Something I noticed: The "Gun Train" might be a reference to the The Transcontinental Railroad which connected East and West America. It was used as a transport to hunt buffalo and the tracks were built through Indian reservations (recommend reading into it a little bit). Thats a brief summary but needless to say, Boba's spiel about "ancestral homeland" of the sand people may have been a bit too on the nose to what they are trying to depict the sand people as. Loving the reactions so far however, the show, not so much.

At around 8:00, while suggesting alternate plot lines for a more interesting show, the idea of boba subtly undermining the current local regime is a concept even rebels (a show I’m mixed on) managed to try. Our small group of heroes would target supply transports, fuel depots, etc. because if they got in a direct military conflict the empire would wipe the floor with them. It’s really disappointing to see the lack of substantive creative effort under the surface of this flashy show

So in the old EU books there was a character called Talon Karrde. He was a crime boss who absorbed most of Jabba's empire into his after RotJ and became one of the prominent underworld players in the post-war period, over time came to an initially uneasy but eventual firm alliance with the new republic through his interactions with Luke Skywalker and the grudging but mutual respect they develop for one another due to Karrde's shrewd and calculating yet sensible and honourable nature. I'm mentioning this because I fully expect that Boba will get parachuted into this role when they move onto pillaging the post RotJ EU, the Thrawn books in particular. @@LawlTwins don't mix objective and subjective qualifiers, my guy ("terrible" and "unwatchable"). I'm not getting drawn into another discussion of Mandalorian's quality again, because I'm sick to death of repeating myself ("I really really enjoy it, but not only is it not perfect, it has some series issues at specific points.") only to be repeatedly challenged in a toxic manner (I hate using that term but it's the only one that applies), rather than a constructive and productive discussion. And I'm sorry, but as much as I love and respect MauLer, Rags, and Fringles, there were some pretty huge inconsistencies and inaccuracies among them with criticisms they had against The Mandalorian (conversely, did they point out flaws and issues I didn't notice? Yes. Were there issues that I picked up on myself? Definitely). But if you want a more comparable reason? One is that TBoBF is so ungodly slow paced with unecessary scenes that don't add investment or depth to characters and the narrative. 2 episodes, a total of 35-40 minutes of actual plot progression, and about an hour's worth of flashbacks with the Tusken Raiders, potentially leading to a more frustrating experience for the viewer. Whereas, at least with Mandalorian, if there was a no-plot episode, it was a no-plot episode from start to finish. (Another criticism I levy against Mandalorian; way too much filler for whats supposed to be a focused, 8 episode mini series VS a full 20-ish episode season where you have the room to breathe and slow down.) They're fucking and mucking around with Fett, they're wasting time with the Tusken Raider backstory that could have and should have just been done in the first episode, and the choreography is so dull and boring and poorly thought out. Mandalorian at its worst left me "ugh, fine, whatever." Fett is leaving me like Bad Batch did; "this has 3 episodes to get me on-boars or I'm bailing". (And yes, I recognize I am giving examples of subjective and objective take aways. Just shoveling out what I have at the ready)

honestly it's not that bad overall. Either 'head' is perfectly adequate for use as a bashing weapon, the length is good for generating a good bit of momentum to put into the strike, and having effectively a counter-weight on either end would be somewhat helpful for keeping it under control while swinging. You could hurt somebody right proper with it. Some of them even have an integrated spear point for close in stabbing however, double weapons like that are always a bit iffy in terms of practical use. rarely are you ever in a situation that allows you to make full use of any fighting technique that would allow you to exploit such a thing that's not ritual combat. And both ends, while individually effective and visually different... are effectively the same thing in practical terms. So it's a little suspect as to why you'd invent something like that in the first place So from my perspective it's hella over-engineered for what it is and a bit impractical, but not ludicrously over designed the way a lot of scifi/fantasy weapons tend to be. For a nomadic, pre-gunpowder civilization like the Tuskens (at least in pre-disney lore any tech they had was scavenged, stolen or traded for, not natively made), it's what you'd call 'fine'

They only learned to tolerate him, because he proves himself capable as a warrior for them, which was just a off chance thing, no way Boba knew how they would react after killing the sand creature, yet instead of escaping when he had the chance, he came back to them. If anything Boba must have been suffering from Stockholm syndrome. Its the only was to justify him seeing the Tuskens as allies and not as captors. Also, lets not overlook the complete disregard Tuskens have for their own tribe members, Tuskens were getting slaughtered left to right and the rest of the Tuskens gave no fucks, we didnt even see them grieving for their dead. The apologists of this shitty show keep insisting that Boba changed his ways, after spending his time with the Tuskens but at no point in the show do we actually see him going threw an ark where he decides or learns to change his ways, nor do we ever see the Tuskens themselves teaching him lessons in compassion. I am not and American. Maybe that is why I see the difference and lack of value in this. But goddamn, tribal rituals need to make sense and have significance to that tribe. What is the significance of that tree in the visions? What is the significance of that lizard? What does it mean to that tribe? Do they breed it? Is it a spirit animal? Is it worship it? Is it a sign of whatever God they believe in? WHY is that stick so valuable? WHY is that dance? What does it mean to that tribe? I'd appreciate it more if I knew what things meant rather than this is a thing that happens in "westerns". No! You cannot disguise you're crap as "oh, western!" It's _better_ than most guns. It can deflect a blaster bolt. Can a stick deflect a blaster bolt? No? _Use a blaster, then!_ God. It's... really not that hard to force a character to use a melee weapon, too! Especially in a space-fantasy setting. Just make it so blasters are ineffective against his foes. Make his foes giant regenerating monsters, so that he has to use a massive sword, to cleave through them. Or, like, a normal sword to cut off their heads. Or something! It's not hard! When Boba derails the gun train, we find out that this is a part of the Pyke Syndicate's spice running operation. There is an insane amount wrong here, so I suppose I'll split it into two categories: Before and after Boba starts his interrogation of the Pykes. The first big question is why the Pykes are transporting spice across Tatooine on a train in the first place. Trains are a tricky thing in Star Wars, since starships are a lot more practical for long distance transport. The first appearance of a train in Star Wars actually made a lot of sense. In Clone Wars season 4, we are introduced to a planet with an extremely dangerous and stormy atmosphere, and are told if they try to land by flying in a ship, it would be destroyed. The characters (among them, a younger Boba Fett) need to take a space elevator to get on the planet's surface. Here, the train is just moving across open desert, and not even along a designated railway. The second big question is how much cargo this train could possibly be carrying when we see that literally every single car opens up so the Pykes inside can shoot stuff (for nough raisin). My third question is how the Pykes can be so accurate when firing from a vehicle moving so fast. At least the Tuskans have the excuse of being able to somewhat lead their shots (side note: I am confused as to the significance of that kid shining the light to those Tuskan snipers). Now we get to Boba's interrogation, which if you are familiar with 3rd party media is just horrendous dialogue. Boba asks the Pyke leader if they are transporting spice, to which he responds with "what is spice?". This is monumentally stupid since the Pyke Syndicate operate the largest spice running operation in the entire galaxy. It's like if someone asked an American "do you have a gun?" and they responded with "what are guns?". If the defense is that the Pyke is playing dumb, that doesn't work since this is dumb beyond believability in this universe. Anyone who says you need to watch shit like the Clone Wars to enjoy this is coping beyond belief. The Clone Wars isn't all that well written, but these shows make it look like a mastercraft.

The only reason Jabba the Hutt amd the Gammorean Guards look like they do is because its part of the original SW and for brand recognition. If it wasn't, they'd have changed it to something cuter. The second part of SW is the cool stuff. And the contrast between the two halves makes it a great world. Stormtroopers look cool but they're evil. Disgusting aliens turn out to be likeable heroes. Also, cool and intimidating. Disney cannot be scary. Because we cannot scare the embryos we want as our fan-base. After working on The Jungle Book, she refused to work with Jon Favreau ever again. Adding he was one of the worst directors she had ever worked with. Reason being, the guy will openly steal credit for things he had nothing to do with. Example, designing and building sets. Most directors will always give credit to crew members for the hard work and creativity put into building productions. Even in collaborations, directors will credit those who came up with the creative ideas and solutions. Favreau would brag and take the credit for non-directorial work claiming the work as his own creativity, and he would do this on set. No cameras on him, taking creative ownership directly in front of those who he should be crediting.

Yeah, wearing thick black robes in the blazing hot desert is a real thing. The idea is that the cloth is thick enough that the heat from the outside doesn't actually reach your skin, and it also keeps the moisture from your sweat within. It's certainly not pleasant but it's a smart alternative to scorching and dehydrating under the sun. Plus, the nights in tatooine *should* be unbelievably cold, like any desert, so having those thick clothes will also help keep your body heat trapped inside.

So if you combine a thick outer layer in dark colors with a brighter inner layer, the outer layer will get hot and the inner layer will keep the heat off you. I get what they were going for but they pulled it off in a way that makes the entire process pointless.

Boba Fett, according to literary canon, WAS a kinda dirty fighter. He played by GTA Online rules. Any gadget, any advantage, any OP weapon, vehicle or underhanded tactic was employed. His first encounter w Han Solo, he snuck up behind him dressed like a bum and drugged him. He always got his target, and everyone knew he would do whatever it takes. He was all buisness and no emotion, just effort and dedication. That mayor... Boba would have went in solo at night, and nobody would know what happened till they found the bodies in the AM. And the Hutts would have had a replacement for Jabba on the way as soon as they found out he was dead. Bin Fortuna would never have sat on that throne, he would have either capitulated to the Hutts or been killed for sure. The scene w the Hutts was good... cus sending assassins, then making threats and offers simultaneously would be their style. They play verbal chess and test the nerve of each other and those they deal with regularly and you gotta learn how to deal with them on those terms. They are a bunch of bluster but also not... its strange. They appreciate the value of a ruthless clever opponant, but also trust nobody, not even each other. They probably would have offered to make Boba a vassal rather than waste time and resources fighting, risking the buisness prospects and stability in fear the other Hutts would see the weakness and sieze upon it. But for sure, they would have sent assassins, then a negotiation laden with flattery and threats st the same time. And then theres Black Sun.... Crimson Dawn in the Disney universe.... they would have also siezed upon the opportunity the power vacuum presented. And the Hutts feared and respected Black Sun over even the Empire. I hope they are featured (correctly) in this series... I hope we get Prince Xixor.

The thing is that a lot of that is implicated in merely being a bounty hunter. You have to be ruthless enough to collect on even sympathetic bounties, or you're probably in the wrong business. There's no excuse for this portrayal of Boba. This man was not a bounty hunter.

Every single time that I see a bad "training montage" like that I'm reminded of the last samurai (the one with Tom cruise, if I'm not mistaken) where he trains with the other samurai and gets better, but is constantly losing to them, until one of the younger ones walks up to him and says: too many mind. Mind the enemy Mind the field Mind the sword Too many mind No mind And then Tom takes a deep breath and fights again, this time with a slow-mo effect and he doesn't win, but gets a draw. Such a clever and simple way to show progression and understanding of the way the samurais fought. Nowadays it's just CLANK CLANK head nod, you have learned everything I had to teach.

That's Disney Star Wars. It looks like everything is missing one or two levels of detail. A good example are the Twi'leks. In the Lucas films their head tails could be styled by wrapping them around their necks, draping them over their shoulders, or letting them hang freely behind their heads, They looked like fleshy appendages of an alien species. in Disney's works they're thin, stiff, look brittle, and in some cases look like a hat stuck on an actor.

I feel like there’s a way to write Boba as a protagonist that doesn’t just transform him into a generic good-doing hero while not going overboard in showing how apathetic and sinister he can be, the easiest probably making his adversaries equally or perhaps more diabolical than him and leading the audience to even question which of the two sides is more agreeable in an interesting kind of way Even just the notion that he wants to be a “Crimelord” as Boba himself embarrassingly puts it sounds like there would be some ethical dilemmas to follow with that. Instead, this being Disney, they’re probably likening it more to him just becoming a king to rule benevolently over this ragtag kingdom or something, rather than dealing in narrative with the oppressive or dark elements that actual organized crime would obviously have. They’ll just opt for a sanitised, romanticized rendition, it seems

That information led us to believe (at first) that it was literally a train that went through the world shooting every one. We get the context later, but the context barely helps at all. If they are worried about the train being attacked, why would they provoke random people? The guns wouldn't help if an armed ship attacked it. If trains are actually a common thing on Tatooine, it would make more sense to disguise it by not having turrets in every car. If they aren't, don't use a fucking train.

His sympathy and interest in their customs is contrived bullshit (which would make him a poor bounty hunter and a poor crimelord) that the writer wants to insert because he feels like it. Someone like Boba would not only gtfo, but probably come back eventually to fuck them up. The arbitrariness of circumstances matter exactly zero to a bounty hunter or mafioso -- it's all just ruthless 'us and them'. It doesn't matter if you 'could have conceivably been on the other side', you're on your team, period.

What is Boba's motivation for staying with the Tusken Raiders? You would think that once he got a speeder, he would head straight to civilization to find where he parked his ship or contact someone to get him off the planet. You can tell he's a boring character because he seems to have no urgency of leaving, suggesting he doesn't have much else going on his life that he prioritizes. You'd think at the very least he would want to get back to bounty hunting and getting paid rather than sniffing lizards.

I think watching you guys for so long has helped me start to see the things you see. You keep bringing up things that I was thinking while watching the show. An issue I have with the desert melons is how easy they are to find. They're just inches below the sand and the prisoners are able to find several of them in a short amount of time. If this really is the case then we should be seeing hundreds of these things all over the place. Sand shifts over time and there's no reason these things wouldn't be uncovered by the wind. Also when Boba says the assassin doesn't need his head, the guard pulls out a knife. Cutting a head off with a knife would be very messy and extremely painful for the victim. If the assassin is afraid of the Rancor then he should absolutely be afraid of the unbearable pain that he would go through getting his head slowly cut off. This is something ISIS would do, If Boba wants to rule with respect rather than fear, this certainly isn't the way to do it. In the words of Rick Sanchez: "just give me a gun, I'll kill myself."

One of the problems I think in the case of this show when it comes to Disney is they are abusing what they know the fans know. They know that die hard fans will know that in the old EU, Boba does eventually have a redemption arc when he trains Jaina Solo and helps with the Vong invasion. Rather then telling these good stories they just want to rush straight to the part where he is the good guy for whatever reason to build their SW MCU in the most messy, but what they at least deem acceptable, manner. Boba doesn't really have a proper redemption arc, he trains Jaina so she can kill the man who killed his daughter. And he knows having Jacen's own family be the ones to take him out would be a far greater revenge then if he did the deed himself. He is still very much his own agent to the very end. What semblance of a redemption arc he does get was regarding his family. The pregnant wife he abandoned, the daughter who hated him for it and spent years trying to kill him (It's what ultimately got her killed) and the granddaughter who was raised to despise him, but gradually forgives him and grants him a second chance to make up for everything he did to his family.
