Jon Jones is one of the most gifted and talented athletes in the world. In his prime, he was like no other. Although, he had lots of legal trouble outside of the cage, he is still one of the best fighters of all time. There will never be another Jon Jones.

When he choked Machida out standing up, that's one of the most iconic victories I've ever seen. I've never seen it done like that and Jones did it to The Dragon. Being 3" taller helped a bit.

You can see the difference between young Jon taking chances, forcing his pace on opponents and really explosive and older jon finding his spots and very tactical. My favorite fight here is probably the thiago santos fight because it was an elite display of jon's kickboxing and mauy thai. He's like if Izzy has better defense, employed more elbows, knees, teep kicks and oblique/side kicks. Jon doesn't have the back dexterity to do the pull back like izzy but he understands range very well he knows where he's in danger and when he can coast

Santos' performance with no knees was way more impressive and inspiring than anything Jones did in that fight, that was one of Jones' worst performances. Santos' performance made him a fan favorite, Jones' performance made some question whether he's really that guy anymore, and whether he wasn't on the juice (i.e. cheating).

Man if Santos didn’t lose his entire base w not one but both his knees blowing out like that I think he could’ve def beat him by stoppage in that fight. Would’ve had a solid chance anyway. Crazy he fought on those broken stilts like that. That’s gotta be one of the gutsiest performances of all time. How he wasn’t in excruciating pain w all those ligaments and tendons torn in both knees is crazy. Had to be perfect center tears somehow.

The only thing I wanna see more of from Jonny is his boxing. He throws amazing kicks, knees, and elbows. His wrestling is obviously elite. I just wanna see more with his hands. He’s got the longest reach ever. If he threw more combinations, and really extended his punches, he could be putting people to sleep.

@Muyanzi Reid that’s an incredible stat, really puts into perspective the way he freezes people with his timing and there’s also something to be said for the intimidation factor. If you watch the Lionheart fight, Johnson looked overwhelmed and couldn’t even figure out *how* to touch jon.

From Smith on the ops started doing better not allowing bones to dominate the sequences he usually does to win a round. Jones does a lot of things he did in his first title fight, to do it for that many years is impressive. Its when Thiago started to get his aggressive air punches and good kicks in that gave him extra time .. Reyes was able to use that time to punch kick defend wrestling attempts from jones while looking confident doing it. Im glad jones went to heavywieght I hope he does great. If someone were to beat jones at lightweight jiri would be crazy enough to try.. he wouldn't try to win 5 rounds he would try to figure out live how to knock him out while sacrificing himself like jones did vs rua a flying knee ? Spinning shit

It'll be interesting to see if or how his striking has changed in the last 3 years. I have a feeling he's been working on a lot of boxing and trying to improve his punching power to be able to compete with the big boys. Will we see a new improved HW beast JJ or a plus sized rusty old bones jones?

These are the kinds of compilations i thought would never get made due to copyright, the UFC's tight control on their content stymies the sport's ability to showcase it's best moments.

UFC lost a series of court battles on content, trademark & copyright👌 what they were trying to do(like you were saying) was actually illegal but only bcuz of the way the UFC was doing it…so that is not true anymore, ufc actually these days have very little control of what is shown and can be used independently👌🎯💯

After a while these compilations become beneficial to the UFC. Next Monday you ain't finding a good quality video anywhere of the Gane fight but in 2025 when you watch a video like this with highlights of the fight you're gonna think "Ah I wanna watch that fight again in full". You'll run off to the UFC official KZbin channel or whatever broadcaster put the fight out and watch that shit again. They ease up on the copyright stuff as time moves on, although I'm sure they'd want KZbin to pull ads from anything like this that's for sure

Seeing prime Jones versus guys like Machida, Evans, Vitor and even a previously HW Cormier really reminds you what a massive advantage he had in size. Still insanely impressive nonetheless, but nearly every opponent he faced his own size, he controversially won like versus Gus and Reyes, or had very mediocre fights like when he fought OSP and Anthony Smith.

Peak Jones was so complete, athletic, and cerebral. He has become an even more thoughtful fighter, but when he was at his athletic peak he appeared unbeatable. Silva, Fedor, Khabib, and Aldo had it as well, but none had the unbelievable athleticism; DJ might be the only guy to look as unbeatable as well as being so athletically gifted. Also that Gus fight was his greatest battle, Reyes was also really great, but got'damn that Gus fight was good.

I hate jones more than anyone, but damn the man is ruthless. Watching him drop machida's lifeless body like that always gave me chills lmao. An absolute killer.

Jon Jones is probably the most creative fighter in the UFC, ever. Not just creative striking, but creative clinch work, transitions, everything. It will be a long time before another Jon Jones graces the sport.

@LJ Powell no that’s the narrative u bought because francis pissed off the company ... Jon turned that fight down twice that’s a fact.. after he fought Reyes he was offered francis and Jon said nope need more money .. which I understood that one a little bit why chance getting knocked out when it wasn’t for the belt that time but after francis demolished stipe Jon Jones said I’m in show me the money 💰 and Dana said he was scared trying to get him to fight and Jon refused a bigger payday than he fought gane for by quite a bit ... He said he wanted Conor mcgregor money and he knew the ufc wasn’t payin anybody Conor mcgregor money but Conor mcgregor .. it was a way for him to save face... and not just admit he was scared 💯 then he lifted weights for 3 years to gain 18 lbs l🤷‍♂️🙄 he has been big enough to fight heavyweights for a long time... he just wanted no part of francis so he waited some more and the ufc got sick of his games and signed gane to fight francis and francis beat up the Frenchmen with one leg with wrestling and he’s like an ok wrestler lol .. but it was still a one sided route ... and Jon knew francis might not resign because of money and the ufc is so stubborn on negotiating.. Jon even publicly supported him in tweets but then When the negotiations fell through and Jon knew for a cold hard fact francis was outta the ufc for good he changed his tune and said francis is afraid to fight me🙄🤬🤬 latest reason I can’t stand that fake ass lyin ass cheating ass wife beating bully... it was a coward move.. if he said that while francis was negotiating he mighta signed a one fight deal just to beat Jon’s ass.. but no Jon waited him out then ran his mouth like a B when someone is walking away and they turn around and say huh and Jon says nothing I wasn’t talking to u francis until the gates closed and locked and then acts sooo tough 🤣 he waited almost 15 years to move up to heavyweight and when he did it was the absolute perfect matchup for him a guy that can’t wrestle at all that’s never been a true champion .. with ok power not one punch fight changing nuclear bombs like francis .. you see Jon is a better overall mixed martial artist than francis but he knows he could be dominating for 4 rounds 4 minutes and 55 seconds and boom one shot and Jonny boy is flat on his back knocked the fuck out in front of The Whole world and that’s why HEEE DUCKED FRANCIS MY FRIEND THATS HIS BIGGEST FEAR IN LIFE AND HE KNOWS THE AFRICAN IVAN DRAGO IS THE MAN THAT MOST LIKELY WOULDA DID THAT TO HIM💯💯💯💯💯

I remembered watching the Jones vs Rampage fight live and after the end of the round 3 or 4 when Jon dove under and shot through the middle then lifted Rampage like a dummy bag, that he was going to be a problem...

I love boxing and its actually very enjoyable having a Spa with your mates. Landing hits feels super good and taking hits also gives you a good feeling. But man... these elbows are killer .. I practice them and I'd use them if I needed to, but they are so damn dangerous.

I’m glad someone pointed this out. That specifically stuck out to me in this video as well. It seems like Jones is on some psychopath shit upstairs lol It’s like he has the mindset of wanting to and not just only the skills to do damage in there. Made him an absolute killer in the cage yet in the outside world didn’t seem to mend so well.
