THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.
PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.
CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?
VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?
IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "
ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10?

Old George's talk with Ben was so great. It is actually rare to see a show like this have people on both sides talk about what they have in common or can sympathize with. If you truly believe that, then you fail to grasp the true flaw of his character. He represents the best of what ben could be IF all of bens shortcomings rose to the surface. He exists to corrupt ben. Remember the final decision Villgax (the villain) tried to make ben make. That's the same decision George is trying to convince him of now. That his own sense of morality is the correct one. Keep in mind, Sir George ended up being the reason why the forever knights were created, and his lack of _"doing the right thing that you dont want to do"_ is strictly what lead to that and why the knights ended up becoming the bad guys. He is heroism when stoicism is left unchecked. A flaw that I am only now realizing as of writing this that I suffer from as well. Pure hubris.

I always had a theory that, on top of many theories that the Omnitrix is "alive", in a sense, so is Ascalon, and there's a "connection" between them in some way. Perhaps even using the same energy. Like, they never really went into detail what kind of energy is the Omnitrix using, so perhaps since it's powerful enough to wipe out a universe at maximum self destruct, it's powered by the same cosmic force as Ascalon, and therefore the sword is able to "command" the Omnitrix to stand down also i love how a friend of mine basically thought that Ascalon was a weapon created for destruction and used primarily to destroy the user'sfoes, while the Omnitrix was made for peace and is used to protect others, especially by someone like Ben so in a way, if used together (properly, unlike what happens in the UA finale), the user would essentially have a SWORD and a SHIELD, complimenting each other, as Ascalon's capacity to destroy is tempered by the Omnitrix's ability to save, a true balance between two of Azmuth's greatest creations!

In the story Driscoll reads about St. George and the Dragon it might not have been referring to Dagon at all but perhaps one of the lucubra. We see him spear head the giant Lucubra in a similar manner to some incarnations of the original take and they have mind powers too. Not to mention there shape would be more inclined to be misinterpreted as a Dragon than the giant octopus. It's quite possible who ever wrote the original story saw or heard of George killing the giant Lucubra and just assumed that was the final boss

I think the story is about Dagon since it mentions the heart thing, it’s just that over the centuries the story was embellished. The modern use of Mister actually stems from Master. Master being the use for a house leader. So a young master is a future leader of the home. This bleeds into the “Young man” phrase in more current times. But to refer to someone is in many ways paying respects to their capabilities both now and as the person they will mature into. It’s both accurate speaking and being friendly. That’s why I never questioned but I’m also a trivia machine so knowing these little things is in my nature

It could be that Azmuth created the omnitrix for Zenith and to help everyone grow closer to each other (because of his loss and the destruction he witnessed) but didn't want to tell Ben about her at first (that's why it's just the part about being closer to each other) , and later on, he discovered how the highbreed started to destroy planet after planet so he upgraded the omnitrix (beginning of Af) to store DNA to revive the species that got extinct through them. At the end of UAF, he built enough trust to Ben over the years to finally tell him about Zenith.

I know Ben technically isn’t a chosen one since the Omnitrix was initially meant for Max, but having George as his foil, someone else given Azmuth’s ultimate device, is so interesting to see. Both Ascalon and the Omni/Ultimatrix have seemingly limitless power but also provide completely different abilities. I’d bet Ascalon’s power is likely a factor in why Azmuth decided to include a time limit and a limited playlist for the Omnitrix in the first place
@omniverse7976
@omniverse7976 8 ай бұрын
That would make sense. He didn’t want anyone, even someone such as Max, having the ability to turn into any alien species they could think of. Ben uses his alien’s hero names to transform but max know individual species. If he knew of Celestial Sapians he could just turn into one.

Just a quick confirmation. Yes Master is used as a term for a male under 18. Here in the UK they refer to you as such when you get a credit card. I believe it's also why female characters are referred to as Young Miss or Mistress. But I could be wrong. So when George calls Ben, "Young Master" he's just doing it to refer to Ben being under aged. Where as if he was older (like let's say Ben 10K's age) He would likely refer to him as Mr. Tennyson or something instead.

12:23 Since the Omnitrix/Ultimatrix functions as a receiver of sorts for the DNA samples stored in the Condon Stream on Primus, it can be assumed that anything that could interfere with that signal/communication ability would cancel out Ben’s transformations. We get an example of this in Eunice’s second appearance when they’re dealing with a DNAlien infestation on Spidermonkey’s homeworld, when she mentions that her uplink to Primus is the source of the “Parallel Signal Interference” error message from the Ultimatrix.

06:52 considering we later learn that mana is multi-dimensional, it's not a stretch to assume that the magic seal is the same. In fact, that's probably why they decided mana works like that, to directly imply the seal worked like that, since it's supercharged with magic and therefore with mana.

This episode ended up making what Ben said in the first movie, not live action, about the initials on the watch his dad got his mom makes sense as to why that was a clue as to how to track Azmuth down. Since Azmuth hoped that Zenith would be the one who realizes who made the watch for the purpose of peace. But due to the power hungry beings in the universe which had sought out the Omnitrix thanks to the rumors about it, its clear she felt that her ex never changed. Never realizing his mistake. In fact, I believe that Zenith had moved on and gotten with someone else. Since with how long it had been since they had been together. I wouldn't be surprised that Zen had decided to live her life.

Zenith to me feels like the sort of basic character archetype you make for a “posthumous” character; they’re their for the sake of their function, which is to be a reminder of when things were better for the subject in question. Ben vs George was nothing but Talk no Jutsu. George just won the Talk no Jutsu battle, but Ben did prove himself enough for George to agree to a failsafe. On the non-zero percent change George fails, Ben gets the sword, and Ben does. That’s why the Talk no Jutsu battle between Ben and George is so important. It’s about communicating and understanding what’s being communicated. Even Azmuth understood that after Ben explained himself.

I wouldn't say it was "obvious" for me, but as a kid I was a fan of the Artemis Fowl books. Artemis is frequently referred to as Master Fowl, not just by his butler but by random business acquaintances and whatnot. In one book, he has a meeting with someone who just assumed they were meeting with an adult and was like "Where is Mister Fowl?" and Artemis corrects them like, "I am *Master* Fowl, and I'm the one you're meeting with." So I did figure it out long before UA.

@@Bertiboy Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you in this regard. The writers were clearly pulling a lot of direct inspiration from the legend of Saint George, including using Western-style, Roman Catholic imagery for his design. A 'historically' accurate depiction is Greek, and the Greek Orthodox art looks closer to what he would've actually looked like, considering his ethnicity and where he was born and raised (first Cappadocia in Asia Minor/modern Turkey, then Syria Palaestin/roughly modern Israel?). He's also a Christian martyr, killed during the reign of Diocletian, in both the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches, so if I had to guess the reason for his immortality, it was some sort of reward for his unshakeable faith in God.

6:32 so dimension walking is like using the nether to travel far distances in Minecraft, you enter the nether through a portal in the overworld, walk a little bit in the nether and then exit to the overworld again and find yourself in a different place. But here the distance must be the same here cause unlike Minecraft where 1 block in nether = 8 blocks in the overworld Gwen was able to see the esoterica walk on stairs in the dragon dimension in real time, so the two dimensions are right on top of each other with 1:1 distance ratio.
