Our E class has everything you showed except for night vision tech and cost quite a bit less. Well...there are some engine stuff and size differences too. The twin 12" screens are great and it amazes me that they have not done that in all their suv and c class cars instead of that "glued" ipad look they seem to like. The hud and speed control (looking for speed signs) works surprisingly well. The assisted driving is nice and at the right level. My biggest complaint would be how the speed control does not 'coast' but uses the brake. I kind of fear people behind me getting annoyed at my brakes coming on. As we are getting older have another pair of eyes looking around is good thing and I hope this tech becomes more ubiquitous. For around 70k with options compared to...if I recall over 100k for the S, the E class is worth a look.

@kclark80806 жыл бұрын
David Nieves Jr. Really? That's your criteria. Mercedes has had drive pilot tech in the S-class since 2014. It's considered a Class 2 autonomous system. The Cadillac system is set up completely different with different parameters. There are positives and negatives to each system. Supercruise can only be used in autopilot in specific situations on specific roads that have been laser mapped by their navigation system and your eyes have to remain engaged (camera system in steering wheel pointed at you makes sure...Creepy!) You can remove your hands from the wheel for a long period of time. MB system can be used anywhere, but does not allow you to remove your hands from the wheel for extended times. Works in stop and go, city driving and highways and does auto lane change. I think both have good points but I don't like that I can't used the Cadillac anywhere I want and under whatever circumstances I choose.
@davidnievesjr.94786 жыл бұрын
K Clark MB's system is class 2? That's weird since you can only let go of the wheel for 10 seconds at a time. In the Cadillac, yes, it can only be used on the freeway, and only those that were mapped, but that's still thousands of miles of road where you can let the car do it all. All you have to do is look at the road. Let's not pretend that Cadillac hasn't been coming up with innovations throughout it's life.
@kclark80806 жыл бұрын
I"m not pretending anything. Cadillac builds a good car. I sell them. But let's not pretend like this is on the Tesla level of AutoPilot either. If you aren't going the route where you can use the SuperCruise, you can't use it. MB system is not designed for complete autonomy. It's an aid to keep you centered and from hitting things. I once drove one (S-class) on a 30 mile commute to work in one of the worst snow storms that year. The lane markers were covered as there was a full 1.5 inches on the freeway. I literally let it drive me to work because I was confident it would make the right decision in stop and go traffic under those conditions. I did have to touch the steering wheel from time to time to let it know I was engaged but the vehicle did it all, other than that. That was the first version of Distronic with Steering Assist. The current iteration, DrivePilot is much more advanced. The concept for the autonomous nature has two different intents between the two automakers. If MBs intent was to have the vehicle perform like SuperCruise, I'm positive they could do it, considering I've seen completely autonomous vehicles in action (see F015). Also, the biggest hinderance seems to be government regulation at this point. The U.S. Government actually decides what Automakers can use which safety technology and they have restricted MB's use of some of the devices they'd like to use. There's a reason why Tesla, Google and even Cadillac have been given additional latitude in regard to this tech. The government is making those calls and giving the leg up to American companies.
@davidnievesjr.94786 жыл бұрын
K Clark If I'm not mistaken, the Cadillac's system is all GPS. That's why it's antenna is much bigger than normal. So, in theory that should also work in any weather. The competition will be incredible to watch. I watch car companies like most people watch sports teams. This is much more interesting to me. Cadillac is tired of the reputation it had for so many decades so since 2003 it's been having renaissance. Even Lincoln is working to become the American luxury car that we need on the world stage. Now, I would never buy a European over an American car.

This is why nothing is made in North America now. When i was young everything was made in Canada America or Europe and the quality was fantastic .Hell all my toys were metal and made with British pride. The good days. If that car has the suspension features that predict road surface and adjust in real time, and that lean into curves, it's got the hydraulic "Active Body Control" suspension, NOT the air suspension (which is the base suspension in the S-class). On the suspension adjustment button next to the trackpad and wheel, if it's got a shock absorber it's air suspension; if it says "ABC" it's ABC. Is every other statement in this review as shoddily researched?

Steve Payne not until you try them. They are really a game changer. Super sensitive and intuitive
@kclark80806 жыл бұрын
How?
@Monserra6 жыл бұрын
OK, let's start with basics of driving. A car being driven along a public road is a potentially lethal weapon in the hands of someone who doesn't grasp the essentials of safe driving. That means that at all times, the job of the driver is to pay attention at all times to the environment around them. If you're driving in a busy city like I do in London UK that means you really should never be looking at anything other than the road ahead and every other possibility for an accident, such as pedestrians crossing the road without a care in the world whilst absorbed by their smart phones to idiots driving out of blind cross sections without looking and countless other scenarios. If you're driving on an open road outside of urban areas these essentials are dramatically reduced but certainly not a given for distractive habits. Multi function steering wheels can and do cause problems when reacting to sudden evasive moves that are commonplace in busy urban areas. There is no reason at all why it should be necessary to change all the ridiculous driving/infotainment modes from the wheel whilst driving as you have to look at the screen to see what you're navigating to and that means you're NOT looking at the road ahead. It's also easy to hit a wrong control when making evasive moves which is equally dangerously distracting.
@kclark80806 жыл бұрын
Steve Payne you make some valid points, but I don't think they outweigh the convenience of having the controls on the wheel. First of all, not everyone's a moron and moreover, those that can afford this car overwhelmingly I'd assume, would have some sense. The S has many systems that address the very things you mention. Cross Traffic assist with pedestrian recognition, Collision Prevention Assist plus to stop you if you're closing to quickly and even a system to assist you in making an evasive maneuver in emergency situation. This feature actually allows you keep 2 hands on the wheel instead of reaching one down to adjust features using the touchpad (much more dangerous). I don't see steering wheel function like this as some public safety issue in general, and its even less of one in a car like this.
@charles-davidberube11746 жыл бұрын
Steve Payne in reality, the touchpad steering wheel is much more safe than the conventional control on the center console. You can actually adjust your settings without having to look all the way down to your console which allows you to keep your eyes closer to the road. Let's say i want to change the climate, i can now do it from the steering wheel. It's a lot safer than you may think. I've use it in the e class and i found myself more responsive to the road as i keep both hands on the steering to be able to navigate in the settings instead of only keeping one hand.
