The MPC is the way to go if you want a “dawless” setup IMO. For me coming from Ableton it took some time to get used to the MPC workflow, but once it clicked it just made sense. There is a reason the OG MPCs were called the “MIDI Production Center.” Some may contend that the new MPCs couldn’t be considered dawless as they’re like a cut down DAW themselves. I dunno, but I’d like to see someone who expects an Ableton quality piano roll on the MPC touch screen use it and tell me the editing capabilities are even half as comparable. Maybe a half DAW lol? Still, it plays better with my entire studio (9 instruments + MPC itself) than if it were sequenced by Ableton/Arturia sequencers.
@JorbLovesGear3 жыл бұрын
Moving from an MPC 1000, which I would never have called a daw, I agree this is way closer. Defining why is kinda hard though! Maybe the built in effects, maybe exciting what's recorded, maybe powerful sample editing 🤷
@BkuBrown2 жыл бұрын
As long as they keep AWAY from things like spectral analysers etc notice all the plugins and tech still forces you into using your ears over any visual mixing. With the piano roll its touchscreen but im sure we all are performing our midi and using the touchscreen to make later adjustments rather than just painting directly into the piano roll like many a DAW user. Please dont burst my DAWless bubble by telling me this is a DAW🤣👀🤣🤣🤣🤣

Is there an easy way to take a recorded midi track and quickly convert it to an audio loop? I have my Arturia Microfreak plugged in usb and it records and works great, however I want to easily "commit" that loop and move on. Ive tried the bouncing to sample, bouncing sequence and all that and nothing seems to work. I've resorted to soloing the midi track and resampling it into the sample section but this just seems like way too much work. I just want to take that midi loop and get it to audio fast to keep the flow rockin!

Hey man, love your channel, very genuine, I’m torn between a akai force and mpc live 2. I’ve had the force and I love the quick and easy clip launching. I don’t really sample much just midi sequencing. Each their own hardware synth I like to play in using their own keyboards and loop the midi into diff sequences and launch them together like Ableton/force. But I really love how the mpc live has the battery, speaker, and drive. I never actually get much time in my studio so I’m hoping with the battery and speakers I could essentially make backing tracks while I’m not in the studio and then have something for when I do get a chance to go in.. decisions 🤔 $1k decisions 🤔 what I know and love or what could possibly be better or possible be worse?

Thanx, great tutorial! Would the MPC record the filter cutoff (as CC automation) from the Deepmind via midi or usb together with the notes without setting up a Qlink for that CC first? Ableton does this without any special setup, it just records what it gets as an input from the external midi instrument (notes, cc control changes, ...) and than u can edit that automation data in the editor. Thanx
@JorbLovesGear Жыл бұрын
You need to make sure DM is set to send out CC on the right channel, and not NRPN but yeah, you can record CC. And if its going back out to the Deepmind, you're gucci. I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase the MPC Live II, but after searching far and wide for answers on KZbin and the interwebs, this video came the closest to showing me that what I'm envisioning I'd like to use it for. My idea was to use it for live shows to program MIDI beats on, but to also use it as a PC and CC MIDI controller that could trigger those commands out to my Headrush Looperboard, my Quad Cortex, and TC Helicon Voicelive (to send MIDI notes to the harmonizer) at precise moments in a sequence (song), so that I don't have to worry so much about triggering those MIDI PC and CC commands on my Morningstar MC8 MIDI controller at those precise times. I feel like this is possible with the MPC Live II, but I'm waiting for someone to tell me, "Yes! That is absolutely possible, and you should buy this beast, because it can do exactly what you're envisioning...and so much more!" 🙂 Anyone?

Thank you so much for your video, it solved some big mysteries for me :) BUT I have a big problem with the two Roland JU-06as that I use with my MPC. On the video, at 29'15 you say that it doesn't work very well with the D05. And since it doesn't work well with my Roland, I tell myself that you might have the solution!! So it's ok for program change, no problem. But every time a sequence starts, if the first note of the Juno is on the first beat, it is not played, but when the sequence starts again, it's ok. And it drives me CRAZY! Because it doesn't happen with other synths, everything works perfectly... Do you have the same problem? If yes, do you have the solution? Thank you very much

Need a bit more detail, are you triggering a drum sample with a certain keypress? Turn midi on that sample track off of in/auto if thats the case. Oh yeah, different patches are really different, if that's what you mean.

Has anyone found a way of controlling MIDI CC numbers live with the MPC on multiple external instruments simultaneously? My issue is that when i change the focus track to something other than the track i’m wanting to edit, CC numbers no longer send. This applies to both Q-Links and external midi controllers. If i try to use “Midi Control Mode”, the MPC either freezes or has the same behavior. Anyone else get this working?

Question: IF I have an external synth connected to the mpc via midi. and use the out from the synth to the in of the MPC and vice versa... and then transmit a program change from the synth while recording a track..does the MPC software record and play back those program changes? or... do I need to input the program change data via MSB / LSB/ P# as in many programs?

You, know, I've never recorded it live, but you for sure can automate program changes, its with the rest of the CC list, I believe. good question

I don’t own the MPC yet, this is my last piece of info I am trying to find out. I know, with my DAW I can record that data but it comes in as a sys ex event and when I convert that file to SMF format and insert it into my keyboard, that sys ex isn’t working and the program changes don’t happen. If, I insert a program change within the DAW then it works. Would be good for me if the MPC recorded the data as a program change and then I could use that exported file directly to my Kurzweil

@@CRV1958 I don't know if there's any work around, or something I haven't seen, but I'm inclined to say the modern MPC's don't record and play back sysex.
