I always advocate hand redistribution to make things easier, especially if the music won’t be affected. We have to work smart, not just work hard sometimes.

Ayy I’m super happy to see one of the Legends stumbling across my crappy video haha. “…if the music won’t be affected”. Perfectly well said. My simple mind couldn’t possibly thought of that fingering and resorted to believing Animenz’s fingering as standard (which is normally only for super duper big-handed guys…) And btw if you’re truly the original one who came up with that fingering then I wanna say Thank You especially to You for helping me feel like being Animenz for mere seconds 🗿🗿🗿

And I’m surpised that my video actually reached you! 🤣 thanks for watching. I was very happy to see a very few people (such as you) who performed that swap hands at that Wall!

This is so cool! I love how you turned all your research into a video; I really enjoyed the comparisons. It's worth noting that both Mason and Aliblame have modified their recordings to remove/fix wrong notes via MIDI editing (pretty obvious when you watch in slow motion) - they're super talented piansts and I doubt I'll ever be as good as them, but it's important to know that what you hear isn't exactly what they played. MIDI editing is super commonplace all over youtube and I even do a bit of it myself; I point it out here because you're comparing against pianists who played on acoustic pianos and could not fix their performances in the same way
@notalentpiano Жыл бұрын
Oh really they editted ?? Damn now that’s another story. No wonder why I thought how could they play it so clear and clean.

@2mimi834 As much as I enjoyed TheIshter, he was a salt machine before he just disappeared. All he did was talk down on people and say everything everyone did was fake, or they shouldn't be doing :/
@boredPianoAdv Жыл бұрын
@@leonardsmith9870 iirc Ishter condones MIDI editing (in his discord he said that it was the norm and that only purists take issue) so idk if he was calling out Animenz (probably the other way around if I remember his discord message correctly) Anyhow while Animenz does midi edit, he only started doing so in 2020 so his unravel is 100% accurate to what he played
@boredPianoAdv Жыл бұрын
@2mimi834 Thanks for telling me about the NieR edit - I didn't know about that before and will be looking into it. I'm worried your view of Ishter is quite narrow - he's never come off like that to me in the livestreams and videos i've watched of him. Do you mean he was lying in the video where he defended pan piano? I haven't watched him a lot so if you have specific examples of him saying these things (like how you had a specific example of animenz editing with the nier video) that would help a lot
@boredPianoAdv Жыл бұрын
@2mimi834 also, to clarify, that's not MIDI editing at 5:39 in the nier video, because it's an acoustic recording and that steinway had no MIDI playback/recording system; it's an alternate audio take spliced in because the sync of the audio and video gets worse briefly for that section (and the stereo perspective of the microphones is different and more off-center) and then gets back in sync again after the edit

I also do the hand swap on the downward arpeggio, but for the "thumb wall" I just alter the piece in a similar way to how animenz has done in live concerts before. The first "wall" with the double octave jumps is still hard but in its own way. You can get past it by just retrying and re-recording from the beginning until you get it right. The other walls require a technical skill that cannot exactly be cheesed in the same way.

I also attempted the walls. Personally, I think the thumb wall is harder to play, but I found the thumb fingering 11 11 121 121 to be much easier than 11 11 111 111. I also remember Animenz recommended to use all thumbs in a fans meet up. For the fastest wall, I feel llike it's the easiest. The first wall, big jumps, is pure muscle memory. It's easy to hit wrong notes but not that hard to cultivate this muscle memory.
