Love love LOVE all the colors. Fabric must have been a joy and chore. It was hard but at da! Totally worth it. I do grandmothers flower quilt all by hand. It’s worth it. My grandchildren have turned them into “looks quilts” hanging on the wall. Only because they all have pets.

My grandmother used to make cushion covers with yo yos. I remember them from my childhood in the 1960s . I never knew that was the name of them. You've inspired me!

My mother at about age 5, 1945, helped her grandmother make This “Push Pull” (yo-yo) quilt. The quilt was layered on top of a pale yellow or white chenille bedspread. I recall seeing this quilt on the bed in the guest room when I was 8 years old, last time I saw it, still there in the guest bedroom when I was 17, in 1977. (Edit) just recalled I took my daughter to meet her grt grt grandmother in 1978, yes it was still there! When you lift the quilt, the chenille bedspread had faded dots permanently sun faded on it. My great grandmother lived to be 99 yrs old, the quilt was still in the guest room, faded but still beautiful!

Your quilt inspired me to make a yo-yo quilt on memory of my mother who died of Alzheimer’s disease two years ago. It has been a very hard grief since we lived together almost 20 years, just the two of us, and I was her sole caregiver. Now I am alone, so I needed a project to channel my grief. I decided on a yo-yo quilt, using a base color of purple with other secondary colors-like the wallpaper in her bedroom. I selected small amounts of about 70 fabrics, many which reflect her life, her work, her faith, her interests, her likes, and her talents. I have saved a nice scrap from each fabric that I am going to include in a quilting journal that will explain how each fabric relates to her. I don’t want her to be forgotten when I am gone. My yo-yos are about three inches each, so I am not making 4,000 of them. I have made most of what I need, and I am now sewing them in blocks of nine that I will sewing into the final quilt. Thank you for sharing your story. This quilt is a genuine help with my grief. I wish I had started it sooner.

Incredible Denise !!!! You have accomplished this so go for the log cabin because after this you can do the log cabin with one eye closed and one hand tied behind your back. I would never have this kind of patience. Beautiful and thank you for sharing.

I love your quilt! It's so beautiful with the variety colors and organic way it came together. I personally KNOW that sewing, piecing, and quilting has truly helped me cope with depression and anxiety. It distracts my mind away from any negative or anxious thoughts which burden me and instead keeps me focused on what is right in front of me. It literally gives my body a physical break that nothing else does. God Bless ~~Christy~~

Denise, A beautiful quilt! .I have one from my mother (mind you,I am 80. You can imagine how old it is. Fabrics from ‘30’s and before. It is falling apart but you have inspired me to fix the yo-yo’s and re-attach them to each other. I wish you the best. Working at the Fabric Patch should be a blast!

Denise!! I love you and your quilt! I am excited to see you in Ephrata when I can get up there. You have always been creative in so many ways! I made a log cabin quilt 40 years ago for our nursery, and all of our 5 children used it in the crib. I will, however NEVER make a yo yo quilt! I Do not have your patience! I used crazy quilt purses as my depression cure, I am sad that we didn’t co tact each other during that time because we were both creating through our grief and depression. Great job Denise. Depression is a hard one to shake and is sometimes only managed. You found a creative outlet to give you joy and something tangible to remind you that you're valuable. I saw a play called "Quilts" that showed the many ways it plays in a woman's life and the development of our country. You'll enjoy the log cabin. I did.

Absolutely lovely and inspiring! I've got a bag of about 50 finished yo-yo's (100 more squares cut for more) that I've had for around 25 years. This vlog is giving me the push to go ahead and get them out and work on them. Mine make larger yo-yo's than these, I have difficulty working with very small pieces.

@@devonwoodward8133 we have Ancestry….my daughter in law got us the DNA kit….several years ago, and I found a couple of cousins, I didn’t know I had. It is pretty cool….Mom came from a large family, she was the baby, 5 of her brothers and my mom, were veterans…she passed away September 18th at the age of 97, the last of her immediate family…..it has been a rough couple of months ! And it has been a pleasure seeing your quilt ! Keep up the great work !
