The order in which Playmaker banishes the Link monsters via their attributes (except for wind and fire) represent the order the Ignis were killed: Earth (Transcode Talker), Aqua (Splash Mage), Flame (Proxy F Magician), Windy (Exslayer), Lightning (Light Cross), Ai (Decode Talker). The summon of Darkfluid is always interesting to see. From Darkness, a Light shines from a Water that falls to Earth to create a Wind of Fire. It’s such a shame he might not do Sevens - it would be so easy since their ace monsters were obvious. I don’t want to see Sam as a possible Rush hater but the fact he says “until we get another master duel” makes me think either he dislikes Sevens or isn’t a fan of Rush. 4:56 Basically what happened to Ai was the opposite of every human character in Vrains. A couple of our characters started off being people who had lost control of their lives in some way and Ai appearing before them wound up being the key to them taking back their lives. By the end of the series, everyone is slowly moving on from their pasts that has haunted them but the cost was Ai losing everything he tried to protect starting with losing the Cyberse World no thanks in small part to a betrayal amongst them and then it lead to the death of his fellow Ignis too leaving only him left with nothing. It also didn't help that he realized he alone can't bring the possibility Revolver had on him. Ai's final goal sadly was an elaborate means for him to die. The irony is our main characters helped Ai protect what he has which is connected to what haunts them allowing them to make peace with their lives, but it ends with him losing everything because of forces he couldn't control and in exchange is now the one who is broken and resolved to do what Revolver had tried to do at the start and it's to kill himself and end the Ignis by his own hand. 7:33 Yusaku's lack of emotional attachment to Decode Talker or Firewall Dragon pretty much points towards the effects of him losing his childhood and the Cyberse deck he gained too was a means to an end for him. Actually Yusaku also finished his last duel against Revolver with Decode Talker. So in a sense that would be his ace. The thing with Yusaku is dueling is a means to an end to uncover and seek out the truth to his ruined life so he can finally find peace. You can say Accesscode Talker by his name is Playmaker letting people into his lives and it getting 1000 ATK for every link marker on a monster is the bonds it shares with the link monsters that brought it to the field meaning he has found peace and can live once more. 11:30 Pandor is an AI much like an Ignis with limited free will and you could say Revolver created a sister deck for the Topolic Link monsters to better compliment them and for Pandor. Too bad there was never a Topologina Nabee. 12:24 Fun fact, the whole theme of the Salamangreats and Reincarnation Link summoning plays to how Takeru's Ignis Flame found and helped him stand up and rise again when he was at his lowest which played well to the card Takeru had at the time being PHOENIX Gearfried a Gemini monster that is gains effects when summoned again. Like a phoenix Takeru rose up from the ashes burning brighter than he ever had. Takeru's parents when he was a kid went searching for him and lost their lives in the process and thus became a delinquent unable and it's thanks to Flame he was able to stand tall again. He was brought into the fold hearing of Playmaker's exploits. 13:34 Correction, Holy Angel is a Link 2 and Aoi's transition from angel to maiden symbolizes her maturity as the series progressed. Aoi played off as an innocent girl looking for love and enjoyment to then get taken advantage of by Spectre. Later she learned the truth and motives of Playmaker and she began to think about what she wants to do. Aoi's Blue Angel persona plays to the kind of person she wants to be while hiding her more reserved and quiet self from others. She changed to a Blue Girl persona to fit with her teaming up on missions with Ghost Girl like a difference in personality between her idol self and her real self. Her Blue Maiden persona is when she meets with Aqua and wanting to help the one friend she made in her childhood that brought light to her life. 15:30 Aqua gave Earth the Crystal Heart card for a while before Go crushed Earth who was then dissected leading to Go having Crystal Heart being given Earth's data before Aqua got back that card along with Earth's data. It took me so long to realize how Bohman got Earth's data along with Aqua's and it's because of Crystal Heart card. 19:35 Go Onizuka had a crisis of confidence at the second arc after where he was losing his place in dueling rankings to Playmaker and Blue Angel. He left the wrestling ring and worked as a merc for SOL tech for a while to beat Playmaker and regain his glory. He goes as far as going down the deep end where he has an AI chip implanted into his brain to boost his skills. After being crushed and waking up at a hospital he understood what really mattered to him and returned to playing his Gouki deck. 21:00 Ai during his free time farted around with Robopi and gave it intelligence and emotions. Roboppi eventually opened the door to helping Ai and Yusaki beat Bohman became a fulfledged sentient AI and Ai's sidekick in his elaborate suicide plot. Robopi's AI's sentient went further like an epiphany type of thing leading to him going nuts during his duel against Soulburner. 21:38 Haru and Bohman were new gen Ignis solely created by Lightning to enact his scheme against humanity and used them to destroy the Cyberse World that Ai went so far as losing his limbs to protect. I WANT TO PLAY THE HYDRADRIVE ARCHETYPE SO BAD! The next best thing so far was Five Headed Link Dragon which I haven't played for a long time ever since I started building newer decks. Judgement Arrows was a link spell Lightning made that he and his new gen Ignis played too. Ai stole Judgement Arrows which he played to show everyone his seriousness. Yeah I only watched every episode once too but Yu-Gi-Oh has always stuck in my mind and Vrains's characters stuck out to me the most because on top of dealing with sentient AI and hackers, it's theme after thinking about it is more towards facing your nightmares to become better people.

Fun fact; When Gore/George was using his Dinowrestler deck in Season 2, he had 2 bounty hunter lackeys with him that both duelled Playmaker whilst Soulburner was duelling Blood Shepard (which was his dubbed and subbed name), and these two bounty hunters both used Gore's "Gouki" deck. In Season 2, when the other Extra Deck methods returned, Yusaku began using alternate versions of Firewall Dragon to make up for the loss of the real deal. The Fusion form (Cyberse Clock Dragon) was the most prominent, so that might be a runner up for Ace Card status! (It needs Clock Wyvern and a Link Monster as Fusion materials, and it’s effect is “When this card is Fusion Summoned: You can send cards from the top of your Deck to the GY, equal to the total Link Rating of the materials used for this card's Fusion Summon, and if you do, until the end of the next turn, other monsters you control cannot attack, also this card gains 1000 ATK for each card sent to the GY by this effect. While you control a Link Monster(s), your opponent's monsters cannot target other monsters you control for attacks, also your opponent cannot target other monsters you control with card effects. If this Fusion Summoned card you control is sent to your GY by an opponent's card effect: You can add 1 Spell from your Deck to your hand.”)

Rush Duel is a bit unambiguous with what a character's ace monster is since the decks are more simple, although they also throw around verbiage of "new Ace" in the writing commonly, mainly just because Japanese use the term "ace monster" in a slightly different way than how we use it in the English community. I think the only possible questionable options would be some of the secondary characters who use multiple boss monsters at the same time like Phaser, or figuring out something like Romin, whose character development has her shift her strategy to center on a new card even if she still uses her old boss monster.

I think the reason why Firewall was rarely used especially during the first season, is because at the time it was mostly reserved for the master duels, which were considered the real big duels in the show. And in the first season I believe Yusaku dueled in 4 and summoned Firewall in 3. Firewall was showcased as his ace in the first 2 master duels, then it got limited on the ban list halfway through season 1, then in the final master duel of season 1 Firewall stopped being treated as his main ace and the honor of delivering the finishing blow was given to Decode. Honestly, they got really lucky that they planned on making Firewall a monster he would only use on special occasions during the early stages of Vrains, so it was easy to write it out of the show and had another monster to fall back on as his "ace", the logical choice being Decode.

I’d argue that decode talker symbolizes Playmaker really well. It’s effect of tributing other monsters symbolizes how Playmaker doesn’t care about using others (primarily AI as a hostage) to further his goal. And then the decode talker evolution transcode talker also symbolizes how much Playmaker has grown throughout the series (him banishing monsters with attributes in order of the ignis dying also symbolizing him moving on from the past). In other words, I thinks it’s clear decode talker is Playmaker’s ace as it symbolizes him. EDIT: Topologic bomber dragon (which is clearly not revolver’s ace) being acquired in the same duel as firewall dragon imo further proofs that firewall dragon was never planned to be the main Playmaker ace.
@junshiroi19528 ай бұрын
i think you're forgetting that topologic bomber dragon was obtained through storm access. a skill that allows its users to obtain monsters in desperate (when their LP is 1000 or less) situations. due to this your proof weakens, and it further falls apart due to the mere existence of firewall dragon darkfluid. the existence of darkfluid means firewall was supposed to stick around for much much longer. hell, and i'm pretty damn sure that firewall dragon singularity was already in the works, but was pushed to the side due to firewall's banning and the refocusing on decode talker.
@obsessivefanboy78 ай бұрын
No, Firewall was always planned to be the ace monster. Even during the early stages of the anime when it came to promoting the show, sure they put Decode with Yusaku a couple times but when they put all the protagonists from the previous shows and their aces, Konami would always go with Firewall as Yusaku's ace instead of Decode, especially during the official OCG tournaments and other related live events. Plus that first master duel also heavily indicated that Firewall would be his ace moving forward so it could parallel his rival's ace, just like the Stardust Dragon vs Red Dragon Archfiend rivalry. But of course it got limited halfway during the first season so it started to appear less in the show and then was dropped entirely after it was banned.

You are forgetting 7s' Ace monsters, so this isn't the last one. I don't agree with them "disappearing" Firewall Dragon simply cause the real world card game banned version. That'd be like if they were told the real world ban list and used that for Battle City. Also, funny enough with the timing of the video, cause the last event that just ended in Duel Links was a Vrains centered one about Ghost Gal. Also, her Altergeist deck in DL is real good.

I actually kinda like that playmaker is mostly emotionless to his cards as he was emotionless throughout basically the entire show which made the moments that he did get emotional mean a lot more, it also fits with his backstory of essentially being programed to only care about winning so his ace monster is just the strongest one he has access to. 1:06 also is it just me or does yuyas hand look really weird in this picture, something about it just doesn't seem right.

To me it was the opposite, we had a protagonist who didn't like duels but kept using them as weapons, and never enjoyed them. Also it's never explained why PM used real cards, one of the plotpoints in the Hanoi arc was that most people played with digital cards but PM didn't (so they tried to infect people who used real cards with a virus) but if PM doesn't have attach to his cards, why use the real ones instead of digital ones?

The best argument I think is that AI gave him the cards (before meeting him, although I don't remember if that happens in the real world or Link Vrains) but when they met AI they could just make the cards digital so I don't see a reason for PM to keep using real ones

I thought Decode Talker Heatsoul was amazing when they created it!!!! I do hope when continuing the Cyberse archetype, they create more combined forms of Decode Talker with other anime characters' monsters!!! Since they formed Decode Heatsoul from Soulburner's Link 3 Cyberse Heatleo, maybe they could do it with other Link-3 Aces from characters like Blue Maiden, Revolver, etc. {Blue Maiden's Link-3 Cyberse Ace is Marincess Marbled Rock, so Decode Talker Submerge (due to the naming for Decode Heatsoul being based off of the anime attack name of Heatleo; we use it again with Marbled Rock). The only Link-3 Cyberse of Revolver's that matches the theme would be Topologic Trisbaena (which in interesting trivia that Trisbaena actually mirrors Decode Talker), so Decode Talker Migration Force (I know that attack is the effect name & not the attack name, but it is what Trisbaena is known

Awesome video, although the link 3 theme for ace cards is cool, for Spectre I think Link-4 Sunavalong Dryantriay is more fitting to be his ace, especially cause it has a very ace-card ish effect where it can gain attack equal to all the plant monsters it points to, and fetches a sunavalon spell/trap on summon.

7:30, I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that, within the first 10 episodes of Vrains or so, Playmaker states that he doesn't like dueling, so that's likely why you don't see any emotional attachment. I don't know how the dub handles it, but he does state that he only duels to get revenge on Hanoi early on.

I think code talker is to as Yusaku as warrirlors to Yusei, a useful supply of monsters to support their ace, but I think other than banlist shenanigans, decode talker is his most important. It is his first boss monster, and it represent the Dark Ignis, which was vital to Ai and Yusaku. It was so important that Ai needed his own version.

Firewall Dragon was so overpowered that even I could tell it was overpowered, and I can't often tell when that's the case, even with super-popular cards like Infinite Impermanence... Also, I remember reading somewhere that the guy scripting the duels hated Soulburner, because his deck was so powerful that it was difficult for him to write interesting duels with Soulburner. It was just too hard to put him in situations where he could realistically be about to lose.

Another thing that make Firewall Dragon iffy as the protagonist ace monster is that all of the ones before it need at the very least only two cards to be summoned in the most standard way possible. Dark Magician and Neos need 2 monsters to be tribute summoned. Stardust Dragon needs 1 tuner and at least 1 non-tuner. (This also applies to Junk Warrior and Stardust Spark Dragon.) Utopia needs 2 level 4 monsters. Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon needs 2 cards on the Pendulum Scale to be pendulum summoned, or 2 monsters to be tribute summoned. (This also applies to Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon.) But Firewall Dragon is a Link-4 Link Monsters. Technically, you can still summon it with two cards: either a Link-3 + any monster or 2 Link-2 monsters. But those link monsters will have to be summoned in the first place so you're technically not really using only 2 cards to summon Firewall Dragon. If you replace Firewall Dragon with Decode Talker, the same problem applies. You can't use only 2 cards to summon it. (And I guess this problem also applies to Flame WIngman and Terra Firma. They need Polymerization and 2 fusion materials, totalling 3 cards.)

I mean the way I see it with Yusaku's aces... It's like with Yusei (which coincidentally, he's his parallel) and his ace monsters: Code Talker = Junk Warrior Decode Talker = Stardust Dragon Firewall Dragon = Shooting Star Dragon
@juliuswatcher11578 ай бұрын
Decode Talker's equal was Junk Warrior while Firewall Dragon's was Stardust Dragon. Code Talker doesn't fit since it has only 1300 ATK, if we consider tuners as lower forms, then he would be the match for Yusei Junk Synchron, however, Playmaker only used it once. Shooting Star Dragon and Quasar matches would be Darkfluid and Accesscode, though I am not sure which: Darkfluid effect is way closer to Quasar overall power by the number of monsters in the GY/ used for it summons, and both negate effects while allowing multiple attacks; Accesscode allows many destrcutios as many Links you banished just as Shooting Star gains as many attacks as tuners excavated from the deck. However, both Accesscode and Quasar when destroyed were part of plays that brought back the lower Aces (Decode and Shooting Star respectively) and were only used once each in the anime and during the final duel, while Darkfluind and Shooting Star were used more times and also share the multiple attacks effect. So I think on that last one is subjective.

I always thought the reason Konami doesn't print a lot of the Archetypes in Vrains is that a lot of them wouldn't be that good/playable in the real world TCG (I think another KZbinr dissected each archetype, especially Hydradrives). If Konami were to print them they'd have to be really powerful and that risks another "Pre-Errata Firewall Dragon" situation.

VRAINS did a really good job (maybe TOO good) of giving the anime characters well-built decks. It's likely my favorite YGO series, and some of the aces/decks that were used were pretty solid representations of their characters (although the Signer Dragons in 5D's probably did it better - but maybe with more mixed results in playability). FWIW, I think Yusaku does "care," to some extent, about what the cards represent - he complicated his duel against Zaizen just because he didn't want to destroy the monsters representing Akira and Aoi/Skye. Between Firewall and Decode, I think he became more attached to Decode, as he reminisces about it with Ai in the final duel (though it was probably written that way because of the banlist). As for Revolver/Varis, it's kind of interesting that Bomber has the more rival-esque effect (especially similar to Jack's Red Dragon Archfiend, even) but was representative of using what the Ignis had against them - when Borreload was the "actual" rival ace but had an effect that let you use what the opponent had against them.
