I hate how they never talk about why he calls him Alexander instead of Alec. In the Bane Chronicles he says it’s because he wants to call him something longer, something that means more. Something that no one else calls him.

I think it's kinda obvious. No one else calls him Alexander, he never even introduced himself as Alexander - it's always Alec. So when Magnus calls him the full name, it's more unique, more meaningful. There's not always a conversation required for something to be clear.

I noticed a pattern here. It's so rare to hear Magnus mentioned Alec to other people as Alexander, it's almost always Alec. But if he speaks to the man himself, he 75% refers to him as Alexander, at least after they started dating, other than that it was always Alec. But while they were dating, Magnus only called him Alec if he wasn't in good mood (sad, angry, disappointed, etc).

If you haven't read these already, I'd like to suggest some: You'll enjoy the last two books of Bane Chronicles, "Born to Endless Night" and a short story "kissed". They're all about Malec (includes Max Lightwood Bane too) . Oh, also The Eldest Curses series. Here Malec is the protagonist couple.
