Jordan Peele's Nope has the critics raving. No doubt this movie is good, but it's not perfect and I'm here to explain why.

In the movie it actually was explained in a short sentence why it hates forgien objects. They say that the horse and the ribbons are clogging up it's windpipes because like us human eating plastic it can't digest it properly unlike humans. I think maybe you could have been looking into the alien stuff too far in my opinion but that's just me.

Fair points. I was looking into the alien stuff that deep because there was a lot of implied deeper meaning to it, this wasn't just your standard UFO

I agree with you that the scenes with Steven Yeun’s character were probably the best in the movie but I feel that the inclusion of his storyline and the scenes explaining his trauma (while great) didn’t really fit with the movie itself aside from reinforcing the central themes of mistreatment and exploitation. It felt like Jordan Peele kind of had a seperate idea for a short film or something and just chose to incorporate it into the film. Still I enjoyed watching Nope and while the ending and beginning kind of drag on a bit it was still a fairly entertaining movie.

i know jordan peele does this a lot and he’s normally good at a split tone. but the constant tonal shifting just kinda makes it hard for me to get really invested in the serious moments. it might just be me, but he still does phenomenal work

I enjoyed Nope. I think it had some parts that could have been left out entirely, but that scene with Steven Yuen's character as a child witnessing that horrific act of cruelty stuck me for a long time. Especially since you can see some of it based on the real life tragedy of Travis the chimp and the woman he attacked and ripped parts of her face off. I remember that irl and when it was all over the news. I like the message of this movie a lot, but I can see why most didn't like the ending. The alien design is really cool though.

The weird inclusion of TMZ was incredibly jarring, I was excited that it would be some other alien hunter but it was instead a really out of place weird joke section. Like WHAT, why did he decide to put that in and kill all the tension, taking you out the film completely

I interpreted that as intentionally immersion-breaking surrealism; what better way to point out the ridiculousness of our consumer culture than shoehorning it in, in a ridiculously blatant way? I appreciate that Jordan Peele can code-switch between nuanced hints (as he did masterfully in Get Out) and the sledgehammer approach to comedy that he honed on MADtv and Key & Peele. That said, balance and timing matter for tone switches, and not every tone switch will be everyone’s cup of tea. One of my cinematic hot takes (contrary to that of many late 80s / early 90s kids) is that the Home Alone films, while they have their moments, are not actually good films… because of jarring tonal shifts and their predilection to trying to be all things for all people. Funny, scary, adventurous, sentimental… nah, Chris Columbus overrated as a director… the Harry Potter films also improved once he stopped directing lol.

I believe peele once said he got a lot of his ideas from smoking weed. Now, i wouldn't care about that fact, were it not for the fact all of peeles movies have had some kind of flaw that overwrites most of its better parts, not to mention how abrasive his real world character is. When your movie stops being about entertaining others, and instead nagging them about some underlying message, it becomes a chore to sit through unless you are smart enough to make the message itself as entertaining or thought provoking as if the movie lacked it. I personally haven't given peeles work any kind of attention after finding out how much of a d*ckhead he is, putting it lightly. And from all the reviews I've seen on this film, it's just another of his I'll skip in favor of something made to entertain the audience, not spoon feed them a political message. I did enjoy this video though, keep up the fine work.
@Howesenberg
@Howesenberg Жыл бұрын
I'm unfamiliar with most of his background aside from the occasional Keene and Peele clips (still love him sweating nervously about his browsing history) As I too pointed out in my video I definitely picked up on the messages being a priority over the entertainment in some parts of Nope, I'm still going to check out 'Get Out' and maybe this will either strengthen my existing opinion of his art or challenge it. Thanks for your comment!
@a_loyal_kiwi88

@@Howesenberg Of all his films, i will admit "Get Out" is the most watchable, because unlike his newer films the underlying message can be ignored if you are going in blind, and only really becomes apparent once you get his own take on the film (which takes away from its entertainment factor imo). I enjoy key and peele aswell, I was quite saddened to find out peeles success had gone to his head, and he had become so... I'll say controversial.

The funny thing was that they had zero safety precautions while there a 200 pound smart chimp that could easily outweigh and out power the children and most adults. Even if this takes place in 1998 (which is not long ago ) They should realize that Maybe having an easily aggravated super strong chimp near children and flashing lights is not the best idea.

I agree with you. I felt the same way as you and your friend did. Having to explain this to your audience makes it clear that only fan boys would not agree with your views. It seems like other reviews out there are all the fan boys themed reviews of this director (Jordan Peele) and has nothing to do with what the movie itself is. Made me feel sad. "Logan Paul's NOPE Review" is the best I have heard so far about this movie.

I just read Logan Paul's review, aside from the points he made I'm actually surprised to see him critique a movie and the responses seem to want to deny him the right to do so purely because he's made some mistakes in the past. As much as I don't like the guy and his content, I would always defend his right to critique a movie. I'm actually tempted to make a video reacting to his points.

I also really hated how the old dude sacrificed himself AFTER they got the picture he was looking for, it literally didn't make sense. And then OJ practically does the same thing except he survived because of course he does. It felt very HOLLYWOOD, not like a tight knit story with actual scares. That's what I was looking for.
