Yep, I'm 35, found them when I was 16, in 2003. They've been my favorite band ever since. Like, I always have 3 or 4 favorite bands at any time, but ETID has been one of them for 19 years. Every time I've seen them has been life changing. I got to scream the end "DRAG THE LAKE" breakdown of Floater with Keith and like 5 other dudes in Louisville back in 09. But honestly the best thing about ETID is how they have always made sure to get young up and coming bands to blow up, like Counterparts, Knocked Loose, etc. Also no one should sleep on Keith Buckley's features on other bands' songs. Especially "My Greatest Fear Is Splendid" by Say Anything and "Forget Your Name" by Knocked Loose.

Every Time I Die is the best band on the planet. Thank you for doing this video. These guys do not get the recognition they deserve. Especially for how long they've been around. And yes, Keith Buckley is a fantastic lyricist. I don't think anyone is better. 🤘🏼

ETID sound to me like mashing together early Converge and At The Drive-In's Relationship of Command with the playful lunacy of vintage Nomeansno. And if you aren't familiar with that last band, I highly recommend looking up their 1989 album "Wrong". One of the most slept on albums in history. It should be huge.

Worth noting, this album was recorded and wrapped up in early 2020 and many of the songs were 2 years old by the time they released them. Knowing that these lyrics were written before Covid was a full on pandemic and before all the rioting and unrest in the US started, it gives me a lump in my throat. Absolutely, fucking brilliant. Check out their album Low Teens front to back. Life altering lyrics in that one, too. As far as workout tracks… shuffle their entire discography, it won’t miss

What's great about ETID is that I've heard (I think) every song, and my reaction to the opening of "Dark Distance" was exactly the same. I think it's universal, you HAVE to make that face. It's like "Did he just say that? Did he say THAT? OH yeah." Then the guitars come in. Too good.

Lol yeah Every Time I Die is the most influential hardcore band of the last 25 years hands down. The current crop of "best HC bands around" are all explicitly influenced by ETID, and have said so. Counterparts, Knocked Loose, Code Orange, etc. Honestly I think overall they have been more influential than Converge or The Dillinger Escape Plan.

ETID always have wild features on every album, usually they'll have one obvious one and one come out of left field. Like Low Teens had the dude from Coalesce on one song and fucking Brendon Urie on another. New Junk Aesthetic had Greg from Dillinger Escape Plan on The Marvelous Slut and goddamn Pete Wentz on After One Quarter of a Revolution. People sleep on Keith's features too. Like My Greatest Fear is Splendid by Say Anything, Forget Your Name by Knocked Loose, and the Renditions remix of 27 Club by letlive.

@@Roguenjosh Floater and Ebolarama are from their 2003 album, called Hot Damn! It's basically universally considered to be one of the best hardcore albums of the late 90s-early 00s, along with Jane Doe by Converge, The Opposite of December by Poison the Well, etc. It was only their second full length album, and it was from 2003, so obviously it sounds a little more raw, but actually the music itself is more technical than their later shit. But yeah Floater and Ebolarama are two songs that ETID played at basically every show they ever played from the day they debuted onward. I saw ETID like 10 times over more than a decade, they always played Floater and Ebolarama. Godspeed Us to Sea, She's My Rushmore, and Hit of the Search Party are also really good songs from Hot Damn!

Been an ETID fan since I first heard Hot Damn and this album is taking a while for me to get into. Really lacks the explosiveness that was present on From Parts Unknown and Low Teens.
@nomadist_eye
@nomadist_eye 2 жыл бұрын
I agree FPU was heavy/fast/pissed as hell but honestly, in terms of "explosiveness", this one has got so much more of it than low teens (which wore heavier in terms of lyrics I find but definetely not musicwise). That's just my feeling, I starter ETID with low teens, it was great but little by little I realise it's my least favorite of the past 4 albums and Radical directly jumped at number 1 lol
