Mechanically, the AK is quite simple, so simple that had been adopted into many others platforms from LMGs to snipers. And because writers can't have unlimited imagination, they take inspiration from our world. You can see peoples in 40k know our modern day famous quotes and books. The degisn of the AK is so prolific that you can even download it from the internet. With so many copies scattered across the globe, some are bound to survive into 40k. And it's totally logical for people in 40k to adopt the AK design. They hold ancient men knowledge in high regard, except for AI tech. And because the bolt rounds can be fired from any firearms just like normal bullets of the same caliber. In short, you can easily make an AK that fires bolt rounds, it's prolific so some copies of the design will make it to 40k. And because the mechanicus love ancient knowledge and the AK has proven itself to be a well designed weapons even in our time, they won't question the wisdom of techpriest Mikhail Kalashnikov. AK 40k shouldn't be something impossible to exist.

Nah it was charged across a field against a hundred of them. And considering how many Guardsmen there are it'd be more like a million guys shooting at just you. In hindsight, it's weird that Chaos Marines stand any chance at all against the Guard. Tanks are very effective against the Marines, so is artillery and heavy weapons. The Guard is basically a giant ocean of these things crashing upon your face.

Fun fact about the hellgun, expecially the pattern used by Krieg Grenadiers, is that the gun needs extreme amounts of maintenance, if not t can misfire or even explode, plus they dont put a bayonet cuz the heat itself from the hellgun firing would just melt said bayonet, so they pretty much just use the gun as a club for CQC.......did I mention the gun is fragile and can explode ?

I used to think autocannons were like machine guns. I mean, the 'auto' bit implies 'automatic', because it doesn't fire fucking cars, does it? I laboured under this belief until I played Dawn Of War, wherein I was given my first 'official' display of how an autocannon actually behaves. At least, after I worked out which bloody guns were causing which bloody explosions... the autocannons on the Predator tanks and Dreadnoughts appeared to fire high-explosive shells at a rate of about one every couple of seconds, if memory serves. So nothing like full auto. Also, back in 2nd Edition (I think), assault cannons were described as 'self-loading machine autocannons', the implication being that regular autocannons weren't 'machine' guns i.e. not automatic. So these two sources agree with each other. Autocannons probably should've been called just 'cannons', but that sounds wank and not cool enough so GW stuck the 'auto' on the front for funsies. Possibly also because there were loads of other 'cannons' with prefixes like lascannons, starcannons, assault cannons etc, and it helped to clarify that you weren't talking about any other type when you were up against a beardy goit of an opponent. Probably.

In reality an auto cannon is... an auto cannon, it's a thing that actually exists and is basically a cannon that is automatic. It's employed today mounted on vehicles and usually has 20mm APHE shells (almost like a bolter). So yeah, we are closer to 40k than you might think.

I'm sure some guard have bolt pistols, like Commissars and stuff. Also Inquisitors can carry most weapons, bolters, heavy bolters etc. Also Servitors can carry heavy bolters, too. So it's not just Astartes and Sisters who can wield them.

Dude, the imperial guard does use bolters, Sargent Harker can carry a heavy bolter and fire it. Godwyn-De'az and Locke Patterns are designed for use by unaugmented humans and are used by officers. They are made differently from Astartes bolters with less stopping power. Realistically it's likely down to economics, the lasgun is basically the 40k equivalent of an AK47, Cheap, reliable, and lethal.

You left one out. It is a pistol produce in the Golden Age of Technology. Can't remember the name but think it starts with an M and is named after its inventor. I think. Name doesn't describe what it does like bolter or flamer. This gun is so rare you will only see it mentioned in 1 out of 20 or more books or maybe only books by one writer. It is a real badass weapon and will kill almost anything you hit with it. You might have missed it cause it's human compatible/size.

The auto cannon is definitely NOT a light machine gun. To be a gun nerd here. The best and easiest way to describe the difference between a Light, Medium or heavy machine gun is the round size mixed with firing platform. Anything that would be a light machine gun, would fire close to standard rifle rounds while being able to be used with one soldier who carries the weapon with them at all times. They may also still be able to fire the weapon on the move if need be, but mostly try to find a position to get to and open fire. The auto canon is definitely a heavy machine gun as it fires a massive round and must be crewed by multiple people using a mostly fixed position and tripod mount.
