What i dont understand is what or how do the coins appear in the optimism metamask wallet ? for example if there is no contract address for them initially from ETH, we bridge them over but how do they then appear in the optimism wallet ? metamask asks you to import tokens but all i would have is its previous ETH address ? where do i get the answer to this please ?

Im new to this so just asking can i use the optimism network to do a transaction like if i want to buy something in the eth network or do i have to convert my money back to eth network to do so ? if i have to convert my money 1st to buy something then it would not make sense to do it

Best way conversion to ETH then move eth via bridge back to etherium mainet but so many are doing it right now there’s no liquidity

It makes sense if you're a trader and plan to trade back and forth. If it's a one and done... then it's not going to save much.

There will always be a gas fee to swap over from ETH but the majority of people will do more than 1 transaction so the long term benefits would be better. As a side note, I always claim all of my gas fees as an expense when doing my tax (especially if the govt. is taxing you on your profits).

Not exactly. It should actually make the rollup more efficient if it's rolling up more transactions.

just as i tought i could use this to swap the like of deku and reducing my gas fee. only to find out there were limited token i could swap for. to withdraw back to the mainnet cost as much as it did to deposit on the op network. this was a big waste of money if you ask me

lol so you pay 71USD gas plus 4.71 to use Optimism against 73USD just using Uniswap in the first place? So this is only useful if you intend to do multiple swaps and keep a reserve rather than adhoc, thanks for the overview

newb here. quick question regarding qualifying for the potential optimism airdrop. is it possible to send a coin other than ETH to my metamask, like USDC or something else and use USDC to do some trades on optimism, to qualify for aidrop? or does it have to be ETH? im trying to avoid paying eth gas fees if possible...

you will always spend eth for gas any time you interact with the blockchain, no matter what token you are transferring or trading.

Im not expert but i think if you withdraw your money to a different network you would lose it ( ex your wallet is in yhe eth network but in the transaction page you choose to send it through the binance network then it will be lost bc your wallet is in the eth network not the binance network) i hope it just delayed though

If you think about it, you have the one fat transaction fee.. If you leave it all in the layer two, you can buy, sell & trade with the lower fees. 👍
