How were you able to get the crank brothers chain tool off their multi-tool and onto the topeak mini 9?

You can take both tools apart at each end with a hex key. From that point on its just trial and error until the pieces have the correct thickness and fit together.

Why bring a tube (let alone two) when you have tubeless tyres? What does a tube fix that a tubeless repair kit won't? (and I would include a tube of special glue for bikepacking)

It could happen that a tire slice or puncture is too large for the tubeless repair kit to fix. In that case an inner tube is your best chance to get going again.
