I have no idea if this was intentional, but the reason Joe doesn't just get another leg transplant in later seasons is because they crippled his spine this time, so a leg transplant won't solve it this time. In fact, when Peter is doing anything for $10 Joe asks for his L4 vertebrae, suggesting the writers remember that Joe's cause of being a cripple has changed. Finally, Joe is shown to be worse off now that the issue is his spine. Before his legs may not have worked but his lower body still did. Now he cannot use the bathroom properly. This also explains why Joe was strong and happy in earlier seasons but now is miserable and suicidal.

Literally at the first sign of domestic violence Brenda's boyfriend could be arrested and given a no contact order. Whether it's reported or there's physical evidence. Both happen in the episode, people around Brenda witnessing the abuse and Brenda herself having signs of violence done to her body. In Rhode Island if domestic violence occurs again he'd *have* to go to jail. If a third time, he'd have to go to jail for at least a year to ten years. So Joe is full of it and it's a terrible message for a show to give, because even if they were doing it "ironically" like "oh the cops are useless", it just tells the people being abused that they shouldn't seek out help at all. God this episode makes me angry

14:52 again jsut bc HE seen it, doesnt mean he can just arrest him, u need a warrant to get into the house. then u need actual proof that he is infact hitting her. which they didnt have. also seriously if the girl doesnt press charges the police really CANT do anything other than hold jeff for 24 hours in the drunk tank. there was a real life criminal case where a man was beating his girlfriend and she would have the cops called by neighbors and they would come she would beg for them to just leave. they get the abuser in custody and once again the girls not pressing charges so they hold him for 24 hours let him go. this routine goes on for months till the guy is just too drunk one night, doesnt understand the amount of strength hes using and bashed the poor girls brains in with his fist. then and only then did the police have probable cause enough to get truly involved
