The worst thing Rey ever did was negate the accomplishments of those who came before her, taking the credit for their struggles and sacrifices. SHE is the one to destroy Palpatine forever, SHE (a Palpatine) is the one to take on the Skywalker name (a bloodline that is now EXTINCT), SHE gets Han's iconic Millenium Falcon (and learns to handle it BETTER than him.). She makes Han's sacrifice meaningless by failing to save Kylo, even though he used the Force to revive him, she does not return the gesture. Rey claims to be ALL the Jedi despite having the bare minimum of training OR insight into what the Jedi even ARE. She has no personal stake in the story beyond wanting to survive, her ties to the other characters are underdeveloped and she never feels like a fully realised character. Everything is just handed to her, and everyone else that came before her, ultimately turn out to be failures.

Imagine saying Rey is a better pilot than Han. 😂😂 Second of all, Rey couldn't return the favor to Kylo. 😅 like she could barely survive on her own. Kylo gave his life for her, knowing what it meant. Do you realize how dumb the cycle would get? Kylo dies to resurrect Rey who then dies to resurrect Kylo? 😅😅😅 Also, Rey is all the Jedi bc she is the last one. Luke had 4 years of training (not even complete years) and he was the last Jedi at the end of RotJ 😂

I hated her even more when her movie was announced. Because the premise of that movie is going to be her rebuilding the Jedi order after it fell, let me remind you that this is literally *Luke’s* storyline and now they’re just giving it to Rey after she already robbed Anakin of destroying the Sith. Now the stories and struggles of both Anakin and Luke are pretty pointless considering Rey just comes along and does both of what they were supposed to do better than them.

When Rey closed her eyes and calmed herself that moment when Kylo Ren had cornered her on the edge of the precipice, I really thought him telling her that she needed a teacher triggered a memory in her, that maybe she did have some training before she was abandoned on Jakku. Also, even without access to the internet as kids, there is still merch sales. I see the Star Wars toy sections on shelves shrinking, and anything new, of any kind of merch, not just toys, are always either OT or Mandalorian/Grogu. I've seen a few CW era toys pop up and, on a very rare occasion where there was a line of ships, a couple with Kylo Ren's interceptor, but that's it. I bet she will be exactly her robotic, boring, bland Mary Sue self, absolutely perfect in every way & the years haven't touched her at all. Rey is not a character or even a plot device. She is a characterization - a bad one. She damaged the plot, the storylines, the other characters, and the overall arc of the journey of the heroes. This is the problem, not the fact that she is too powerful. The too powerful issue is minor. Every time Rey is on screen, she appears to be damaging one or more of the major elements of Star Wars or (worse) another character. This is why Rey is hated. She is a bad plot mover in the poor disguise of a character. As a female lead, why should female fans (or any fans) to proud of her? Star Wars was before Lucas sold filled with an unbelievable number of strong wonderful leads and supporting characters (Vader, Luke, Leia, Han, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Padme, etc...) . Rey just is not anywhere near that level. Even as a plot device Rey fails when compared to the Death Star or the Jedi or the Sith or the Republic! As such, the question is not "why do fans hate Rey", but rather "how could it be otherwise?" But credit where it is do. The lead bad boy in the VII, VIII, and IX is just as bad a character. And he also is a complete failure even as a plot device. So at least Rey has company (which she would not if it were not for him).

@@Xehanort10 I have to disagree. I don't think he's a Gary Stu, most certainly not in the books. But even in the films he gets hurt plenty of times, and he usually would not survive without the aid of Q's gadgets. Not all women fall for James: Fiona as early as Thunderball calls him out on thinking that all women automatically would fall for him. A lot of the Bond girls (primary and secondary) are vulnerable young women in bad situations: Domino, Solitaire, Andrea, and Loupe for example are all lovers of violent and/or abusive men who take or try to take the opportunity to get out or better their position, and it's morally dubious of Bond to use them to his own advantage. He's not a good person, despite being one of the good guys. Vesper and Elektra both use him. He's quick to fall for the women he finds himself protecting, but apart from his wife (who's a touchy subject for him) seems to fall out of love just as quickly. I enjoy him as a character in the films because he's not perfect and has a lot of bad qualities, but I would absolutely loathe a person like him in real life.

Why is Rey hated? Simple, because she is a plot device that must make the story move, everything happens around her and only her. Events simply happen because they must ,not because that's where they lead to like in the OT or the prequels where we learn how a Jedi trains , how tragedy can change a person and so on. Just as KK said that if a movie is surrounded by controversy it means it's not meant for certain people (meaning 99% of the fandom) to enjoy, I can strongly say that she has no idea how entertainment and good storytelling work. You don't make entertainment to push a message that everyone must follow, it's very arrogant to impose something and no one likes that.( it's not like they care or anything)

I think both were quirky and unique and can be appreciated for it. IMO the sequels didn’t work because it lacked any relatability and conflict in the central story, and identity. The prequels had all the flaws but at least they had something to say and stuck by it. I was once in a small college jazz band, and my group had a lot of personal issues and outside obligations that prevented us from being properly prepared for our upcoming concert. My music teacher said something along the lines of “You may be unprepared, but you need to pour your heart and soul out on stage regardless. Making something happen and showing a lot of emotion is much more powerful than having a sorry, vague and bashful mess. At least you leave the audience with something to take away”

Rey is the pure definition of a Mary Sue. She might as well change her name to that. -Hardly had any training and still defeats the emperor with ease. -Defeats Kylo Ren even though she’s never wielded a lightsaber. -Lifts a huge pile of boulders even though she’s still in training. -Can use force regeneration on a high level. Even though she WAS STILL IN TRAINING. - Barley had any struggles. -Always reigned triumph over others, even to those whom helped her. -Steals the Skywalker name as if it belongs to her. I can go on and on as to why Rey is the perfect example of a Mary Sue.

Rey should have just handed Anakin his lightsaber, just like she previously did with Luke. * Rey had struggles. She was orphaned by her family. It is not easy to raise yourself. * I agree that there should have been a little ceremony or something where The Skywalker Family formally adopted Rey, OR Ben and Rey should have been married. * Rey should have had more training.

I always found it weird to call "Mary Sue" a sexist term just because it's a womans name. Like... it came from a character. It's an archetype that's named after a specific character who was called Mary Sue. She was the main character in an (intentionally) bad self-insert Star Trek fanfiction from the 70s. That's where the criteria of the trope and the name came from. It's like saying "Chad Thundercock" is a sexist term because it's a mans name. They're just trope names to describe archetypes.

Rey is a poor replacement for Luke. What Disney should have done is respect the cannon from the books that followed EP6. They should have put on screen Luke's journey to rebuild the jedi witch was the main arc of the books that continued the story after EP6. Now Rey's character development was completely flat. She had no growth over the three movies and I think this was due to her being able to do anything inherently without any prior training from the start. Yes she did get some training from Luke in TLJ but that was not enough time for her to be able to do what she does going on. She just uses the force and fly's the falcon without, as far as we know, any significant instruction and she even knows how to repair the falcon which is over twice her age and has also been heavily modified from it's original design. Where did she learn on Jakku the ins and outs of the guts of a YT-1300 Corellian Freighter? I bet the writers of this crap didn't even know the ships model number because their obviously not Star Wars fans. This is bad writing, bad character development and just highlights how Disney is hiring people who don't care about the source material they are writing for.

Feedback i haven't seen much in this comment section... As respectfully as i can, this video is very over-edited. You don't need a special effect or whacky transition for every clip. Effects and transitions are tools to elicit emotions and convey certain "feels". This video is really hard to watch. And i imagine it was even harder to make because you had to create and put all of these effects in every clip. Think about what you want the audience to feel and does the effect help or hurt. It may be cool, but it may be the wrong place/time for that. Again, all the respect I can give you. It takes a lot of hard work to create a great script and edit all the clips together and come up with a good idea title and thumbnail. So please don't be discouraged. The fact the dude could even still walk was a testament to how strong he was, but he absolutely was not gonna be at the top of his game in a fight. Also, in expanded universe lore, Besipn wasn't even the first time Luke fought Vader, and he actually faired far better in their first encounter, albeit because Obi-Wan's force ghost possessed him to augment his abilities. Point being, Star Wars lore has always been full of ways to explain anything Rey does.

I would like to know how many people are like me: I don't *hate* Rey. She seems nice enough ... personable ... it's not like I don't *want* her to be a good character. It's that these three movies were written like crap by people who have no respect for the audience, the source material, the past characters, or even the story that was started in the previous movie. 7 was a mess, 8 s**tcanned what 7 had started, and 9 was a b***hslap to 8. I like the character of Rey just fine, other than she's overpowered, her character arc was practically non-existent, and she obviously doesn't even know what a compressor *is*, much less how important it is that you don't bypass it! Signed, a mechanical engineer who knows a thing or two about compressors.

"we didn't make the movie for them " - Kathleen Kennedy If not for the generations of genuine star war fans that supported the franchise well before the sequal trilogy was even thought of, Then who did you make it for? If you're not gonna take someone's preexisting franchise and respect the material and the fans, it better to leave it alone.

Ridley seems like a good actress, but I’m talking about the character Rey. She is literally the WORST character in Star Wars. A boring stock character, a dumb Mary Sue, a poorly written character. The reason why I said Ridley seems like a good actress is because she deserved so much more than Rey. I can list many characters that are better than her: Coleman Trebor, Jar Jar Binks, Pong Krell, Kylo Ren, etc.

The reason people hate rey is because the writers suck. She didnt have to be the joke of the century. That was all their fault.

Look, I’m sure daisy has a good heart. I’m suuure… Though it would have been nice if instead of saying “yes boss” to the poor writing, she stood up and gave better suggestions. That goes for all of them. Unfortunately Ford was already a lost cause.

Daisy Ridley... eat your heart out, Mark Hamill offered actor Cameron Monaghan better advice on his role as Jedi Cal Kestis in STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor. Wise words and questionable training methods from Mark will hopefully give Cameron the edge he needs as he continues his journey from STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order then your joke of a training from last Jedi.

Because she was put in a terribly written trilogy with writers and ownership that has no knowledge whatsoever of the franchise they are writing for, plus, yeah, sis- Rey is a Mary Sue.

Rey was thinly written but it could have been ignored by me if not for that stupid fucking forced Palpatine reveal. How do you make a reveal that not only adds nothing to make her cooler but only adds MORE questions? I'm supposed to believe that Palpatine with all his planning and power couldn't have semsed amd then through some agents snatched up someone with his own flesh and blood and force potential, and instead went out of his way to corrupt Ben Solo, whispering in his head for years and ignoring her? Or hell, why not BOTH?

In the book Shadow of the Sith Palpatine lost track of Rey's parents since her dad had force potential for a powerful offspring, which is why he let him go off Exegol.

It's not hate, it's more like exasperation. At least, for me personally. I mean let's face it Chanel Oberlin had more character development.

Basically George gathered them together and they signed up to do his sequel trilogy but at some point obviously he sold to Disney so those contracts got carried over …so they had to take part. The same thing happened on the film ghost ship The cast found themselves starring in a completely different movie to the one they signed up for

Rey is a parasitic character. Everything she has by the end of her story was taken from someone else... She stole the Falcon, she stole Han as a father figure, she stole Chewie after Han's death, she stole Anakin's lightsaber, she stole Leia as a mother figure and she stole the Skywalker last name... Nothing she "has" is hers, nor earned, and certainly not deserved. *In the end she remained a scavenger.*

Time not always fixes things. Hittler continues to be a bad guy, doesn't he? Rey continues to be a broken, bad written, insufferable character that belongs to a story noone wants to accept as part of the Star Wars canon. To be honest, I don't care much about the actress. For example for the few interviews I saw from Adam Driver I think he's a good guy, and think he's a good actor too. That doesn't make Kylo Ren a better character, he continues to be a teenager prone to have tantrums, a weak Star Wars villain, and a character that would fit more in the Twilight Saga than in a Star Wars movie.
