No, it’s only illegal if you are doing it fraudulently. (For example, trying to change the value of the coin) Crushing a coin for a souvenir is completely legal.

It actually has a label on a lot of penny pressers that states it is illegal to destroy/modify currency you intend to continue using. As long as you don't try and use the pressed penny as legal tender then it's fine. Been collecting for 2 decades now 😅
