Leon der Luftige I seriously doubt Sokka would send children out into battle. Think of it this way. Sokka’s dad was leading the Southern Water Tribe’s militia and Sokka felt abandoned and left out and desperately wanted to prove himself to his dad. He probably thought by teaching the younger generation to grow up to be strong warriors of the tribe, that he would gain approval from Hakoda.

@@SuryanshPandey555 which is true, in a way. Sokka connected more to his father Hakota, whereas Katara connected more to her mother. In fact, that line would strengthen the idea, since Sokka can’t really remember their mother and Katara filled that hole for him. Katara’s line was cruel and spoken in anger, but it had an element of truth to it and wasn’t implying that Sokka didn’t love his mom, just that he thought of her in a different way and losing her affected him differently.

When i was a kid, at the part where Sokka holds Toph's hand so she doesn't fall - it made me cry. I wrote a fanfic where after the war, Sokka has to go back to his tribe in the South, really missing Toph who disappeared after their night together. A year passes and one day when Sokka is standing guard over his new home, the clan chief, he sees traders approach. He goes to greet the trader leader as is custom and is completely surprised to find Toph - with his child! She decides to stay and help him watch over the Southern water tribe and raise their son Toka together happily!
