It was a great thrill to work on Boardwalk Empire for 5 years ! They had me write this intro for the dancing girls to enter and then, it's the Fletcher Henderson arrangement transcribed from 1924. We took Louis Armstrong's solo and harmonized it for the brass. Come to Iguana [ 240 W.54th St NYC] on a Monday or Tuesday night and we will play this for you !

+Eclipz Medea Forgot to mention this is my favorite Boardwalk Empire song & scene of all time. I still get chills watching it imagining being in that wonderful club hearing such swinging music.

+Eclipz Medea Not to say that I don't also love the version above if they are two separate versions. The one on the CD just seems different to me than the vocal version used in the series. I hope you reply because I'm gonna go nuts until I can figure out whether it's just tempo & mixing or a different arrangement. The first link just seems to have a stronger rhythm & a different one. Is the vocal version in the series available for download purchase anywhere? If not that is a shame.

the music editors made many changes on the music we recorded (drastic cuts, moving sections of the music around, adding new intros they wanted ! ) To add to that, we were asked to record selections with different tempos, different keys (when singers were added) too . It's kinda hard to remember what happened back then a few years ago . I believe the version is on Boardwalk Empire Volume 3 best wishes, Vince Giordano

+bixlives Thanks so much Vince for taking the time to reply. What you describe sounds exhausting but the end result is gold. The patience required must be immense! I can understand that the music editors may have needed the music to better match the vocal range/style/tempo of the singer too. I had a hunch that the difference in the versions was due to tempo/key changes instead of being a different arrangement but didn't want to seem presumptuous. I love them both! As someone who rarely watches mainstream TV, I come late to this awesome soundtrack & series. I just discovered that you won a Grammy for the compilation. It's just awesome that a new generation can appreciate such amazing music from an era that still has much to tell us! And you helped make that happen. Congratulations & my best regards. - Dean

One can never really appreciate what it was like in that era...but I'm sure that This is close musically as you're going to get.... unless you can build a time machine.... Oh ... I'm from England too
