As others have said, putting spacers on this platform would have a negative effect on the handling. Because it is FWD, a lot of engineering had to go into the suspension to mitigate the physics of FWD. One of those things is a near zero scrub radius. While putting spacers on improves the stance, it is mitigating the effects of the suspension geometry on this car which is crucial for the performance it delivers

No different then people adding a wheel thats 15mm more aggressive in offset. Plenty of track drivers are doing that with wheels. Seems to handle nearly identical to stock but seems a bit flatter in the turns

This is pretty much just a cosmetic mod. You may think that pushing the wheels further out will give you better performance but you are actually messing with the scrub radius and the LSD will not be within its peak performance zone.
@BrosFOURRSpeedАй бұрын
Same thing if I put wheels on the car that had a 15mm more aggressive offset. I see plenty of people who track these cars doing that
@jellysyrup4542Ай бұрын
So does that apply to the aftermarket wheels that companies like Spoon and others run? It seems like no one has a problem with the LSD unless it is not noticeable enough. I thought Honda took the aftermarket world into consideration when making high performance models. Or maybe I’m wrong and the peak performance is only the factory settings and parts.
@BrosFOURRSpeedАй бұрын
@@jellysyrup4542 yeah I doubt 15mm more aggressive offset would throw any issues. These cars have been out long enough and modified heavily over the years and track driven. I’ve never seen issues with that from a small spacer or wheel offset. Car seems a tad more planted and looks great with these. Now a 30mm spacer up front might be a different story as we exceed OEM limits
@ZWortekАй бұрын

Are wheel spacers even safe? Personally, I will rather go down in size to 18in and get beefier sidewall tires.
@BrosFOURRSpeedАй бұрын
They are perfectly safe. As long as you get nice ones like these. If you get cheap cast aluminum ones that aren't hub centric, you may run into issues. But these are no different then me swapping to wheels with a slightly more aggressive offset. Even race cars use spacers sometimes.
@nfspeedy2Ай бұрын
To increase the scrub radius you increase torque steer and aerodynamic drag. The car is also more sensitive to ruts. If you are happy with wheel spacers thats totally fine. To say EVERY Honda Civic Type R NEEDS wheel spacers is a bit dodgy. There are other opinions and preferences in car handling out there!
@BrosFOURRSpeedАй бұрын
Well no matter what other people will have different opinions. This is just mine. But car drives great and with this small of a spacer there won't be negative effects. Exact same thing if I put 15mm more aggressive offset wheels on the car
@nfspeedy2Ай бұрын
@@BrosFOURRSpeed you have doubled the fasteners with your spacers as if you would offset the wheel with a different rim. That decreases the camber stiffness in the corner. If you are not driving that agressively you will not notice a difference.

Wrong. They engineered the offset and camber this way for good reason. It wouldn’t be as “sunken in” if you hadn’t put those god awful rally flaps…also, spacers aren’t very good and actually cause issues later on…besides a minimum appearance effect, they do absolutely nothing for cars like this.
@BrosFOURRSpeedАй бұрын
The flaps were there when I bought the car. But I'm looking at the top of the fender and how much farther out it is from the wheel. This is no different then putting wheels on the car that have a 15mm and 20mm more aggressive offset. Perfectly fine to put on and they make the car look better and effectively lower the center of gravity and widen the track. It's not a million times better handling. But just a tad.
