Nashe is an independent artist btw. she had the song of the summer and promoted her upcoming album everywhere online. the fact that she even charted at all is amazing for her, who funds everything from her own pocket, where everyone you mentioned is signed to a label that funds their projects they are expected to chart, Indie artists dont care about that

Yes a label fund an artist project but....if they spent for example 500K on you, you will not touch a dime until they have gained back from your work all they spent on you. They expect to get refunded with gain profits. if an album flops and they spent a lot of money, they will spend way less money on your next project and expect to earn it all what they owed you for the previous era as well. Loss = they drop you

I loved C,XOXO because it felt like Camilas “F- it” moment. Just having fun and making this album more for herself with a vision that she wants despite knowing its probably not gonna do so well. I can respect that and I think that Godspeed is one of the best songs of 2024. I LUV IT honestly is so refreshing since it takes such a different sound than the slower, more down tempo beats on the charts, so I see why it wasnt commercially successful.

@@garypollard2192True, it’s not like people are buying music like that. Doja only made 6k off scarlet but the streams are there. Charts doesn’t define success especially because the charts are rigged and decided among corporates. This is known and continues to be proven daily. ROC Nation was caught last year for buying streams. I don’t listen to Tinashe because she chart but be a I genuinely love her music. Most number 1 songs are overhyped and never worth the listen everyone hyped it for. It’s good for artist to chart but it doesn’t determine if a song is good or not, as the charts is politics.

It’s been really hard for artists to have longevity these days. People rely on veteran artists. And now you see them flopping too. But looking at artists such as Halsey, chainsmokers, Ellie Goulding, Calvin Harris, Meghan trainor, Sam smith, etc. Most have already been fading out. Ariana, Billie, Harry styles, Travis Scott, post Malone, Nicki, and maybe a few others are the only ones that survived. Taylor, Drake, Miley, Beyonce, Eminem, etc. all came from late 90s-mid 2000s. So far we’ve gotten a lot of TikTok artists that end up one hit wonders. It’s pretty sad when album tracks outchart and last longer than them.

Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism is THE FLOP OF THE YEAR. We were all waiting for a great comeback from Dua after how monumental and incredible the Future Nostalgia era was, but that never came. The singles are good, but none of them managed to have the minimum of success, videos that were not at all memorable, a promotion that left a lot to be desired, a disastrous album cover that no one liked, an aesthetic that has no coherence with the sounds and the genres that the album touches on, there are songs on the album that could easily go in the trash such as “French Exit”, in general, and it can’t be that their song for the movie Barbie, “Dance The Night” has had more commercial success than the 3 singles from the album combined, if you ask me, a total disaster… Dua needs to quickly move on to her next musical era (just as Justin Bieber did with his album Changes, which no one liked and he quickly moved on to his next album Justice, which had great commercial success, won awards and was a great joy for the Justin’s life) if her don’t want the same thing to happen to her that happened to Katy Perry since 2017 with her album Witness, keep my words.

I see a lot of these albums being by artists who had gigantic hits in the past, but now with much longer careers. For some of them, it really seems that they're taking advantage of the shift in the music industry towards more ownership of their craft, and more creative freedom. That results in a lower than expected charting success, since now they're doing the music that they want, rather than the music that sells (think Zayn, Camilla Cabello). A lot of these artists are also gently moving towards the natural decrease of their career, with their fanbase becoming less hooked on music (Zayn, Camilla, Zara, Normani, Justin Timberlake), and their style naturally fading out of fashion (Sia, JLo, Jason Derulo). But if there is talent, a remarkable voice and a strong direction, the faithful fans will remain there.

See girls like Tori Kelly and JoJo have humongous talents but it’s a given they will « flop » because people have no ears but idk maybe their persona are not appealing to people because they are just so amazing as singers. I’m still hoping for JoJo successful return after broadway and I’m hoping for Christina Aguilera to come back stronger because it’s now or never. Idk where the ppl from early 2000s went but can’t they support their artists ?
