In other words, kids can develop patience if the promise is realistic, I.e., they expect it to actually be fulfilled, houses with full cupboards. Kids who are used to promises being broken arent able to wait. This is interesting, it suggests the tests of will power and related success are not necessarily tests of some innate factor, but rather that children make a realsitic assesment of the likelihood of promises being kept, and dont delay gratification if the promises arent reliable. This makes sense because why would they? so the correlation shown in the test is perhaps less about some innate ability to delay gratfication as it is developing heuristics based on the reality of delaying gratification actually being a successful strategy.

Oh my goodness, so cute!! This is adorable, and your kids are precious!!!! Do your daughters' eyes often face different directions, like at 3:01 on the video or 2:20 on the timer? I am still a medical student for now (1.5 years from a doctor), but since she is past 6 months old, you might want to bring it up with your pediatrician. I know some families have had trouble with making regular pediatric appointments during COVID (even though it is still super important to do so). Depending on what he/she says, this is usually easier to fix sooner rather than later to help their vision down the road. Again, adorable family!!

Interesting to see a version of the Stanford marshmallow experiment in action. The idea is that kids who are better at delaying gratification might have better life outcomes. The boy did seem a little young so it would be interesting to try again when he’s 4/5. And for the girl to try again with clearer instructions that if she eats just a little bit that counts as “eating”. Very interesting video nonetheless!
