I have Ballad ranked lower because I didn’t feel like the movie did as good of a job of showing Snow’s descent into power-hungry madness. He’s too likable in the movie such that the ending feels more abrupt and almost like an impossible choice rather than a conscious decision to betray everyone who trust him in order to gain more power.

Nah ngl, after having some time pass since the day i watched the 5th movie... It actually is so si good, i just rly RLY WISH IT DIDNT RUSH THIS MUCH, I RLY FELT THAT IT GOT RUSHED AND SO MY FEELINGS WERE SO MIXED ABOUT IT WHEN IT ENDED i still dont know whether if this is a 7/10 or a 6/10 cuz the 3rd half was amazing, but the ending just felt SO DAMN RUSHED, AND IT RLY RUINED IT FOR ME, and so if they werent planning to make a part 2, then they shouldve not ended it that rushed

If the author expands this book series, there are few stories I’d love to see. 1. Haymitch’s victory would be a cool story. I don’t it being spelled out how he won. That could be a fresh story. 2. Finnick’s victory in the games. We do know what his life was like afterward… 3. An original group of characters within the franchise at different times period…
@brendonbuffaloe8830
@brendonbuffaloe8830 10 ай бұрын
Haymitch’s games are actually described in pretty great detail in catching fire. It was the 50th games, and to commemorate the 2nd quarter quell, they chose 48 tributes to remind the districts that twice as many rebels died in the war than capitol troops. I won’t spoil the ending in case you want to read it, but it would make an interesting movie to build on Haymitch’s character before the games having no victor to mentor him (since Lucy Gray isn’t there). Also, because of how he won, I believe his entire family was killed by the capitol, so that would be interesting to see and dive into Haymitch’s road to alcoholism.

@@brendonbuffaloe8830 it’s been so long since I have read them that the details on his games have escaped for awhile. lol but yes, that would be a great expansion. There’s quite a few years to choose from before Katniss, so there’s many characters who could be highlighted.

I was watching Catching Fire with a friend and I said I wonder if one reason it's so well loved is partly because the violence feels more palatable because it's adults fighting each other and several of them volunteered vs kids being forced to kill each other. I could be wrong but I wonder.
@brendonbuffaloe8830
@brendonbuffaloe8830 10 ай бұрын
Well also, the ones you like all survive for the most part. It’s also not scared children who have no chance like Rue. All of these people have won before, so you feel hope for all of them. When I rewatch the first one, the games are a lot more dull because it’s a true survival game. The arena in catching fire is the tributes’ biggest enemy. They run from the fog, fight the monkeys, etc which provides more intense action than the first one.!
@JCeetraTheGreat
@JCeetraTheGreat 10 ай бұрын
What's interesting about Catching Fire is that NONE of the tributes volunteered for the 75th games. No one wanted back into the arena. As Johanna said, winning the games wins you personal freedom, security, and safety for the rest of your life, and brings glory to your district for the year. But once you've done that once, you're already free, secure, and safe - what could winning the games do for you personally at that point? That and the trauma of having already played in the games becomes a huge factor, even careers had trouble with it following the games. I loved getting the interviews from the District 1 tributes for the 75th games because they're so different from the District 1 tributes for the 74th games. They aren't gung-ho; they're appealing to the sadness of the crowd to try and get out of participating entirely. There's a deleted scene from the Hunger Games movie (which wasn't in the book but would have made for a great addition) where Marvel is talking about how he always wanted to be the one on-screen killing people. Compare that to the District 1 tributes from the 75th games. It's night and day, and it's super compelling to me.

I'm still not sure where I'd put the prequel because, just like you, I feel like it should've been two movies instead of one, but I do feel like they did a good enough job at adapting it, even if I still prefer the book to the movie! I’ve read them all and loved the films. I really enjoyed the latest book and found it a fascinating story. I personally like part 3 of songbirds, as I like that it’s not about the games, it’s about him and that third part shows us how life goes on after the games and it really is here where we see his evolution & the choices he’s willing to make. That’s the main story of the film. If you think it isn’t needed, then you’re seeing it as the story being the Games, not the man. Personally, I loved the swerve of direction. Plus if you think the Games is the story, then that to me only highlights splitting the latest wouldn’t work as then you’d have people annoyed about part two not having any action. Don't really know what my ranking is, but the first Hunger Games movie was one of my favorite theater experiences. My dad took my sister and myself to a midnight screening. There was a jump scare in the 3rd act that really got my dad good. And the lady sitting behind us just couldn't stop laughing at my dad's fear. I also worked at a theater when Catching Fire was out. I can't tell you how many times I watched the last 5 minutes of that film waiting for it to get out. I think I would pretty rank them about the same; I might move Ballads down to the #5 for no other reason than because it's not part of the original series, but it's in the same ballpark as Mockingjays 1 & 2. Catching fire was the peak of the series and was quite something. I loved how they introduce all the new character who are all killers that had won previous games and you have no idea whether they're going to be allies or enemies to our familiar protagonists.

I haven't seen the Katniss films in a while but this is my ranking: 5. Mockingjay Pt 1 4. Mockingjay Pt 2 3. Ballad... 2. Catching Fire 1. The Hunger Games Ironically, the lower budget seems to do wonders for this film. The lower image quality, colour grading, the intimate camerawork, the casual costumes and uniforms the tributes are wearing in what is a relatively normal arena (a forest), or during training at the Capitol, no over the top action, it all feels kinda real instead of cinematic, it feels like you could be watching a sport coverage on TV instead of a movie. And that makes it so relatable. Not to mention it was for many people the introduction to this universe, so the initial shock is bigger, it made me feel quite uncomfortable in that way because I could relate. That is why it is the best movie for me. Catching Fire probably has the best story (book) though.

For me id rank them 1) Catching fire 2) Mockingjay part 2 3) Mockingjay part 1 4) The hunger games 5) The ballad of song birds and snakes -Catching fire speaks for itself imo. -Unlike most people i feel like mockingjay has always been my favourite of the original trilogy. I thought they were adapted beautifully and i loved how they added scenes to show rebellion in the different districts (ex: the rebels bombing the dam in district 5). Mockingjay part 2 is better than 1 for me simply because it covers the juicer part of the book. Also can I just say the lizard muts in the sewers in the movie was honestly fantasic. Easily one of my fav parts of the whole series. -The reason I have the hunger games rated lower honestly just has a lot to do with the direction of the movie. In short, the overuse of the shaky cam the abysmal cgi really ruins a good chunk of this movie for me. -Ballad of song birds and snakes was great. It did the book justice. However, it still remains my least favourite book / story of the series. -All of these are still fantastic films and are in my opinion probably one of the best if not the best book to movie adaptations we have ever seen.

I don’t think Ballad of songbirds and snakes should be a 2 parter. Where would they split? The 3rd act would only last an hour maybe 90 minutes if they did split
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout 10 ай бұрын
You would obviously split it after part 2. As is what they did in part 3 was rushed and underdeveloped. They dropped elements from the book. Snow's scheming and betrayal is kind of lost in the film. And it's not difficult to imagine how they could expand on multiple elements of the lore and his backstory. Just but not rushing things nd adding back in what's cut we're at 90 minutes. You add an additional subplot about any of the many characters who dropped off in part 3, and expand the epilogue and it's an hour and 50 minutes.

I would love you to do a video talking about the future of this series if Suzanne writes more books or whatever; are there different games you want to see? (A certain victors games, or maybe from the perspective of a gamemaker or arena designer)

I personally feel like the first two thirds of ballad of songbirds and snakes should've been a movie titled as 'Part 1', whilst the final third should've probs just been a TV special titled as 'Part 2', due to it not being as long for a movie alone

As someone who has watched the movies and read the books, I have the exact same ranking for the same reasons. I agree that Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes structure is a lot better in the book. For the Mocking Jays, I think having two movies benefit the story. That was always my least favorite of the books and I think it’s a better execution of what the book was trying to do.

And you said Mockingjay part 1 was different than the other movies and I thought that was a good thing you can’t have all movies about the same thing and all the movies can’t be about Katniss and Peeta they have to explore other characters and I liked exploring the politics it definitely wasn’t boring to me.

Man now that i think about it there are so many great franchises who couldve been smth. Such as this and star wars, planet of the apes ec cetera. Imagine the planet of the apes movies with the same caesar as in episode 1 now im not saying the movies sucked, however i am saying but they couldve BEEN SO MUCH MORE, and i couldve actually been a very big fan of both these franchises (well i already am of rotpota) if they played their cards right instead of just being only a fan of marvel and occasionally dc whenever a new batman related movie/show comes out but thats about it.. i rly want something fresh, like these movies to enjoy as much i enjoyed Logan or Deadpool 1 and guardians 3

I think every single movie ranges from good to masterpiece. Catching fire is clearly the masterpiece movie. It's near flawless. All the others have flaws but it's a coherent story told throughout and very engaging story and themes. Splitting Ballad would have been annoying because the story really gets elevated in chapter 3, chapter 1 and 2 was kind of just ur generic hunger games but focused on the Coaches instead of contestants. I didn't feel like chapter 3 was rushed

Unpopular opinion, but I actually really enjoyed mockingjay part 1. You are absolutely correct that it focused a lot on the political aspect of it all and resembled a political drama maybe more than an action movie. I fully understand people are going to be disappointed if they don't get what they thought they signed up for but I loved it. My ranking: 1. Catching Fire 2. The Hunger Games 3. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes 4. Mockingjay part 1 5. Mockingjay part 2

I don’t feel that splitting Songbirds and Snakes into 2 parts would have worked. The second half is too weak to be a stand alone movie in my opinion. I do agree with a lot of your points though 😊. I've read the 3 first books and I think the movies did a decent job adapting them. Of course it's a little weird with the separation of the last book. I watched the new one and for the most part I liked it, although the third part is a little out of place (I'm currently readingthe 4th book)

*Never read the books* 1)Catching Fire 2)MockingJay part 2 3) The Hunger Games 4) Mockinf Jay part 1 5) Songbirds & Snakes There is large gap between 4 and 5 in my opinion, I actually loved the first 4 movies, the newest one is a serious let down. It still was entertaining but not great like the others. I wish Snow would have killed Lucy in the cabin. The second she admitted that she is the last loose end and she could still tell on him. He knew she had to die and I wish he would killed her then and truly would have made him evil, and killing one of the only 2 people he loved

I've read all the books, and I think the films (especially the first one) were fairly accurate. I've had an interesting relationship with these films, as while I enjoy the story and the world, I dislike Katniss as the lead (any other character, especially Cato, I'd have preferred), and always found Jennifer Lawrence's kind of boring in the role, I feel Isabelle Furman (Clove) was exactly what I pictured when I read the books, and would have been a better casting. Also, Mockingjay is an awful book and two films and Snow was a more interesting protagonist in BOSAS.
