Shout out to the NC movie scene. There is a deep history of movie making in NC even before the tax breaks brought in Hollywood and losing that tax break sent those studios to Georgia.

Just a quick note: Kino is rereleasing "The Challenge" "Enter The Ninja" etc... the original discs were bd25 a single layer 25gb. --- The new releases have the awesome slipcovers and they are bd50 which is dual layer 50gb discs. So the quality should be far better.

I’m happy American Ninja 1&2 got a release! I’m also happy Enter The Ninja got a re-release because I did miss out on it the first time. When releasing something a second time it must benefit the company so why not also put a slip cover on it for the extra little bonus. It’s not bad to re-release movie except when companies just keep releasing the same titles over and over like Shout Factory with their 4K releases. I love the impressions too! Especially Tony Curtis!

Thanks for filling us in on this month's new offerings from KL. The one that I most look forward to purchasing is the documentary re Allen Ginsberg. I attended several readings by the poet, at various sites around San Francisco, back in the 60's, when people who earned less than $250,000/year could afford to live, and party, in The City. I was also fortunate enough in be in the audience at one of William Burroughs' readings, held a block away from where Carol Doda was earning a living at the Condor Club. One could also find Ginsberg or Burroughs, from time to time, at the City Lights Book Store, a gathering place for the greatest poets and writers of the 50's and 60's, and located, nearby, in the same neighborhood, between Chinatown and North Beach. I expect the documentary will evince even more memories from my 75 year old brain.

Great video Heath. I'm kind of surprised by the DVD only releases. Whenever I buy a DVD in this day and age I feel like I'm buying a floppy disc. It's continued existence for new releases baffles me especially for those titles aimed at collectors. Unfortunately my tv upscaling of 480p to 4k looks like garbage, so I resist buying DVDs unless I can't get the title in any other format.

I direcred a 16mm film and edited it on a flatbed....its still film so its better than other mediums, but 100% it's lower resolution like you said. 4K scans of 16mm dont make sense. Love the Monty reference that is still one of the funniest sketches ever!

If you have the Second Sight release of Cujo, you're not getting anything new here in terms of special features. Likewise, Red Dragon just ports over all of the same lackluster (IMO) promotional features as the previous in-house Universal blu-ray release. If you have either of those previous releases, you're basically just buying these for the 4K discs if that's something that you really care about.

Always enjoy seeing what's new. Usually never heard of most of the titles. I am a big fan of the American Ninja movies, but after sleeving 200 movies, I've cut way back on buying. I'll stick with my DVDs

Actually, Two Small Bodies is really restrained in its sensuality, surprisingly enough. Basically just a cool two-hander similar to Oleanna. (Bought the VHS a few months ago, lol, and just got the blu yesterday.) Scope it out, Heath! :)

My only complaint about Bava’s Black Sabbath was Kino didn’t include the Italian cut. Arrow has both cuts but it is a Region B. This is still a great release though.

Such an eclectic collection of titles. Speaking of cult titles...really looking forward to Mr. Holland's review of the forthcoming Arrow Video edition of the critically acclaimed "Day of the Locust." Out in December.

Lots of great releases this month. I plan on getting that Red Dragon at some point since I have the Kino Silence and Hannibal releases. Missing the Hannibal slip unfortunately. The American Ninja movies seem up my alley. I may have to try to give them a watch.

Yeah weird how Spottiswood could do the comedy "Best of Times" then a Bond film, but also did the solid slasher "Terror Train" earlier too. Like a Bob Clark renaissance man haha 👍

Spottiswoode learned his craft as Sam Peckinpah's editor. He also edited Walter Hill's classic HARD TIMES and directed an HBO film about Hiroshima which was also quite good.

I hope you can help me. I have an A90J 65" an A90J 55" and just purchased an A95L 77" . Everyone of you experts FOMO HDTV and alike all say Dolby Vision Dark is what the direct intended. If that is true they all have dark depressing personalities. Playing movies in Dolby Dark or Dolby bright is so depressing they are unwatchable. The most unwatchable movies in those formats and that includes Sony's new professional that replaced custom are the movies that have been transferred to 4K from film like Jerry Lewis Nutty Professor and Elvis in Blue Hawaii. These pictures look like the director intended when watched in Dolby Vivid. Can you share some "light" on this for me?

If I understand you correctly, you're asking about settings that won't make the. movie look too dark? 4Ks are often darker than Blu-ray versions, which were brightened deliberately to make the image pop. I say find a setting on your new TV that works best for you and don't worry about "director's intention." It's your collection and it's your setup, so find a display setting that makes you happy.
