Even though I'm using an MPC Live 2, most of this information applies to any of the modern MPC's running firmware version later than about 2.8 .
Hope it helps, let me know if I forgot anything, let me know if there's anything else you want to see.

Great video man! With the last update, you can now edit the Cc parameter s names in program edit page. It can make sens to have and save one midi program per gear with all the dedicated cc’s well named. Really usefull when you get a lot of automations in a project, or for qlink edit !

The MPC is the way to go if you want a “dawless” setup IMO. For me coming from Ableton it took some time to get used to the MPC workflow, but once it clicked it just made sense. There is a reason the OG MPCs were called the “MIDI Production Center.” Some may contend that the new MPCs couldn’t be considered dawless as they’re like a cut down DAW themselves. I dunno, but I’d like to see someone who expects an Ableton quality piano roll on the MPC touch screen use it and tell me the editing capabilities are even half as comparable. Maybe a half DAW lol? Still, it plays better with my entire studio (9 instruments + MPC itself) than if it were sequenced by Ableton/Arturia sequencers.
@JorbLovesGear
@JorbLovesGear 2 жыл бұрын
Moving from an MPC 1000, which I would never have called a daw, I agree this is way closer. Defining why is kinda hard though! Maybe the built in effects, maybe exciting what's recorded, maybe powerful sample editing 🤷
@BkuBrown
@BkuBrown Жыл бұрын
As long as they keep AWAY from things like spectral analysers etc notice all the plugins and tech still forces you into using your ears over any visual mixing. With the piano roll its touchscreen but im sure we all are performing our midi and using the touchscreen to make later adjustments rather than just painting directly into the piano roll like many a DAW user. Please dont burst my DAWless bubble by telling me this is a DAW🤣👀🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is a great example of a setup with multiple hardware devices, but you've used 1 software delay effect and you are monitoring the cpu performance already? Are those software fx and instruments that heavy on the arm processors?

Thanks for the video. very helpful. I got a Tascam Model 12 as MPC One USB hub expansion (from 6 to 10 audio tracks) but I'm finding I like using the Model 12 as the controller over the MPC One now. Just started doing this. Prefer old school audio routing and control of guitar tracks over menu diving, I guess. I'm thinking I'll get the MPC One to control the Korg and Moog modules & the M12 as overall control of timing. Keep latency down. Thoughts?

I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase the MPC Live II, but after searching far and wide for answers on KZbin and the interwebs, this video came the closest to showing me that what I'm envisioning I'd like to use it for. My idea was to use it for live shows to program MIDI beats on, but to also use it as a PC and CC MIDI controller that could trigger those commands out to my Headrush Looperboard, my Quad Cortex, and TC Helicon Voicelive (to send MIDI notes to the harmonizer) at precise moments in a sequence (song), so that I don't have to worry so much about triggering those MIDI PC and CC commands on my Morningstar MC8 MIDI controller at those precise times. I feel like this is possible with the MPC Live II, but I'm waiting for someone to tell me, "Yes! That is absolutely possible, and you should buy this beast, because it can do exactly what you're envisioning...and so much more!" 🙂 Anyone?

Hey man, love your channel, very genuine, I’m torn between a akai force and mpc live 2. I’ve had the force and I love the quick and easy clip launching. I don’t really sample much just midi sequencing. Each their own hardware synth I like to play in using their own keyboards and loop the midi into diff sequences and launch them together like Ableton/force. But I really love how the mpc live has the battery, speaker, and drive. I never actually get much time in my studio so I’m hoping with the battery and speakers I could essentially make backing tracks while I’m not in the studio and then have something for when I do get a chance to go in.. decisions 🤔 $1k decisions 🤔 what I know and love or what could possibly be better or possible be worse?

Is there an easy way to take a recorded midi track and quickly convert it to an audio loop? I have my Arturia Microfreak plugged in usb and it records and works great, however I want to easily "commit" that loop and move on. Ive tried the bouncing to sample, bouncing sequence and all that and nothing seems to work. I've resorted to soloing the midi track and resampling it into the sample section but this just seems like way too much work. I just want to take that midi loop and get it to audio fast to keep the flow rockin!

Thanx, great tutorial! Would the MPC record the filter cutoff (as CC automation) from the Deepmind via midi or usb together with the notes without setting up a Qlink for that CC first? Ableton does this without any special setup, it just records what it gets as an input from the external midi instrument (notes, cc control changes, ...) and than u can edit that automation data in the editor. Thanx
@JorbLovesGear
@JorbLovesGear Жыл бұрын
You need to make sure DM is set to send out CC on the right channel, and not NRPN but yeah, you can record CC. And if its going back out to the Deepmind, you're gucci. I normally would not send CC out of a local-off master controller though, to avoid recording CC when i didnt want to , or sending a random CC to any of my other sound sources

wait putting the mpc to the side is actually a good idea, im thinking of upgrading to live 2 or replacing with a dedicated midi sequencer, the mpc one im having has a couple of bad compromises. like just stupid stuff. like volume control on the back and smaller less responsive pads. plus you get the rc in, another qlink, more ram and hopefully less qlink lag.

Has anyone found a way of controlling MIDI CC numbers live with the MPC on multiple external instruments simultaneously? My issue is that when i change the focus track to something other than the track i’m wanting to edit, CC numbers no longer send. This applies to both Q-Links and external midi controllers. If i try to use “Midi Control Mode”, the MPC either freezes or has the same behavior. Anyone else get this working?

Thank you so much for your video, it solved some big mysteries for me :) BUT I have a big problem with the two Roland JU-06as that I use with my MPC. On the video, at 29'15 you say that it doesn't work very well with the D05. And since it doesn't work well with my Roland, I tell myself that you might have the solution!! So it's ok for program change, no problem. But every time a sequence starts, if the first note of the Juno is on the first beat, it is not played, but when the sequence starts again, it's ok. And it drives me CRAZY! Because it doesn't happen with other synths, everything works perfectly... Do you have the same problem? If yes, do you have the solution? Thank you very much

Hi, new to the world of synthetic and sequencing. I have MPC Beats software, but wondering if this would still work using the software as a MIDI DAW to hook up a Roland A300 Pro as my controller with a couple of hardware synthesizers and sequencers? I have an SE-02 and a TR6S on the way.

A lot of the principles will be the same / similar, I'm really not familiar with the software specifics though. Big thing, you can use midi to control external stuff all the same

@JorbLovesGear Thanks for the reply. I am still messing around with the connections. I just received the TR-6S last night and had fun playing around with it. It a really powerful drum machine/sequencer. I am using your video as a sort of guide. Will keep youbposted. Thanks again for all of this valuable information.

Am I able to import midi patterns I’ve written on my PC DAW to MPC and have my hardware connect to MPC to play it back?

Definitely can use it to play back midi, but something I've done myself

Just something I cooked up! Probably started as one of my juno or PolySix presets, I've got videos on each.

can you sample into the mpc one in controller mode or do you have to use your audio interface.

Have everything on the same channel? Sending midi out of the synth into the mpc, AND out of the mpc in to the synth?

I’m wondering how you get the separate stems into the daw after? Do you just have to go and bounce everything individually?

Cc74 on mpc is set to "send control 5". How can I change this? My synth requires cc74 for cutoff. Thanks.

CC74 is CC74, no matter what that label says. So if your synth needs it for cutoff, send that out of the MPC

I was hoping that I could play samples on the MPC One via CV from my modular but I think the MPC has CV outputs only. Any suggestions how I might achieve this?
@JorbLovesGear
@JorbLovesGear Жыл бұрын
this is difficult, you'd need to convert CV into midi some module, or use a modular sequencer that spits out midi.

I have an audio track question. I can Record midi no problem, but I’m having issues with audio recording. After it records it automatically goes to “dub” and won’t record when it loops. Is there a way to change it so it records like midi?

I returned my MPC - It felt like I was working on a computer with a DAW half the time - with a little iPad-sized touch screen. Not my cup O' tea. The new gen of grooveboxes are focused on bringing AI into the mix, lots of tweaking, and designed for speed of workflow to allow for creativity to flow. Although the MPC is a beast, its a dinosaur in this respect.
Let's Talk About Behringer.
