Hank Hill is an egalitarian classical-Republican. Even when he's unknowledgable or distrusting of a out-group he absolutely respects their equality before the law. Throughout the show he's contrasted with extreme traditionalist conservatives who actively mock minorities, assert American supremacism, and call for regression on women's rights. Hank respects his wife as an equal and, while preferring The American Way and distrusting foreign things, still respects that other people have their own customs so long as he's free to disengage if he chooses to. Anyone who looks at Hank and assumes he's a bigot hasn't watched the show and is simply being racist.

SJW Translation: "Snobbish behavior was invented by rich people to look down on poor, but this became a learned behavior throughout our society for anyone to use superficial markers of "quality" and "objectivity" to prove that they are superior to the people who consume blindly. "Now this SOUNDS like a negative thing our society would be better without, but HEAR ME OUT---- _sometimes_ snobbish behavior like objective criticism and gatekeeping is a GOOD thing, if the _right people_ are doing it for _the right reason._ "Some snobs like movie critics just ruin people's enjoyment in movies because of superficial things like counting plot holes and rating the color grading; but OUR snobs, the _good snob_ like Anita Sarkeesian, does _important_ things like reminds society that they can do better by minorities. So don't worry: it's OK when we do it as long as we know better. "So really, snobbery is a tool that can be used for empathy or for cruelty; it's just a matter of intent. THAT'S why it's OK for me to judge people but not OK when audience-captured anti-woke grifters do it."

Rags could at least wait til later in the video to start dropping the braindead takes, instead of making me want to click off immediately. I can appreciate the sentiment that a lot of channels probably just grift off of playing the victim, but there is a MOUNTAIN of evidence at this point that KZbin plays dirty to suppress content their activist employees personally dislike and that their algorithms for what gets promoted massively favor mainstream and milquetoast channels that get far less engagement than more spicy channels. Yeah, the DnD channels crying foul probably aren't getting engagement because TTRPGs are a small niche and their content is lazy crap. Now what about KZbin putting CNN's coverage of a news topic on the 1st page of every search while channels that get 10x the views are way lower? What about the 10,000 examples of KZbin taking down a video without even an attempt at justification just after release to take it out of the algorithm during its prime engagement hours? What about people's comments and chats getting deleted without any notification or reason given? What about the statements STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH of the people responsible for google's(who owns YT) search engines designing it to suppress results they don't like, and direct comparisons with other search engines to prove it? Are you even vaguely aware of the fact that a bunch of MGTOW channels get their channels nuked for little to no reason at all, some 9-13 times in a row, while feds and nepo babies like Myron Gaines and Andrew Tate say all the same things minus all the substance and are left alone? No attempt at controlling a conversation happening there, huh? For everyone's sake Rags, please just stick to talking about media. @@Alkalion69not entirely true. There's plenty of people that make videos I enjoy, but it goes through cycles, and a lot of the cycle is based on whether or not KZbin recommends their video. This guy's definition of what a "snob" is is wrong and ruins any argument he makes, as he has to change the meaning of words to justify his statements. "Snob" is not interchangeable with "critic" or "poser", even though a snob may also be those things sometimes. A snob is simply someone who thinks greater of himself for the views he holds, and look down on others. Whether their critique is correct or not is irrelevant; that they think highly of themselves for that view IS relevant.

The five-second thing is actually taught in film schools, as in, you're taught that audiences will watch to see a change in the visuals every five seconds.

IIRC, Michael of Wisecrack used to be a college philosophy instructor. He likely does know of the philosophers he's bringing up. That doesn't mean he isn't just shoehorning them in because he thinks he's flexing. However, ironically, his snobbery might be earnest.

Snob has become synonymous with passionate people. At least within the sphere of the 'educated' pundits. Snob is supposed to be somebody that cares about the unimportant trappings of a subject/topic than the fundamentals. They are enamored with the superficial parts while being unable to identify the basic flaws that actually matter. Like Star Wars fans thinking the hyperspeed kamikaze was great because the visuals were beautiful, while dismissing the part where it makes space combat trivial now.

I'm glad to see Mauler and Fringy enjoyed the Beast Games somewhat. I was pleasently surprised by the creativity behind the games and the presentation. I dare to say it's pretty good as a reality show. They did a fine job overall and I'm glad to see youtubers break into the mainstream. My father got hooked on it too, so I think it has quite a wide appeal.

Its kind of funny how its gotten to the point where "I was just doing what I was told" or "I have to do this bad thing its just part of the culture" have been almost universally agree to be terrible and not an acceptable excuse that will just lead to worse things. However in any kind of Artist or creative field it is the most used defense by every and is completely defended by everyone.

Mr Beast, the content creator who more than anyone else has designed their channel around maximising algorithm uptake, says that the algorithm is irrelevant and its all about what the audience wants? Okay, sure.
@isaackane4931
@isaackane4931 14 сағат бұрын
In terms of algorithm, I think it's best case naive, worst case blatantly lying, to say it has nothing to do with a channels success. It's very obviously skewed to screw over some people more than others. To restrict certain types of content while promoting others, forcing people to either restrict themselves to any kind of attention or even take away their chances without them even knowing. KZbin banning certain words to say in the video, have in the description or title, or even type in comments. Nine times out of ten it being politically motivated. While also destroying itself to be ad/kid friendly. Or that it's been proven that they'll restrict a channel/video's reach because it says something they don't like. Obviously some people don't want/need to be the next Pewdiepie or Mr. Beast, but many can't even get off the ground. Or stay hidden despite it still being within your interests on the site. Or even have a decent audience/channel size already, but politics get even worse and KZbin suddenly decides to crack down on you because you covered a topic or just make an off-handed joke that makes a certain side look bad.
@ingrowsmith5148
@ingrowsmith5148 5 сағат бұрын
Correct. Obviously the EFAP boys are too much in a rush to clown on Wisecrack to give this perspective more time to air. I would also like to call your attention to a very intersting phenomenon. KZbin seems to be implemeting IP/Device based shadowbans. The comments I make on my computer are freely visible even when logged-out, on my computer. However when I switch to a phone, or other device, every single comment is visible except mine. Now isn't that thoughtful of them? All I said was talent agencies must have signal-boosted creators here on KZbin, since they most probably have a different contract in place instead of the standard TOS the avarage person agrees to, and poof. The comment is hidden. Mustn't get those nasty ideas out there.

This is the topic I am still conflicted about and not sure I will form a firm opinion/stance anytime soon, and this is why it was interesting to listen to your discussion. I sometimes lean more into "let people enjoy things" camp because studying in art field, there was a very specific kind of "snobbery" and expected way of thinking (and similar to ideological critisism mentioned around 2h30), putting down anything more popular or lighter in tone that irritated me a lot. And I have complicated relationship with how media critisism is handled in general. I like how you usually do it in EFAP, fousing on plot and why it did/ didn't work. Again, still figuring it all out and I think it's ok to not to be 100% sure.

the whole bit about "oh god and if you ask for a reccomendation..." is ridiculous since anyone of any level of pretentiousness will usualy ask the person demanding reccomendation about their own personal taste before going into a reccomendation to try and gage their interests/taste and give a proper reccomendation. those of us who worked service jobs will then ask the person's budget to suggest the best bang for their bucks according to their taste and perhaps if they hesitate between multiple choices you then go into the subtlety like what ingredients went into the production, where they were sources and where the product is produced.

If not tethered to teaching something about humanity, I do think the arts and humanities necessitates being of virtue. If the arts and humanities are metaphysical expressions, and morality is grounded by metaphysical truths, then the art must be a message of virtue to be considered art. Works that subvert virtue cannot be considered art. Very much a Platonic view of art. That's something I've been mulling over recently.
