Important note: do not fill the water that high in a moka pot. That little "nut"(or safety valve) on the side is to release pressure if the pressure gets too high. If for some reason the inside gets sealed(and the safety valve is covered), your moka pot could end up in the ceiling.

For the last one, the cafetera (italian moka pot), you arent supposed to cover that valve with water. That is the pressure release valve and covering it with water can cause the pot to explode when the pressure builds inside. This can also happen if you have too fine a ground and it clogs, or if you have hard water and calcium builds up clogging it. Its rare but it does happen and can seriously injure someone if they are near the stove. You want to fill until just below the valve.

I have this maker, and was thinking the same thing. Just below that release valve. I like pack the filter as full as possible, then heat it with the lid open, watch for it to just seep the first teaspoon or so, poor that into your mug and replace on the heat. While it is finishing brewing, you mix the very thick coffee you got from the beginning and mix that with your sugar, it makes a thick paste. Add the finished coffee to that when it is done brewing and stir. It will be basically an espresso.

Maumau, I strongly encourage you to invest in a grinder instead of using pre-ground coffee. It will completely change the game and elevate your coffees to the next level. Coffee freshness dies in about 10ish minutes once ground.

As an Italian man I feel incredibly entitled about making coffee: 1) You're absolutely butchering the espresso, I cried a single tear on my big mustache while a very sad faint "mammamia" slipped out my mouth 2) The stove top coffee is actually called "moka" and it's Italian. Southern Italian people brought it to South America and it's what every Italian nonna uses to make coffee. Other than that your moka coffee was pretty spot on. I have two espresso machines at home and 3 mokas and I can show you the way to make a perfect kick-ass espresso ("corto" or "lungo") which uses both heat and pressure to give you the perfect coffee aroma. Cheers from pizza pasta land

@nora22000 - I used to work for a roaster, and still use a French Press every day. I’ll mostly agree with you- dark to medium roast coffees all work well with a French Press. Light roast coffees tend to prefer other methods to get the most out of them. Chemex, the Hario V70, and other similar pourovers get better results from light roast coffees than a French Press will!

@kamikazepiloot100 5 жыл бұрын
@@nora22000 I recommend a coarser grind for a smooth and full body experience. That's imo the entire opinion for the French press. I have tried different grinding settings and I found that espresso grinds will result in bitter coffee since the hot water burns the finer grounds immediately. Coarse grinds hold up better.
@PastorSutton
@PastorSutton 5 жыл бұрын
@@kamikazepiloot100 the grind is directly related to the time water is in contact with the grounds. The longer the coarser. So yes, French Press coarsest grind. Espresso is usually finest grind. Drip, perc, etc between accordingly.

Aeropress represent! You should use "the inverted method." If you do it upside down you keep it all in the cylinder until you're ready to press. It gives you better control. V60 is also great! Edit: the "Cuban" one is usually called a moka pot. You should start that one with hot water too, otherwise you're heating the coffee grounds too much before the boil.
