I like that fact that our MC is not some nonchalant OP badass from the start. He doesn't fall into what I call the "Saitama Sinkhole." Where the writer constantly brings out these increasingly powerful enemies, each invariably treated as being "Invincible" or having power beyond comprehension, only to be one-shot or effortlessly be defeated by the MC. Will actually struggles, he gets hurt, he falters and has setbacks. However, he still keeps fighting. THAT is how you write a strong protagonist. A perfect hero without flaws who can somehow handle any and all opposition without effort isn't powerful. It's lazy.
