When the Accord had that sweet 2 liter turbo mated to a 10 speed auto, I said the only thing that prevents it from being the ultimate moderately priced midsize sedan was lack of available AWD. Then Honda refreshes the design (same platform, more like extensive facelift than a redesign) and instead of adding AWD, they take away the best powertrain!

You hit the nail on the head regarding the all-wheel drive. However, it also took Toyota multiple generations of the Camry to get to that conclusion finally,...but at least it did. Their approach, like the Accord with its extremely sparse mid-cycle updates over the years, was that that they could sell every Camry just the way it was--so why put the added investment into the car? Gorgeous body color, but needs a two-tone interior to reduce the dour quotient. Perhaps a small thing, but indicative of just about everybody's mindset out there, don't the manufacturers know only one back seat pocket looks really chintzy?.... I e, exactly what it is. Smacks of a bit too transparent cost cutting. I'm actually kind of a fan of the styling, as conservative as it is - very Volkswagen / Audi in that regard... at least isn't of the Origami School of Design like so many others. Edit: re the design. I have long thought that the Accord could use a sportback/sportwagon - "shooting brake" approach to refreshen the line. Decades ago, they had that kind of body style, but alas not for North American consumption, called the "Aerodeck." At the time, it was sort of a "super Civic Si" in style, and at a quick glance from a distance could be mistaken for.
@tg_ny
@tg_ny 7 сағат бұрын
Having owned three different generation Accords and the current owner of a 2018, this one has been the worst. First, Honda is now using some sort of plastic tabs on the body panels, and the panels, particularly the front bumper and front quarter panels, will just pop out. You have to push the body panel back in with your knee. So they lose points for body integrity. This was never a problem in the past with Accords. Second, the car has some wierd suspension system, and eats through tires more rapidly, even having had alignments done a number of times. Third, the front impact collision radar will have the car slam on the brakes if a car has moved into a right hand exit lane and applied its brakes, even when that car is not in front of you. Fourth, the front end styling is a bit homely. Fifth, the car is actually too big. It’s hard to park in standard parking spaces. The eighth gen Accord was a good size. If I went for another Honda sedan, I would choose a Civic, because it is smaller. On the plus side, with a Touring turbo four cylinder, the car gets really good gas mileage and has been mechanically very reliable. The car has more power than it needs. Kia and Toyota are selling more cars because you can get them without CVTs. I really like the new CR-V but don’t want a CVT. Honda should study the Kia Seltos. The price point, vehicle size, features included at different trim levels, colors, styling. It is the first Kia I am considering getting. They are selling like crazy in my area, far more than the CR-V. Also, if you are goint to have black or dark grey wheels on a vehicle, also offer a silver option. Some of us find dark and dark grey wheels depressing.

I purchased a 23 hybrid sport. I just ended up selling it but I thought is was well engineered especially in hybrid format. My problem was the seating was uncomfortable after a while especially the passenger side that had no height adjustment. So passengers are basically sitting on the floor. Lack of amenities - no rear vents, no xm radio. The ride is firm and the 19 inch rims are curb feelers. It's got a little to much road noise. Throw in no AWD and I did feel it was something I could live with long term.

Set yourself apart and sell the wagon in the USA. People want utility. I'd buy one.

As a life long honda fan, still rocking my 09 RL, honda has lost their identity. The special models are no longer exciting, the daily drivers are just appliances now, no soul whatsoever. Hyundai imo has taken over Hondas role from the 90s. Hard to imagine myself getting another Honda Acura product after my RL dies (hopefully never)

I think the bland or plain styling was Honda just resetting the look for upgrades over the next years, but they may have went too far and lost Accord enthusiast.

The same team that designed the 2 X 4 also designed the Accord. Truly ugly as a mud fence.

They made it lower and hard to get into the back seat. No wonder people are buying SUVs.

Bad design and not sporty anymore. For some reason, they decided to drop the 2.0T that was very good and reliable. Honda keep making a lot of mistakes.
