I met Jean Staplelton in the early '80s at the grocery store where I worked. It was located next to the theater. At the time, I worked at the front desk. This lady came up and asked for a pack of Kool Menthols. What came out of my mouth was, OMG, it's Edith Bunker! She was so nice and gracious and laughed it off. I apologized but she kept saying it's not necessary. Very nice lady.

I thought all the truly funny comedies had vanished sometime after the 70s. I never saw EL Raymond while in prime time, but since reruns, I’ve seen every episode several times, and still enjoy most of them. Each character contributed something unique to the show. Ray and Deborah were hilarious together, as were Ray and Marie, Frank and Marie, Robert and Marie, Deborah and Marie. I think Marie was the glue that held the show together so well. Everybody has known someone like her, and both loved and hated them. There would have been no show without her, and she indeed brought her character to life. But all of them were excellent at portraying their individual characters. I’ll give a nod to the veteran actors who played the in-laws. They all were great, added additional storylines to the series. The casting in this show was superb, even those who had bit parts. Remember when the two nuns stopped by to pick up Marie’s sculpture in the living room? Both women were great, but the shortest one was off the charts hilarious.

@@FactsVerse hard to pick a favorite. “Bad moon rising,” where Raymond has to put up with Deborah’s monthly insanity, was a great one. “Cookies” was also hilarious. The one where Deborah and Marie stop speaking, the two-parter, was a great one. Hard to pick just one. Also “Cruising with Marie “ was great.

It was a terrific ensemble and there wasn’t one weak performance. In particular I loved the episodes featuring Katherine Helmand and Robert Culp as Debra’s parents; the one where her parents have separated and her father brings a date to a family dinner, and the date is old enough to be his mother! Too, too funny! I have always been a fan of Patricia Heaton’s. She was a great foil for clueless Raymond, and did a terrific job in a very different role as the mom in one of my fave sitcoms The Middle. The only death of the various performers that I consider to be tragic is the heartbreaking death of young Sawyer Sweeten. I can’t imagine the pain he was in to take his own life. May he finally be resting in peace. 🙏💙

He was still in his Frankenstein makeup when he asked her for a date. Through Alterman and her friend Yoko Ono, Boyle became friends with John Lennon, who was the best man at Boyle and Alterman's 1977 wedding. Boyle and his wife had two daughters, Lucy and Amy.» Wikipedia” So Boyle met Lennon because Yoko was friends with the Rolling Stone reporter who was pursued by Boyle. It sure makes sense to me that Peter and John hit it off together. I read a lot about John enjoying some acerbic wit (fueled by alcohol) to create pranks, sometimes mocking the Smothers Brothers at their shows. Of course, Peter was hilarious on Everybody loves Raymond.
