Long awaited, but well worth it: Here is every single thing we do to our 7.3 Powerstroke’s to make them leak free and reliable. This video took lots of effort to execute, film, and put together, so please leave a like and subscribe if it helped you!
7.3 Parts List
Most of this stuff can be found on RiffRaff, or XDP, or other comparable diesel site. Some of it can be also found on Amazon. I have provided some links below. The KEY is: DO NOT cheap out on the part and make sure when you get it, it is factory sealed and looks 100% oem and is not switched out with an off brand.
*Some stuff listed is only for the 99.5-03

As long as you have 8 glow plugs working and a good glow plug relay that truck should never need to be plugged in except in sub freezing temps. One of the biggest problems is the relay goes out often. I run a led light inside my cab that runs to the glow plug side terminal on the relay and to the battery. This way I always know when there is power going to the glow plugs. When the relay starts going bad the led will starts to flicker but after a few fast key cycles it usually will stay on. Sometimes tapping on the relay with a wrench or something hard will usually make it work again. Sometimes I've even gotten another year out of it. Unless the temperature is around zero this Michigan truck will always start on the first cycle.

Yes, I believe good glow plugs and you don’t have to plug it in. Many years ago, I drove a tow truck, 1989 F-SuperDuty. Cycle the glow plugs a few times and it started. Evan at zero degrees F. without a block heater plugged in.

Wrong, mine had new glow plugs, relays, under valve cover harness and still had a hard time starting, injectors were wore out and once changed, it fires up any time without being plugged in.

I am a 24 year original owner of a 2000 7.3 CC DRW 4WD... I have 488,000. I will never buy a new diesel pickup. I am sourcinģ a Southern body. I am just starting to aquire the body. I have done injectors, cups, ĢPs at 387. Current I am having a cold start issue. If it is plugged in or stays above 40 it starts fine. It is dropping a cylinder or 3 until it runs for a while. I am glad i found you guys. I had a Landscape and Lawn care/ Irrigation and Snow removal company for 24 years. We ran all Fords. We were up to 18 plus the wife's van / excursion.. Thanks for making my up coming restoration project way easier... I have 2 other 7.3 cominģ right after.

One thing that needs addressed on these trucks that I don’t know if you covered or not (I haven’t had time to watch the whole video) is that the windshield seal will leak. So what? If the GEM module gets wet it will cause all sorts of whacky issues. Won’t shift into OD, can’t turn the blower motor off, horn starts blowing in the middle of the night, etc. etc. It’s usually fine again once it dries out but you’ll pull your hair out trying to understand it. Ford no longer makes the module and if yours gets destroyed then you’re off to the junkyard hoping to find a truck optioned similarly to yours. They aren’t all the same.

That’s a great point. We have mentioned that in past videos. But not in this one. Have had that happen to a few trucks of ours. There is actually a way to fix it that I have found (the gem). Maybe one day I can make a video on it if I come across another one

This i the best 7.3 maintenance video on the Tube. I have a 2000 I bought new and it has 106K miles on it. I've done a few mods on it and it runs great and get about 19MPG on the highway. Love the truck. After watching your video, I think I'm ready to give my truck some love. The #8 cackle injector you mentioned, right after I bought my truck, it had a terrible cackle. The dealership said that is common and not a problem. After doing some forum research, I discovered the cackle is from air that is sucked in the the quick connect fuel lines and gets trapped at the #8 fuel rail. I got rid of the quick connects, installed a regulated return and swapped out the #8 injector with the same model as the rest of the injectors. Eliminated the cackle, smoother idle, a bit more power and improved mileage.

Mostly this video with a little extra info from a different video has made me 100% confident and excited about this project. I don’t want to start a project without knowing 100% exactly what’s needed to tackle it, i bought one that’s clearly been leaking for awhile but everything else checked out, has 160k miles with a new transmission. I was sitting here complaining about my shop not being big enough yet yall are doing it in MUCH less space 😂

Great video guys! I remember learning to do most of this in mush the same way you guys speak of, if i didnt know how to do something id research it on youtube until i found a good video watch a few times until i felt comfortable, order the parts, and off i went! I still remember working on my first 7.3 like it was yesterday, one of the first mods i ever did was a turbo wheel/pedestal & up-pipe upgrade. I got everything out, and placed all over my wifes kitchen table naturally. I then decided it would be a great idea, while i had a few things out of the way, to clean out the engine valley. So i proceeded to spray everything down with some mean green and let that sit for awhile to soak in.... Mind you this was during my first winter in Alaska after living in Florida my whole life.... Welp after about 30 mins i come back out to the truck to realize ive just created a solid block of frozen mean green in the valley of my engine. So there i was, extension cord ruining all the way from the cabin hooked up to my wife's hair dryer for the next hour praying i could get it thawed lmao. Thanks for the great videos guys, and to answer your question, yes, if i lived around area id definitely bring my truck to you guys!!!

I bought my 2002 f250 7.3 4x4 with 54,000 miles, not running for 5000$ in 2018. So far I have replaced all fluids, brakes, hoses and lines, power steering pump and hoses, all suspension components except the leaf springs, banks rear end cover, 5 inch turbo back exhaust, S and B intake, t6 chip and an adrenaline hpop. Looking at adding a Fass fuel system and coolant filter next. Liked and subscribed cause this video

158 is nothing on these 7.3 if you want to blow 2 grand and labor on it go ahead, got my 96 f250 with 350 and change on odmeter rebuilt /overhauled injectors new glowplugs new hpop, new sensors, uvch and aftermarket turbo pedestal, everything I replaced was factory original, and this truck had been used hard hauling and towing. The only reason I replaced the above parts was to make it start easier and for peace of mind at the miles that were on it and, it showed all the signs on being rode hard and put away wet multiple times. When International first ran and tested these engines they ran them the equivelent of over 500 thousand with no signs of wear, with your Excursion at 158 and babied that engine is just getting broken in

Just a note: I went to advance auto parts and purchased a fan clutch removal tool, ended up having to modify the tool to fit around the bolts to take the fan off using a bur bit to make an exact fit, therefore I didn't spend but 20 couple of dollars way back when on this tool, although worth whatever the tool costs thus far. I kept it, and use it every time I have to pull and replace the water pump. You guys are doing a great job! Enjoying your video on this, mechanic here for 30 plus yrs

Good point, at the time of the build the lpops were on back order so we passed on the whole kit due to timing. We just resealed it and new gasket. Seems now they are back in stock, would totally do it on the next time around while we’re at it. Besides that in all our trucks over the past 10 years with good maintenance we have not really had any trouble with them but it is one of those things to do while you’re in that deep, so thanks for the comment!

Guys thank you for this video! Had a question about the coolant block plugs. I am also a jersey guy so mine are looking crusty. Do you have any insight as to where to source replacements for a 2002 F250? RiffRaff doesn't have them and I'd like to replace those.

My Father has a 96 f250 & it just will randomly shut of like you turned the ignition off. Runs perfect when it starts. It starts runs for 5-10 mins then shuts off. Still have all power will, sometimes start right back up and do the same thing. He’s replaced the ipr / cps/ and like 3 other things under the hood. Still does the same thing. Any ideas we haven’t checked the fuel pressure yet. Also replaced camshaft sensor all oem parts as well

If rust is a issue in your area use fluid film or similar. Im in CT and both my 1990 7.3 and 2011 duramax are 100% rust free. It takes 1 hour a year to stop the rust 100%. Just washing it won't work.

I just wish you guys would have had a simple flashlight to shine under the car and in the engine compartment when you were recording because we really can't see a lot of the stuff you're talking about when you go into dark areas. Other than that so glad you guys made this video I'm going to follow it to a T on my 99 f250 7.3

On my shorty I have stage 2 turbo and injectors. Air dog fuel pump and beans sump, exhaust, tuned the whole bit and it scoots. But for these we just don’t invest the money in go fast parts as much for the trucks pulling our trailers. Part of it is that we don’t want to add the thousands more to the bill but also some of it is we don’t really need to go too fast in them
