The reason Marble Hill is in Manhattan - the Spuyten creek was rerouted to make the Harlem river more navigable, before that the creek ran north of Marble Hill

1:34:35 Marble Hill used to be part of Manhattan Island. In the early 1800s the connection between Spuyten Duyvil Creek and the Harlem River were straightened out and the old Spuyten Duyvil Channel was filled in… making Marble Hill physically connected to the Bronx and separated from the rest of Manhattan.
@JorgeCat783 жыл бұрын
0:52 - The reason for that was track maintenance up on the Astoria corridor. Since having both Ns and Ws up there with everybody going down the express Southbound (or Manhattan-bound) would cause ungodly congestion, the Ws were rerouted up to 96 to share some space with the Qs. I cannot remember if it was from 10AM to 3:30PM or 10:30AM to 3PM.

This is like a new record for any video lol. 2 busses, miles of track you've never used in the Bronx, and 3 express trains because of construction / maintenance roughly in 1 hr of eachother. My suggestion is: (1) From 242nd st to 168th st (16 minutes) (A) From 168th st 59th st (19 minutes) (C) to 50th st (2 minutes) (E) To Lex Ave 53rd (6 minutes) (6) To 59th st (2 minutes) Walk to RIT tram stop (9 minutes) (RIT) To roosevelt ave (5 minutes) Total time w/out waiting 59 minutes, if all lines come every 9 minutes, 20-30 minutes of waiting for the median. Thanks for doing this BTW, I could feel your tiredness through the video - especially at 4av 9th st, that stop is a workout and a 1/2 just to cross tracks.

Congrats on making it through alive lol, I could hear your annoyance in the video Also, got a few WTN ideas. Dunno if they're too long or if they are okay. 1. Broadway Madness Go take a train that runs down "Broadway" in every borough and go through that section. (Staten Island is impossible so that's out of the question. You're welcome.) (1) --> (1/2/3) --> (R) --> (M) --> (G) --> [WALK] --> (J/M) (1) from Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street to 96 Street (1) STAY ON THE TRAIN from 96 Street to Times Square-42 Street OR (2/3), whichever comes first, to Times Square-42 Street (R) from Times Square-42nd Street to 46 Street (M) from 46 Street to Court Square-23 Street (G) from Court Square to Broadway [WALK] from Broadway (G) to Hewes Street (J)(M) (J/M), whichever one comes first, from Hewes Street to Marcy Avenue. 2. Fun With Numbers 2021 It's the Suprtoe classic, Fun With Numbers, but modernized! This time, the routes get a bit wonky... (1) --> (3) --> (5) --> (7) --> (6) --> (4) --> (2) (1) from Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street to 96 Street (3) from 96 Street to Fulton Street (5) from Fulton Street to Grand Central-42 Street (7) from Grand Central-42 Street to Grand Central-42 Street using the 34 Street-Hudson Yards terminal to loop back around. (6) from Grand Central-42 Street to Union Square-14 Street (4) from Union Square-14 Street to Borough Hall (2) from Borough Hall to Nevins Street (pretty close to DeKalb Avenue) 3. Fun With ODD Numbers (2021 FWN) It's the Suprtoe classic, but shorter! (1) --> (3) --> (5) --> (7) (1) from Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street to 96 Street (3) from 96 Street to Fulton Street (5) from Fulton Street to Grand Central-42 Street (7) from Grand Central-42 Street to 5 Avenue I hope you find one of my suggestions interesting, and I'll see you in your following adventures. 55:32 Willets Point is the little industrial neighborhood in Queens where the station serves. 56:47 I totally agree - I'd love to work that line! 57:09 They have the "Special Events" platform open for people getting the vaccine at Citi Field 57:25 That portion is abandoned, I guess they see no point in repairing it. Not sure what that "room" is. 58:19 Yes, Flushing-Main Street on the Port Washington branch 58:52 You are not wrong! 1:01:05 That's the NYPD 109th Precinct 1:04:21 Thank you, Stephen Colbert! 1:10:36 That would be the Bronx River 1:13:25 General Order in effect, no Manhattan-bound service between E 180 and 3 Av-149! That lasted until about 300PM 1:13:48 That would be a little dangerous considering its on the middle track! 1:14:50 No 1:15:53 Replacing track, and yes, the third rail power had to be turned off for the work they are doing! 1:16:54 The other side is closed off anyway, Manhattan-bound trains have to open up on the Northbound platform, as per the order 1:17:50 It's The Bronx, that's standard up there 1:21:14 😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈 Just back-ride at Burnside! NYCT is totally trolling you! 1:22:29 Mid-days is when we get a lot of outdoor work done, remember that! 1:24:29 *In a Snake Plissken voice* Your rules are really beginning to annoy me! 😁 1:27:07 Try 1987! Wow, you are quite lucky to have her. Even with all the obstacles in your path on top of that fact you didn't want to do Manhattan, you still managed to pull this off. Also, in regards to East New York, the name origin is simply because John Pitkin (who purchased what was once the Town of New Lots) named it to signify it as the eastern end of NYC. His vision was to grow it into an eastern hub
