I will sound like an old fart here but here it goes anyway (this movie brings it all back) I was 18 when this came out and out on my own. Courting a girl and we got our own place (still married to that Girl). Back then you could go out on your own at 18, get a job, any job and people would train you if they liked you. Same with getting an apartment. In Florida, we got a duplex for 320/month and the landlord made his decision based on how his impression of you, you were given a chance Groceries were cheap, utilities reasonable and you could even go out to dinner a couple of times a week. We lived like kings and queens. We had working class jobs. I drove a lumber truck, she was a clerk at a bank, we thought we were rich and tomorrow looked like it was all gonna work out fine. Well, things didn't work out so great for society, and I wish the kids today could experience early adulthood the way we did...but you still got chances and there is still good life to be lived, just remembering is all.

+1060michaelg That was when america still had factories and made their own cars. I wish I had been an adult then. My town had two small garment factories, a company that made valves for oil wells, and a lumber company that made furniture parts. It was a town of about 2,500 people. The garment factories and manufacturing plant closed in the 80's. No new companies to replace them. The lumber company closed in town. The furniture is assembled in China. Most of the people in town worked for one of those companies.

+1060michaelg I was 11 years-old when my dad took us to the drive-in to see this. Those were the days when we would sit out on a blanket in front of the car and could hear teenagers like you making out in their cars...lol. People can say what they want about Sondra Locke singing in this movie, but I like her a whole lot better than any country singer today, and she wasn't known as a country singer, but Beverly D'Angelo, that woman could sing. Too bad she didn't for this movie. I missed out on the golden era, being just too young to appreciate it, but I still remember the end of it.

1978: Philo comes back to the yard, mouth kisses the woman in the office, clocks out, goes to Carter’s Place to grab a beer, gets into a fight with Big Al, who got a weed up his ass about sharing peanuts, where he proceeds to kick Big Al’s ass. Philo drives home and has a good weekend. Big Al learns to keep his mouth shut and not start shit. 2019: The owner of Carter’s Place calls the police during the bar fight. Several patrons take out their smartphones and record the fight, later posting it to Facebook and KZbin. Philo is arrested for aggravated assault on Big Al after the responding officers find Big Al lying unconscious in front of the jukebox with bruising all over his face. Thankfully, due to bail reform in California, Philo is released on his own recognizance after being arraigned on the charges. Monday morning, while proceeding to tell his boss about the arrest on Friday afternoon, he’s summoned to Human Resources, where a police officer is waiting for him and takes him into custody for sexual assault for mouth kissing the woman in the office, who realized that she’s suddenly offended by that kiss and decides she wants to press charges. Philo is fired from his job, cuts a plea deal on both the agg assault charge and sexual assault charge and does 18 months in Chino, and is required to register as a sex offender upon his release and is now a convicted felon. Finally, Big Al sues Philo for medical bills and damages after he finds that the beating Philo gave him is now causing headaches, dizziness, vision problems, and chronic pain, which forced him to go out on permanent disability. Big Al also sues Carter’s Place and settles with their insurer for knowingly serving him alcohol, despite the fact that he becomes belligerent and violent when he drinks, and for failing to protect him against Philo.

This movie is such a classic! You don't see simple comedies like this anymore. So much dry humor and hilarious sequences with Clyde, randomly kissing people, flipping the bird LOL! The black widows wouldn't say the funniest things, what made them hilarious was just their stupidity. Every Which Way But Loose; A+ :D LONG LIVE PHILO BEDDOE

Theres something incredibly melancholic about this movie.. a childhood friend you check in on year after year, and by an by it’s getting to the point there are only a few main cast left, 3 around 90ish. For many who were kids in this era this was the right movie at the right time and encapsulates the essence of those days, where the world was much smaller and times where far less complicated. Even within 10 years of this movie things had changed dramatically. Things change, but man it was a great time to be alive.

My parents took us to see this at the drive in when it came out. I miss the old America. Clint Eastwood is such a great actor. Started out doing westerns and branched out to Philo Beddoe to Dirty Harry.

On this day in 1979 {February 24th} Eddie Rabbitt performed "Every Which Way But Loose" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #43 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, four weeks later it would peak at #30 {for 1 week} and it spent eleven weeks on the Top 100... And on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart it was in it's third of three weeks at #1... In addition it was his third of fourth straight #1 records on the Hot Country Singles chart, started with "You Don't Love Me Anymore", follow by "I Just Want to Love You", then this one, and final "Suspicions"... Between 1974 and 1991 the Brooklyn, NY native had forty-one records on the Hot Country Singles chart, thirty-four made the Top 10 with sixteen* reaching #1... Two of his forty-one charted records were duets, one each with Crystal Gayle and Juice Newton... Edward Thomas Rabbitt passed away at the young age of 56 on May 7th, 1998... May he R.I.P. * He just missed having three more #1 records when "I Can 't Help Myself" {1977}, "Hearts On Fire" {1978}, and "I Don't Know Where To Start" {1982}, all peaked at #2...
