Most of the stores in Lombard Street are now closed due to the street conditions and lack of foot traffic . no customers no business. It is impossible to find parking and when you do find parking chances are you will somehow end up with a parking ticket of over $140 if you’re lucky enough not to get the car towed
Lombard Street is an east-west street in San Francisco, California, that is famous for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns. The street stretches from The Presidio east to The Embarcadero. Most of Lombard Street's western segment is a major thoroughfare designated as part of U.S. Route 101

I’m a native who left. Lived there in the 50s-70s. My family until a few years ago. This isn’t what SF has always been. The great food and night life was always there. Now, it’s not so safe at night, especially in certain areas late at night. Sad to see this negative demise. It began when newsome was mayor. His radical changes destroyed this once great city. He’s quietly doing the same to the entire state. That “5th largest economy “ bs is because it’s always been like that… since WW2. Newsome had nothing to do with that at all. Both the city and state are in huge budget deficits. Coincidence? Look closer. WU kids. It’s only going to get worse the way it’s going.

In 2009 I left S.F. for the ranch and my friends thought I was crazy for thinking the city would become unlivable. Life is so good here, 30 miles from the nearest town. No carjacking, smash and grabs, knockout games, weirdos, etc. 1/4 mile of driveway before you even get to the gate. Good neighbors, peace and quiet, produce most of what I eat and Mother Nature is always entertaining.

Both the Mayor and Govenor should be so proud of how their short sighted misguided policies have destroyed San Francisco. Family values, social values, safety for the tax paying Citizens and Workers, moral values being taught in the schools have all fallen short for the great majority of San Franciscans. The Blue Party constantly talks about sharing and giving all people a chance until somebody wants to give the Red Party a chance at making our city strong and prosperous once again. The Blue Party has pretty much controlled San Fran and Ca for the past four decades with results which speak for themselves. In 2009 lived on Russian Hill 2 blocks from the windiest road Lombard. Jogged mornings 3am those streets, I don’t remember any closed for lease stores. How things have changed. As a Yankee from New England I found San Francisco that one year, the coldest winter ever and I was there in the summer. Loved the weather and the tiny hummingbirds. Great view of the bay from our living room. That fog around 4pm and burnt off by 10am the next morning was just crazy. I loved running in the fog. Good memories. Thanks for sharing Leo, sad but needs shown how far things in SF have disintegrated.

I did. Born and raised there in the mid 50's. Was a inner sunset kid almost my entire life until i moved out to So City near Serramonte shopping center in the late 90's. I went to visit her during the winter, but I couldn't handle all that snow and the cold. I moved overseas too. I now live as an expat in the Philippines. It's such a shame. San Francisco is a beautiful city in terms of the architecture and gold rush history. Now it's become a cruel joke, like an experiment where researchers try to see the extent that people are willing to undergo to deal with rising costs of living coupled with a decreasing quality of life. Pretty soon, there'll be barely any businesses. Car jackings and shoplifting are rampant, homeless are out of control and rising, average rent for a 2 bed 2 bath is like $4,000, and it'll just be down the drain completely. Get out while you still can.

Not on Lombard. It's too much traffic.

I grew up there in 1949. It is in fact the Marina, just off Cow Hollow. And yes, tourists did stay at some of those motels. Today.. yes. It’s garbage. It was much different before the tech boom. Prove me wrong. I played music at several bars during the late 60s in that area. I can tell you stories for hours of what it was like from the 50s-70s. After I moved away to outer areas like the peninsula and Marin , my family lived there until 2019. We sold everything after that. But I still visited once a week from the 80s until then and we ate at a lot of those restaurants near our family properties. We knew the business owners as friends. As far as trashy… the tenderloin has always been that. The Marina, the Lombard corridor and Cow Hollow were always some of the best neighborhoods in SF.

Please do Richmond district, Geary/Clement again. Was out yesterday, walked for several blocks, places open a week before or just yesterday!! said Closed!! For Lease signs all over. Walked all the way down to 24th Ave, both sides. New restaurants open and close shortly after. A couple small produce markets changed hands, like you say, good luck with that as prices so sky high tho! The homeless and addicts, mental cases with skateboards get pushed here to make downtown, Civic Center, UN plaza, look better! This video today is stunning! thx

yep. i take 38 geary out to 39th ave or so, geary is dormant for sure. first time i saw the locked up drug store was a few years ago after Strictly bluegrass, went to the walgreens at 18th avenue and everything was locked up inside. first time i saw that, now it is the norm. Junkies can get on the bus, no mystery why that store was stolen from. Etc. Retails stores are empty al over; hey Politicians, if you want build housing talk about converting. Nope, too basic for the elected class

I lived on 2nd/Clement before moving out to Geary/42nd in 90s. I loved the area with all the restaurants and proximity to Golden Gate Park where I jogged. Leo’s video a few months ago on Richmond area was so sad! Hate what has happened to the city!

This is pretty shocking. I rarely visit the Lombard Street area, and it was never a fun walk for pedestrians (all that car traffic whooshing by), but I assumed until now that it was doing OK because of its proximity to the Marina district. Apparently not. Thanks for the update, Leo!

This is due to the pandemic. Many workers left SF. The rents were driven so high by the tech industry, it didn't make sense for businesses to try to continue. Lombard doesn't have a huge homeless issue, so all these people blaming the homeless problem on it doesn't track.
