Probably my most favorite recurring song in Looney Tunes. Mainly cause the song perfectly characterizes the the concept money and living the high life. And also the chorus that's mainly played is too damn catchy.

At 2:30, the cash register opens to show a Morgan dollar (1878-1904 and 1921), a backwards-facing buffalo nickel (in current circulation at the time, made from 1913-1938), the same Lincoln cent obverse as we see in 2024 (but backwards) and a reverse-facing Barber quarter (1892-1916).
@OldsVistaCruiser
@OldsVistaCruiser 10 ай бұрын
And at 7:22, a currently-used (1916-1945) Mercury dime, a Washington quarter (1932-1998) and an Indian-head penny (1859-1909) are shown. I'm surprised that the Indian head was still in circulation when that cartoon was made. The wheat penny that replaced it left circulation before 1970, after the Lincoln Memorial cent debuted in 1959.

I got pretty disappointed with the music score in the new Looney Tunes Cartoons. It's mostly just generic cues, and they never use any of these 20s/30s pop songs. And idk why, since these songs are owned by WB. What's the point of spending money hiring an orchestra for a LT cartoon if you're not going to play these songs??

I see it two ways: WB being miserly OR the audience for this sort of music being gone now. The fact this channel exist to catalogue all the famous music pieces used in WB cartoons can be a hint to WB being reluctant to use such in modern animation...

"Bosko's Picture Show" & "We're in the Money" were the final 2 Warner Bros cartoons that Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising made before leaving for MGM to open up their own cartoon studio. Note: "We're in the Money" is also the final "Merrie Melodies" cartoon to use the "Get Happy" theme and the last Warner Bros cartoon to have Frank Marsales compose the score before he left for Universal to compose music for Walter Lantz studios.

Some of these were cinema shorts, so at the time it was never thought that anyone will see these again. There was no thought of reruns or tv series until the television came in. Then the internet happened and that would seem to be all. Not really. Now is more well known that WB had archives of soundtracks and compositions; so it stands to reason that they would used them if they thought they would fit or if the bugdet was cut.

Yes, under "sweat shop" conditions in a South Korean animation studio in 1968. Imagine an entire platoon of South Korean animators working for peanuts, retracing film frames from 16mm black and white prints, and reanimating them in color......and not as precise as the originals. In 1990 {and over the next several years}, they were redone again, using computer-generated colors which kept the original animation intact.

... ya know... as someone who is music literate, I find it extremely frustrating how inaccurately playing music is usually animated. If it's subtly off or an instrument I'm not that familiar with it's not that big a deal, but when it's something obvious, like playing a high note on the low end of a keyboard or bell set, that always strikes a nerve for me.

Singing a song about having lots of money during the Great Depression. People are so not this optimistic and hopeful anymore. Least of all, me.
