@Some Boi Online 29:54 The Star theme actually might have a different origin. As the theme goes on, like when Mario first got attacked by a hammer thrown by a Sledge Bro while in Star form, the star theme actually sounds like the version from Mario Kart DS. The movie version is more slowed down but it sounds exactly like the one from Mario Kart DS. Hopefully you listen to the Mario Kart DS version and see the similarities

The rendition of the Peach’s Castle theme from the movie genuinely makes me feel emotional. It would be AMAZING if Nintendo ever had a theme park with Peach’s Castle as a main focus. Yes I noticed that the main Mario Bros that was played on a home system was released in 1985, the same year I need a Hero and Take On Me were big in the charts. I wonder if they were listening to this music at the point of creation and thereby had a warm spot for both songs, some deeper intention into the inclusion of these 2 songs.

Oh I see now, Aha Take on Me was #1 when NES was launched in the U.S. according to Nintendo News. Deep. I loved it. Every note of music in this movie had purpose. 26:30 interestingly, while the wedding theme uses the ending theme from Super Mario Bros as its melody, it's played in a rhythm and orchestral style similar to that of Pachelbel's "Canon", which is very appropriate as that classical piece is always used at weddings, to the point where it's synonymous with them in films Fantastic video overall man, the amount of time it probably took to get all the info and present it in such a clean way must've been enormous, props to you and hopefully at least one of the composers involved manages to see this awesome homage to their work, but in the meantime keep up the great work! 👏👏👏

Upon going in to watch this movie, I felt kind of bad that I might not be able to connect with this movie. It had been ages since I played any Nintendo games since I was much younger, and I basically made myself to 'Grow out of it'. But I managed to surprise myself that when the first music reference came on, I instantly picked up what it was. Then the next reference. Than the other. Each time I heard such a familiar sound, I got more emotional. Felt tears in my eyes. Guess I'm still a fan enough after all! And even if you didn't get the music references, just the style alone resonates Nostalgia of orchestral sounds I could easily hear from much older movies. The composer managed to really bring alive the cute, fun, beautiful and poignant aspects of the series. But also making theatrical epic sounds when in time of urgency and danger. All something we've experienced through past games.

Within the Athletic Theme medley in Fighting Tooth and Veil, the P-Speed sound effect from SMB3 can faintly be heard before the main athletic theme of the game plays, extremely fitting considering the Tanooki Suit needs P-Speed in order to fly. An additional SMB3 reference is within the Starman theme, specifically the Boss Clear jingle from Fortresses, albeit very brief and hard to notice. Bowser's laugh from SM64 is also within An Indecent Proposal. I'll provide timestamps at a later date.

Man the soundtrack is easily the best part of the movie, I got misty eyed and almost cried hearing the music especially Gusty Garden and the Airship music. The Sonic movies need to take note from this movies soundtrack by integrating their classic games themes in there as well. Also this movie has an obsession with Deep Dark Galaxy and I love it

As for the "Practice Makes Perfect" track, the melody is a slow Wing Cap theme from Super Mario 64. Funny enough the Luma theme works perfectly with it! xD

I've just sped it up and can sort of hear that, though I do think it's Luma first and foremost as it fits too well.

A couple I noticed that were not included in the video (I don't think these are stretches): -"The King of the Koopas" features a rendition of the Starman theme that dramatically plays as Bowser first obtains it, about 3:17-3:23 -Multiple pieces throughout the soundtrack use the "Tower"/"Fortress" theme from New Super Mario Bros. Wii and U, most notably in "Super Mario Bros. Opus" at 4:39-4:52 and "Fighting Tooth and Veil" at 1:11-1:16
@SomeBoiOnline
@SomeBoiOnline Жыл бұрын
You know, I had all the instances of the "Tower" theme noted down as it sounded familiar, couldn't for the life of me remember where it was from, so marked it down as an original theme. But you're right, it's absolutely from NSMBW. Somehow missed that version of Starman too. Well, I'm a tiny bit devastated they're not in the video, but thanks so much for pointing them out! I suppose the best thing to do would be to make a pinned comment with any additional findings.
@DaNintendude
@DaNintendude Жыл бұрын
One song, or _jingle_ that was missed, was the 1-UP jingle, which is arranged in Fighting Tooth and Veil, at 2:53. Also, at 3:29 in the same song, the bassline of Jungle Japes from DK64 plays. The NSMBWii Tower Theme is an interesting case because I think it's what Brian Tyler used as Bowser's leitmotif in the film. It's super similar to the NSMBWii Tower theme, but it's slightly different and never goes beyond those same notes. But it seems like it's always associated with Bowser, from what I remember.
@SomeBoiOnline
@SomeBoiOnline Жыл бұрын
I didn't want to go down the "sound effects" rabbit hole as there's so many of them, though the 1-UP jingle is actually integrated into the score here, so I'll make an exception. Good catch with Jungle Japes! I can definitely hear that now and it sounds distinguished enough from DK Island Swing. But yeah that's what threw me off with the tower theme, it does seem to be used as Bowser's theme in the movie, so I thought it must've been original - though now I feel it's too similar to be a coincidence.

I was pointed here for the Indecent Proposal / Luma connection, and stayed to see if anything new would come up. I had not heard SMB Castle in Darklands, Underwater in Practice Makes Perfect, or The Odyssey's First Takeoff- I find all to be stretches, but it's entertaining to see how much there is to hear!
@SomeBoiOnline
@SomeBoiOnline Жыл бұрын
Glad it was entertaining! For SMB Castle, if you speed the original up you pretty much get the movie version. Underwater I'm pretty sure are those first three notes. As for the Odyssey's Takeoff, I heard the similarity right away but brushed it off as a coincidence; though after seeing the other stuff Brian has snuck in, I'm leaning towards it being intentional.
@NicD
@NicD Жыл бұрын
Castle in particular I wondered about, so I slowed down the movie track, and it's a 4-note ostinato rather than SMB's 8 notes. And yeah those are three notes from Underwater, but the melody then does elsewhere - it's a pretty routine 3-note sequence, I feel it needs more support. But knowing Brian Tyler... I can't dismiss them entirely.

This is how I had hoped Legendary would use some of the original scores in the old Toho Godzilla films for the Monsterverse. We only ended up getting Godzilla and Mothra's main themes from film composer Akira Ifukube to be recomposed. No original toho tracks were recomposed for Godzilla vs Kong. But, I do hope some show up again for the next monsterverse film which was just announced. I am very happy to see that the game's original scores were used for the Mario movie, Iconic themes are very important to characters like Mario and Luigi as they are to Godzilla and Mothra.

All i wanted from this movie musically was Star man (which I knew we'd get), dk rap (which I thought was a wild shot, so was not super expecting it), the super show theme (which I thought we'd probably get (knew there was a plumbing commercial but didnt want to spoil myself with it), and the airship theme. Honestly, though, all i really wanted was airship theme. I thought about the airship theme constantly, hoping against hope it would make it in the movie. So when it was like one of the very first themes in the movie? I actually never reacted so hard in the movie theater before. I was so happy I almost cried.
