SF has had problems for years but now the situation is COMPLETELY insane! I know European visitors used to love the city but they saw only the good parts. Now, there are no good parts except perhaps the Marina district. I personally used to love Japantown and although it seems to have had a revival, the area it's in is still dangerous. I find it amazing that iin SF, it is difficult to ex[ress a conservative opinion (in general) but okay to defacate on the sidewalks and throw out old narcotic needles. Absolutley disgusting. Our CEO just came back from a business trip to San Francisco. He said it is a 3rd world country. To get to lunch, he had to move through tents, people running and screaming at him, etc. He was shocked how far the city has decended. Such a shame.

I went to SF every year to celebrate my birthday. I first stopped during the pandemic and then just never had much of an urge to go back. The aura just doesn't seem the same with the dying economy, the streets aren't bustling anymore it's just becoming depressing. It still has the beaches, but you can go to places like Monterey for a beautiful beach that doesn't have 'Zombies' and the risk of a mugging.

Thanks for your post! I've been posting for years that the two brothers in greed and scamming, the tech and real estate industries, fed off each other for years. Then the pandemic hit right when the RE grifters priced everyone out of housing, retail and office space. Once the 'work from home' started, the bustling downtown and SOMA areas are now a ghost town. Not to mention all the techies went home and their companies left to ruin another unsuspecting city, or community. Thanks for understanding what has really happened to San Francisco. We still have the best weather, beautiful views, delicious food and plenty of good, hard-working, friendly, caring people. It's beauty, history and possibilities will never be matched. My company went from 100+ people in the office to 5-6. The rest are permanent remote, with a lot of them not even in the state anymore. And we're little. With so many huge companies facing the same thing, all the surrounding businesses that used to support those workers (and vice versa) just can't survive anymore. I was a homeless woman stuck in a shelter in san Francisco while I healed from some feet injury in 1992, (meth-fueled blisters, the hospital, had to peel my feet-yikes) They treated me well, but I was just passing thru. I celebrated 22 years sober 07-18-23. Homeless everywhere are mostly dedicated to living on streets. Plus the high rents on businesses. No one wins.

So I worked with a lot of the zombies through my job and noticed about 7-8 years ago when the influx of other states were sending their willing homeless populations to SF cuz the policies so they wouldn’t be a burden on the resources wherever they came from. It’s always been this way, but became ridiculous around 2015 is when I started noticing it anyway…. Now I’d wager they constitute probably 80% of EMS calls in the city of not more taking ambulances off the street for the public who actually pays their bills every now and then… of course the government agencies eat it up for more and more federal funding…. It’s gonna take 50 years, if ever to get SF back where it was 25-30 years ago. Sad cuz it used to be such a nice place to go around Xmas or holidays. Now you go down the wrong road at the wrong time and get a ticket as a zombie poops right in front of you…

After multiple near muggings on the street and in PAID PARKING STRUCTURES, I just decided to leave. I used to work in the Financial District for years, but after the homeless took over, it was no longer worth it. There used to be areas that were safe, but the homeless have infiltrated every sanctuary we used to rely on for normalcy. We used to ferry to other parts of the Bay to get away, but no more, they're everywhere. If you drive, just know it's not a matter of if you're going to get a brick through your window, but when. I have no plans to ever return.

In Regard to your comment on the Waikiki Beach Souvenirs, I think Hawaii would have the same souvenirs as San Francisco. I lived in Hawaii for 4 (close to 5) years. It's just like San Francisco, but much smaller and denser. Very Expensive, lots of homeless (seemingly more than in San Francisco because the island is so small), Lots of litter and Nutella on the sidewalks which includes a needle on the ground right in front of an elementary school and a broken glass bottle also in front of that same elementary school. Same Shoplifting habits, same small one-bedroom apartments, same business failure due to the increased cost of starting a business, everything. There's no need to visit Hawaii if you're from San Francisco, you can enjoy Hawaii right at home! I lived in California before living in Hawaii, and I can say that all the other cities in California are much better in dealing with these issues (Even the L.A area). I am from the Sacramento Area, and we have never had a problem with affordability and homelessness, until recently when more and more SF transplants begin to move in.

There are still dozens of tech and startups in San Francisco. As far as these garbage on the streets, for the most part they are fairly isolated to certain streets and alley ways. As far as the whole "Walgreens" and others like that are shutting down. It is only affecting the lower income and limited mobility residents. The portion of residents who make up the tech/startup/bio/investment and etc aren't bothered by any of these as none of these actually affects them whatsoever. Many of these individuals live in mega condos. The best way to think about it is that they live in a bubble and as long as the bubble isn't bursting. They can continue to go about their day as usual. Tourism, low income residents, limited mobility individuals and small pop stores are the ones being affected. One thing that can be certain is that San Francisco has lost most of its culture. Whatever remnants of residents and transplant acting as if San Francisco is still what it is just never learn. Mission streets and the last bustling of migrants and Latin culture is slowly being pushed out. Soon Mission Street will be taken over as usual by greedy tech hoping to leech off a house or three and brag about how they were able to make while destroying the culture of the area.

My wife and I moved to the bay in early 2020- both working in downtown SF. After visiting, we still didn't live in SF. Moved to Piedmont near Oakland. And SF is worse now. An absolutely disgusting mess. Since covid, we never went to SF unless compelled by a friend/family member.
