What's really nice about these levels is that the creator didn't just add the condition, but also designed it in such a way, like the yoshi level, so it would still be unique and fun, and not just so easy you can just run through it.

I think the creator realized similar super worlds had a difficulty curve issue, so he decided to post the levels separately and see their clear rates, to then order them accordingly.

Stacking Hammer Bros on Bowser is how creators have tried to recreate the Final Bowser from Super Mario Bros ever since back in Mario Maker 1. Usually they also put a Spiny or Spike Top on top so the stack can't be jumped on. I wish Nintendo would put the Hammer Suit in a future installment of Mario Maker, and let players combine enemies with power-ups to produce variants as well. Not all mind you, but just to get things like Fire Bros by combining a Hammer Bro with a Fire Flower, or getting Bowser from 6-4 and 7-4 by combining Bowser with the proposed Hammer Suit. Then players could make a more faithful recreation of the 8-4 Bowser by putting a Bowser with hammers on top of a Giant Bowser.

I concur. The whole philosophy of troll level design seems to be, "let's just lie to the player." And since when is someone legitimately lying to you fun? It goes against everything I've ever learned about game design. Where's the appeal?

The troll creator knows you're going to win and you know you're going to die so it's not like there's a defined winner or loser but it's a game of bluffs and misdirection. Obviously they're not for everyone but that's my thoughts

​@@theblackwidoweri believe that game design is not a one-size-fits-all ordeal. people have fun in a lot of different ways, and the appeal of a troll level can come from the same origins of the appeal of a magic trick, for example: imagining how many ways you can surprise someone who is already expecting surprises. it's also very interesting from a psychological standpoint - how far ahead can a troll maker think to ensure that any possibilities are covered and do the opposite of what you would expect of them. if you're on board with the jokes, which is usually the case with dave, there's no harm done and it's proof that you can find value in very different design philosophies.

I remember when this first came out, I tried to make a few levels that would fit in alongside official levels - attention to detail with things like coins and background elements, power ups that were helpful but not needed, jumps with an extra tile or two of breathing room, the works. I was very disappointed to find that those levels ended up having around a 10% clear rate - clearly, I had made them too hard. But right at the start of this video, seeing that plain ol' vanilla 1-3 had about a 1/3 clear rate? Now I know it wasn't my fault, I didn't make the levels too hard, just 90% of the people who play Mario Maker are bad at it. I feel much better now

This, along with 1-1 and 1-2 Worlds, inspired me to create an entire Super World based around SMB3’s 1-1. I have world 1 finished, with SMB3 1-1 but it’s unchanged SMB3 1-1 but Mario has heelys SMB3 1-1 but there’s water SMB3 1-1 but it’s reversed SMB3 1-1 but it’s an autoscroll and world 2’s 5 levels’ ideas complete, SMB3 1-1 but it’s poisonous SMB3 1-1 but you’re a swordsman SMB3 1-1 but only half is there SMB3 1-1 but mushrooms attack SMB3 1-1 but it’s a meteor shower I plan for 6-8 worlds, and will release it as a world once World 3 is finished

I think there are two major factors as to why 1-3 isn't as iconic as 1-1 and 1-2. The first factor is that 1-1 and 1-2 can still "feel" nearly the same as the original game's even though Maker's SMB1 physics isn't even close to the same as the original NES SMB's physics, while 1-3 has a lot of distinct jankiness on jumping (especially rebounding off of the flying Koopa Paratroopas) and momentum in the original NES version that the Maker version of the physics doesn't have so the "feel" of the original isn't there, for better or worse. The second factor is that the majority of SMB1 players usually warp at 1-2 after discovering the secret, so 1-3 isn't played nearly as often as even a level like 2-1 or 3-1.

Each level from Super Mario Bros could be its own game, so taking 8 worlds with 4 levels each would give 32 games worth of content in one game. If each level has 32 remakes, that would mean there are 1024 levels total! Might take a while to put together, but that would be so fun :)
