me great distance that I want. Is there a trick to gain more distance with a short back swing using some of Langers method?
@TheArtofSimpleGolf
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks and yes… the factor is usually having a better transition. Try allowing heel to raise etc and plant down. Short does not mean rushed. The sequence can still be smooth. We have an e tire program on maximizing a short swing and a few videos on it as well

What are your thoughts on back foot on the ground and momentum lifting it or heal up on down swing to impact? What is the effect of both? Some players heal is down at impact and some is up!
@TheArtofSimpleGolf
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Жыл бұрын
It’s very individual but also the path of the club affects the trail leg a lot too. Inside often keeps trail foot down longer. It not always. It depends on how open you can or want to be. Keeping it down a little longer and rolling it in is a nice swing upstate for many

I've always stood square toed. No idea why. Just my style. Well I'm 58 this year and feel I need to make my turn and follow through easier to complete. I'm wondering if I should just try my lead foot only first. I have tried it but like a grip change I have found it hard to do and it feels really weird. I'm a 4.3 index. What do you think?
@TheArtofSimpleGolf
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Жыл бұрын
Interesting as giving a lesson today and big part was flaring the feet out. Other students better with more square. It’s very dependent on how the rest moves. It’s not an answer I’m afraid but just go test it out. Remember it’s not just about the shot performance now, the longevity and minimal strain on the is key too. 🏌️‍♂️👍

@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Thankyou. I'm at the age where I complete the swing with the arms and over swing badly - left arm collapses. It's not awful when I'm in practice but winter golf means we don't have the daylight or the weather. It's funny how teaching changes over the years. I'm of the "Don't turn your hips much and hit against a firm left side" era. Prior to me it was all reverse C. I'm going to try pointing the lead foot out a bit and see if that helps me hit better down the line rather than across it. Cheers.

Hi Alex, been watching you videos for a few years now. I use an open stance, you did a video on that some time back. I have surgically repaired knees and sometimes some reduced flexibility. Can you revisit that and show how to incorporate some of these concepts and drills for that?
@TheArtofSimpleGolf
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony! Thanks for being with us and your support. I’m sure I recall other comments of yours. 👍You mean for the open stance swing? What in particular? Is it difficult with open stance with knee or are you saying it’s been better for your knees? Let me know what you are struggling with it want to improve. Could be distance, contact, stop xyz, irons. Etc
@anthonybasile7636
@anthonybasile7636 Жыл бұрын
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf It's been easier on my knees because I can get my hips open and clear without putting tons of pressure on my left (front side) knee while driving into it. As I watch some of the videos I just wonder if I, or anyone using a more open stance, would have to make any other adjustments in some of the swing concepts and tips you give in this video as well as your other ones. By going to an open stance I've almost eliminated early extension, etc. Not just by going to open stance but was a major factor in correcting some of my swing flaws as I get a little older. I'm 56 with "a little age above the belt" LOL. my contact has improved but I'm just not getting distance that I used to. Don't know if it's a function of the swing, age or both. Just for reference I get about 150-155 yds on the 7i. That used to be my 8i distance. Should the ball's position in my stance be adjusted? Things of that nature. I hope that gets you information you needed. I really like your "Simple" approach to swing. Doesn't fill the head with a thousand swing thoughts.

Unfortunately like alot of pro's, Langers trail leg doesn't even come close to straightening in the back swing....not sure why this is so commonly seen, is it just laziness? (Michelle Wie also comes to mind as one who doesn't come remotely close to straightening her trail leg either)

Much as I like Alex and his tutorials I don’t think Langar has a swing anyone would want to try and copy despite having a stellar career, even for a relatively small man I think his swing was / is unnaturally flat even in his younger days to a point where I thought he always looked awkward through the ball and maybe the reason he has to turn his head so much on the backswing to give his left shoulder room if he swing more upright he could allow his shoulder to pass under his chin , if you want a text book swing look at Larry Mize yes / no ? Even Hogan wasn’t that flat, but I like your channel Alex .

I’ll take his swing any day of the year. It’s his swing and not yours. If you watch any tour pro, they all have different swings. Are you a pga teacher.?
@TheArtofSimpleGolf
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the feedback and glad you usually like the lessons 🏌️‍♂️👍 Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough in that I’m not telling every golfer to copy him exactly. And not one of my examples was from his younger days. What he can realistically do now, why it works. To lead golfers with realistic expectations of their limits and ability can think for themselves and test out some of the keys mentioned. It’s an easier swing compared to the text book swing and 90% of what is on KZbin.

Upright swingers seem to have a propensity for back problems. Jason Day is a prime example. They probably get more distance but at what cost.
@johnaustin635
@johnaustin635 Жыл бұрын
@@thomasmccauley9607 Wrong, study the physics of the swing or basic mechanics / physics you don’t get more distance from an upright swing , applying basic physics you will get a higher trajectory but not necessarily hit the ball further, there is an optimum swing plane for every golfer and I think Bernhardt is to flat ,but then if you had understood my comment I wasn’t advocating an upright swing I was making an observation on Bernhard Langers swing yes you don’t need to be orthodox to be successful but when it goes wrong it’s easier to diagnose the problem !

All, and I mean ALL, coaches on youtube focus a lot on the swing but NEVER on the equipment used. If any senior tries what Langer does with their spaghetti shafted clubs, they’d hit it worse regardless of how long they practice.
