SPOILER ALERT Yeah his backstory is so heartbreaking. His family was clearly so abusive they gave Mary Lou Barebone a run for her money, never mind the Dursleys. They not only crucio’d him as a kid for refusing to join them in committing a hate crime against some muggle, but they used the threat of doing so again to force him to actually crucio another muggle later, an action that has traumatized him even more. When I reached the part where Sebastian tells us all this, it made me wish we could hit f on Ominis’ NPC to hug him.

Aww, It's so sad because Sebastian had so much going for him and then he just gave in to his uncontrollable emotions and got so easily corrupt trying to find a cure. They display Ominis as the irrational 'jerk' at the start of the game and Sebastian as that charismatic loyal friend (which he was/is), but then at the end of everything their roles are completely reversed. Ominis was who we deserved and the one who was looking out for both of us in the end. So sweet. Even after all that, I still really like Sebastian because of how he left a first impression. 😥

I find Ominis so endearing as a character, and I also find it fascinating how he might be related to Voldemort within the Harry Potter universe. The hp books tell us a bit about the Gaunt family, which is where Voldemort inherited his magic ability from since his dad is a muggle. When Voldemort is born is only about 35ish years after the events of Hogwarts Legacy, and by then the only Gaunts left are Voldemort's mother Merope and her brother Morfin and father Marvolo. But by that point in the timeline Ominis who's born in 1874 should be about 50 years old, so the fact that there's only three Gaunts left then means that Ominis and his family died young, or perhaps some calamity happened that wiped out all the Gaunts except for Marvolo. Which is honestly kind of tragic, poor Ominis deserved to live a long and happy life lol. Though it also seems fitting for a character like Ominis to die young, who knows what sort of trouble he may have run into with his messed up family after his time at Hogwarts...It's an interesting snippet of story that we can imagine. My headcanon is that one of the mentioned older siblings of Ominis is in fact Marvolo Gaunt (the cruelty towards muggles and the arrogance would check out) who ended up being the only surviving male line of the Gaunts, since it's mentioned that the Gaunts were a dwindling house by that point who had lost their old money, and the surname died out for good after Voldemort killed his uncle Morfin. The age is pretty much right, since Marvolo had Merope in 1907 and at that point Ominis' siblings would be in their thirties or forties. So in this headcanon Ominis would've graduated from Hogwarts, never had children of his own (Who can blame him? Poor dude is so traumatised and he knows his bloodline is inbred and messed up...) and then ended up somewhere in life where he died young...maybe he got into deep trouble trying to help a friend again, like he did with Sebastian...or if we're thinking a bit darker, maybe going against his own family led him into conflict which resulted in his death. Though, my preferred idea is that Ominis eventually ended up disowning his shitty family (and they him) and wandered off being a hermit somewhere, living a long and peaceful life, until no-one in the Hogwarts circle knows he's still alive (even Dumbledore doesn't know) but he doesn't care, he's happier that way.

Thanks for this video. Gotta love the little smirk he gives when the other students are like "I think I heard one!" You did miss one hallway dialogue though. Oh my god. I just realized. The feeling that I had to push my self to like Sebastian cuz everyone else did, (I mean he's cute but carries too much emotional baggage) felt kinda off and I felt sad for not liking him as much as everyone else did. But turns out, OMINIS is soooo much better than Sebastian like my heart is literally fluttering omg I never knew he could be this kind? I thought he was all viper like when we all first stumbled unto him outside the Undercroft. Such an unpleasant interaction and that really shaped my 1st and lasting impression on Ominis... until this video came along.

Considering how the sorting works, it's remarkable how he wasn't put into Gryffindor, as Peter needed to find courage in order to reach the potential that he ultimately failed to reach by not finding that courage, and was sorted in that house for that very reason.
