I had a Kia tech come to look at my 2019 GT2 due to continued interior fit and finish issues, but I also let him know I had problems with vibration when braking at higher speeds. Even back when my car was new (only had just over 100 miles on it) I would get the vibrations coming from the brakes when driving at highway speeds. I was told to just give it time, but it never went away. Ultimately one dealership I took it to resurfaced the rotors. They were fine for a few thousand miles, but had the same problem again. Another dealership resurfaced them again, and it again fixed the issue for the time being. When I brought this up to the Kia tech, he mentioned a few things to me about it that was good information. One, if the rotors and pads are below a certain mileage (I believe 15,000 miles if I remember correct), the dealership service departments are not supposed to resurface them -- for the Stinger specifically the dealerships are supposed to put new rotors on. He was quite angry when I mentioned that two different dealerships simply resurfaced the rotors. But he also told me the vibration issue stems from the fact that the stock brake pads for the Stinger in the US (maybe North America in general) are a harder material than the pads used in Europe. He said it is because Kia was afraid there would be too many complaints in the US about brake dust, so they used harder pads. The problem is that those pads leave deposits on the rotor, that cause the vibration that you're feeling. The solution - Stinger Euro spec pads. They are softer, and should not cause the issue. The downside is that they do cause more brake dust. As part of the work order he put in, he included four new rotors and Euro spec pads this time. Since then I've put about 6k miles on the car, and so far haven't had any issues (when I had the US pads I would have already started feeling the vibration at this point). So yes, there is noticeably more brake dust, but I'm fine with the tradeoff compared to having to deal with vibrations every few thousand miles and having to go get it taken care of.

Thanks for the info, I’m gonna be getting those new pads soon for sure. I think it’s worth the trade off of more brake dust.

Our 2019 had a warped rotor brake shimmy and I had the dealer replace all four (at their cost) after they acknowledged it was a known factory defect. I had a slight hatchback rattle like everyone and tried both the washer fix (didn't work) but reduced the noise by simply unscrewing the black dampeners a few threads and putting a black ziptie on the exposed threads to keep it from screwing back in over time. My inside finish on the door panel and console hasn't shown wear like yours - yet. We'll see what happens. The one feature I dislike is having to manually disengage the auto engine stop on the center console - but that's not a defect issue. Still - best car I've only in 58 years - absolutely love it.

2020 awd gt bought new 2 years ago with 5 miles on it. Has 13.5k on it now. No mechanical or maintenance issues at all. Just a couple fit/finish issues. I did have the trunk thunk or whatever they're calling it. Put some rubber grommets under the hatch guides, no problem since. The black chrome trim around the windows and rear hatch has some issues. The car took damage due to massive hail that came through. Some of the trim was replaced by the body shop, haven't had a problem with it since. The black chrome around the glass is a known issue. The brakes on my car are fine but changing out the pads should fix the issue. When I do the pads I'll go with an aftermarket pad. Car has been fantastic otherwise. I swapped in the 8" screen and nav from the gt2, put on AEM intakes, Eibach rear sway bar. Can now hear the turbos and the car handles much better

@@SammyBGarage everything thing for me is difficult so it would seem. Trying to swap in 2022 light bar, supposed to be easy, according to KZbin. Much harder than it appears. As far as the swap, you have to remove part of the dash and the center console to do the swap. You'll need a nav head unit, 8" screen and the base that the screen sits in. It's different than the base screen. It's all plug and play. There's a couple KZbin videos of how to remove the dash piece. It sucks but it's worth it imo. First, a small issue I have is my hatch also rattles, although it's more of a nails on chalkboard kinda rattle/ squeak, and it's intermittent, but it is so mf annoying. My panoramic sunroof also makes cracking/ rattling noises over bumps and stuff. The biggest and main issue(s) I've had are 1. Low compression at 30k miles in 2 cylinders like wtf, and a really rough idle/ big hesitation with the DCT pulling and shifting between 3k-4k rpms, basically my main powerband which sucks. It's cpo and has been at the dealer multiple times, for multiple months, and they gave up on it. It's so annoying man. Like I said I've owned 4 - an 05 Optima LX 2.7V6 which definitely was a pos but it just had bad quality, and 06 Sonata GLS 3.3V6 which was absolutely great I drove it for yeaars and sold it at 200k miles in great shape, and an 09 Spectra5 SX that was also awesome. While they make really good looking cars they obviously have quality control issues. Good luck with yours, it is a great looking car.

Struts are rattling. All u need is a circle of foam or something to put on the fat part of the strut. Make sure it reaches the paint on the side and bottom. solved

How many miles is on yours i recently picked up a used 2019 gt 1 awd with 65k miles on it , i put about 9k miles on it so far . I do have the issue with the hatch but the interior trim is still good no peeling or stripping. The rotors were replaced out before I got it I do need to replace the pads with ceramic im tired of all the brake dust. I do have a slight mis fire when it cold starts sometimes very slight but I haven’t had any check engine lights I plan on getting the HKS plugs and oil catch can soon. I just have injen intakes and muffler delete.
@SammyBGarage2 жыл бұрын
Mine only has like 20k miles on it. it’s weird how it started doing it so early on. The hks spark plugs are a must tho, they are kind of a bitch to install but worth.

How are your downshift had the car about a week 2019 with 50k on it and the downshifts seems to be really noticeable when coasting to a stop

@@SammyBGarage my down shifts seem crisp and normal when coasting to a stop but I still plan on getting my trans fluid change since the previous owner hasn’t it

I am sure is depending where is the car manufacturing from, I heard people said if the car is original manufacturer and shipping from Korea headquarters most people has no issuesed, if you got it from US facility base in Atlanta Georgia lol 😂 you will experiment the qualities different
@SammyBGarage2 жыл бұрын
That’s interesting, I didn’t even know they had a facility in Georgia, that makes sense that there would be more issues from a car made in that plant tho

Seems like the issues you are having are self inflicted, suspension makes car body stiffer, hit pothole with front tire, hatchback will rattle, no play, tires too thin, no air cushion, just my opinion
@SammyBGarage2 жыл бұрын
The rattle was happening long before I lowered the car, it’s a very common issue and Kia recognized it as a defect. My suspension didn’t help it but I was well aware of that going in.

Kia does give u bang for the buck wenncomes to looks comfort and performance/ride ..however quality is far from Mercedes like (Not even MB is Merces like nowadays tho)

Actually most of the of the faults seems to originate from the mods you have done

2k miles and engine needed to be replaced because of an engine manufacturing defect KIA knew full well about. It went in with 2k miles and when they returned the car back to me FIVE MONTHS later, it had over 4k miles on it. A guy told me privately employees were taking the car home with them on the weekends with their families. When I did get it back, it also had three deep tears in the passenger seat. Oh, they also kept some of the engine parts in my hatch for months as it sat in the dealerships roof parking lot in full sun. Found out they left a tool bag on the passenger side seat and when it was pulled out, tools tore the seat. Think they would take responsibility and fix it? F no! Nah, this was a brand new GT2 and clearly KIA has no quality control. It's not normal for cars to rattle like this, have sun roofs literally blow off the roof while driving, loose and bouncy trunks etc..If you're having problems, call KIA corporate offices in Irvine, CA and get a rep assigned to you. I found the President of KIA America's contact information in LinkedIn and called his office. I was immediately assigned a client service rep re the engine replacement. I also notified NHTSA and filed a formal complaint. They told me my engine replaced within five months was great, because others waited eight months. Prior to that the battery died. KIA corporate in Irvine, CA told me the batteries weren't manufactured properly to deal with the electronics parasitic drain. So, three batteries later I have to hook it up to a tender at least three days a week. KIA said that was the only resolution.
@SammyBGarage2 жыл бұрын
Jeez that sounds like a nightmare, couldn’t imagine dealing with such an incompetent service team, did they ever reimburse you for the torn seats or anything like that?

No issues with mine. Minor annoyance is a rattle I hear from the sunroof. A few things I would change if I could. 1. The dampers in comfort mode are still too firm. I would soften the dampers much more in comfort mode, let the car float a little but make the ride quality much better. 2. Get rid of that utterly ridiculous sport mode damper setting. You cannot drive that anywhere except on a perfect road like a track. The damper setting in comfort mode is what I would call sport mode. I would then significantly soften the dampers for a proper comfort mode. 3. Put some sound insulation in. There's no attention to sound dampening at all. Too much outside, suspension and tyre rumble. The Stinger needs some wheel well lining, boot lining and under floor panels. 4. The infotainment badly needs a controller. Touchscreen only is unsafe and awkward whilst driving. 5. Proper manual mode. It's ridiculous that a car of this performance doesn't have a dedicated, permanent manual mode. A Mazda 3 has manual mode for goodness sakes. Yes I know you can shift manually but it's not a permanent mode and goes back to auto on its own.
@SammyBGarage2 жыл бұрын
All great points, if you have the gt1 instead of 2 it comes with the shifter that you can put into manual mode, just doesn’t look as nice.

So basically, typical Kia interior rattle and you had to do a tune up? Sounds good to me.
