Is that right? I thought that everyone who spoke on his time spent in the hospital following his death said that he produced it on an MPC. I could be completely wrong though. I probably should do my homework before speaking so definitively on something.

Good when it's not 20 second cut on a sample. I think it's a bit better if makes it harder to hear what it's from. Or your kind of just hearing a tune you already know and probably like it as its known and easy on your ear. But making samples that make it hard to tell where its from or not a long music part like has been done is better. Or you have sting getting another no 1 because of the sample used in the poofy, puff the dragon or whatever his name is. He used so much of the sample people related to original and sold much more and is too much to take and have new song! Many have took sample and used it as is without making it fit as it entire song! There's a point when a samples taken over the song and they sell as oh I know this. Some musicians take the piss. Dilla was original and made to do this. Shame died so young.

I love how J Dilla was able to bring out the emotions and mournfulness in the samples he used. How he gave subtle insights into his own mindset during his last few months. Even the track-listing gives insights to what was going through his mind, such as 'hi' and 'bye' or changing 'only one can win' to 'two can win', trying to change the inevitable. The creativity on Donuts is absolutely stunning but what truly makes it amazing is the emotional power of the record

James Thomas hell yeah...well said. I'm kinda ashamed to admit it, but I've only started getting into Dilla in like the past two months. KRS-ONE, Rakim, N.W.A., Public Enemy, BDK etc. were more my style. But now that I've had a chance to appreciate his work, it's quite clear that he was a very talented, creative, innovative artist. There won't be one quite like him in a million years.

Your videos are so well edited man, love the flow of your transitions from sample to song and back. The design of your vids is also so nice to look at as well. Makes watching these things in full rewarding. Don't let these bigger channels bully you, you deserve views more than them. Peace.

Donuts is so emotional to listen to. Feels like the ending of E.T for real as you keep moving toward the end of the album.

Very dope and creative vid put together for the G.O.A.T...its hard to believe that he made this masterpiece with an SP-303/ 45s and a record player. Considering the limitations of that machine, his ear for music was impeccable. The way he blended that array of music with the different sound bytes and loops.. amazes me til this day. R.I.P. Jay Dee
