Every interception that former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi made in his NFL career, sorted chronologically
Tedy Bruschi is a former professional American football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons. He played college football for the University of Arizona, and was a two-time consensus All-American. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft, and played his entire professional career with the Patriots. Bruschi won three Super Bowls and was a two-time All-Pro selection.
The New England Patriots selected Bruschi in the third round (86th overall) of the 1996 NFL Draft. Coming into the draft he was listed at 6'0 250 pounds and was considered too small to be a defensive end but was a good size to be a linebacker, which is the position that New England coaches moved him.
He played for the Patriots from 1996 to 2008. Bruschi never used an agent during his time with the New England Patriots.
In 1996, he played in every game as a rookie, a pass rush specialist who played on many special teams units and finished the season with 11 tackles, including four sacks. He ranked third on the team with 17 special teams tackles, and ran a blocked punt back for a TD in October. Bruschi recorded two sacks in Super Bowl XXXI against the Green Bay Packers, just one shy of the Super Bowl record (Reggie White, 3.0). In 1997, he saw action in every game for the second consecutive season and posted 30 defensive tackles, including four sacks, and added 13 special teams stops. His four sacks and 13 special teams tackles each ranked third on the team, and he also forced two fumbles, and recovered one. In 1998, Bruschi played in every game for the third consecutive year and started the last eight games of the season, including the Patriots wild-card playoff game in Jacksonville (January 3, 1999). He finished fourth on the team with a career-high 81 tackles, including a pair of sacks.
In 1999, he started 14 games at outside linebacker and recorded a career-high 138 total tackles, including two sacks. Bruschi finished second on the team in tackles, despite missing two games due to a right knee sprain. He made his first career interception, one of six passes defensed on the year. 2000 saw Bruschi start all 16 games at weakside linebacker and finished with 105 tackles (68 solos). It was his second consecutive season with over 100 tackles. In 2001, he started nine of 15 regular season games at linebacker and finished third on the team with 73 tackles. He was credited with two sacks, forced three fumbles, recovering one, and two interceptions.
In 2002 Bruschi was voted a defensive captain for the season by his teammates. He ranked seventh on the team with 65 tackles (45 solos) despite missing five games due to injury. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns (at Oakland, November 17, and at Detroit, November 28), the seventh time a Patriot interceptor has reached the end zone twice in a single season and the first time a linebacker has accomplished the feat. In 2003 he started all 16 games at inside linebacker as one of four defensive players to start all 16 games and he was voted a defensive captain for the season by his teammates. He ranked second on the team with 137 tackles (87 solo) and finished third on the team with 16 pass defenses. He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Weeks Two and 14. In the 2004 regular season, Bruschi finished second on the team with 122 tackles (84 solo) and tied for second on the team with three interceptions. His solid play continued in the playoffs, where he finished second on the squad with 23 tackles (18 solo) and added a sack, an interception, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Bruschi was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week three times in 2004: Weeks 4 and 17 and in the Divisional Playoffs, when he forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles as the Patriots defense held the highly regarded Colts offense to just three points.

Another Parcells guy. It's wild how many key guys from the "first dynasty" were drafted by Parcells. And Belichick got familiar with them on Parcells's staff. That's a critical element to the Patriots' success that is overlooked. Amazing how he came back from that stroke. An inspiration to me as someone who also has PFO (but otherwise no similar physical traits, haha).

it was amazing that he came back but he was never the same elite playerplaymaker hed become...he had merely 1 INT in 4yrs as a patriot after the stroked was a step slow in potential gamechanging situations instead of being a step ahead of everyone like hed been from 2001-2004...compare the play he made vs Indy in the div rd in jan 2005 to more or less beat d.rhodes to the spot on a screen play and rip the ball out of rhodes hands while taking rhodes to the ground to the play he failed to make 2januarys later in the afccg vs indy when reggie wayne lost control of the ball in mid stride and the football went floating into the air well above everyones heads only to land back in waynes hands...bruschi seemed like he was frozen in place that potenital fumble floated in the air seemingly forever as tho time stopped...everyone takes a dump on asante for dropping the int in SB42 a yr later yet bruschi gets a hall pass for freezing up on a play that could have helped the pats go on to their 4th sb win in 6seasons if bruschi had plucked that loose ball out of the air or had simply put wayne on the ground before wayne could catch the ball instead of freezing up and letting wayne catch it himself. He was a great player but does not belong in canton because he only performed at an elite or HOF level for about 1/3 or at best half of his NFL career. It was kinda sad to watch how much the stroke had reduced him because in 2004 he was as good as any 34 ILB could be...he had 1int and 4fumble recoveries during the 2004-05 postseason...they only played 3 playoff games that postseason while winning the sb for a 2nd yr in a row...those are numbers one might expect more from ray lewis...had he performed at that elite level for 2/3 of his career he would belong in Canton. Id say similar things about Rodney Harrison-he was never the same guy after the knee injury he suffered in sept 2005-but Harrison absolutely does belong in Canton, performed on an elite level for about 9 if not 10 seasons out of his 15 yr career, and virtually all the lapses where he wasnt playing outstanding football were injury related excluding his rookie yr...it wsa sad nnoonetheless those last few yrs seeing him not be a big hitter big playmaker reliable tackler and dominant force...he was never able to cut hard off that left knee again so ball carriers and receivers after the catch were able to juke right and cut to their left and leave him trailng in their wake or at least diving/grabbing at their legs from behind to tackle them...in his prime no 1 at the position hit better or was a more sound, reliable, and relentless tackler...his body broke down on him, and he absolutely put it thru insane brutality...during his time with the Pats he broke his forearm twice late in SB38, had already tweaked his knee(sprained his patella tendon if memory serves) late that regular season...tore all 3 knee ligaments as well as his miniscus in 2005 ...came back in 06 broke his scapula/shoulderblade vs Indy midseason and then when he miraculously made it back late that reg season tore his PCL and was knocked out for the postseason for a 2nd yr in a row...stayed healthy in 07 but got tagged for the HGH at end of preseason and upon returning from the 4game suspension just wasnt the overwhelming dominant playmaking intimidating force hed been in 2003 or 2004 for the Pats on a consistent basis, was instead the guy who inadvertantly helped pin the ball to Tyrees helmet...He tore his quad in 2008 called it a career... For 2 seasons in a row 2003 and 2004 while more or less healthy and still in his prime Rodney Harrison produced by far the best 2 seasons of football Ive seen from any Patriots safety...His omission from Canton cant be truly justified by the HGH suspension because there was no failed drug test...it was an online paper trail...The thing is there were very similar situations with Ray Lewis and Peyton Manning where paper trails connecting them to HGH and/or deer antler spray were uncovered but every1 in the media and in the NFL front offices were so in love with both of them that no1 had a problem with it or suspended them for it... The beginning of the pats 10yr trophy hiatus was difficult to stomach as a Patsfan because th Patsy transformed from featuring a defense chalk full of good and great players and playmakers into a defense that had depth issues a lack of playmakers and weaknesses at positions that had been their greatest strengths while winning those 1st 3 Lombardi trophies....it wasnt just bruschi and harrison law left t.johnson retired phifer left within another yr mcginest also departed eugene wilson declined when rodney got injured in 05 and after being a promising competent young safety thru his 1st 2yrs became inconsistent and unreliable if not outright incompetent at times...what was even more frustrating was that they continued spending more money on that side of the ball than on offense until 2007 at the earliest and no outcome has or will ever compare to how bitterly painful that turned out in SB42
