Having put in hundreds of hours in this game, I highly recommend the slaves start. You will see that it is a free training ground for your characters. You can train up sneak, assassin, strength, lockpicking, and toughness there easy. You get free beatings and healthcare (toughness). You get cages and shackles (lockpicking, and strength training as you can put the shackles in inventory and the guards kindly provide a free pair when they beat and bandage you). Next, at night, you can break out of your cage and work on sneak. Make sure to remove your shackles from inventory. Once you are sneaking past the guards no problem, it is time to train assassin! The prisoners love the stakes outside. You can just sneak up on them, or walk up to them even, as they cannot move. Then practice your assassin skill. Soon you can play games with the guards. I recommend refreshing the map on occasion to restock food and stuff. By the time you casually walk out in guard armor, you will be ready to have a great time in the world of Kenshi.
