hey Michael & Lisi, I used to live in LA. I was in the burbank area. Every year without fail, the Santa Ana winds would come and cause fires to spread. you could not pay me to have a home there now. Just like in Mississippi with the awful floods. nope, not me. I'm not going to try to live in an area that gets devastated every year. no way

The combination of climate change and mismanaged water resources created this devastating fire situation. Anyone discussing environmental protection of fish without addressing the economic power structures controlling California's water supply is either spreading misinformation or hasn't looked deeper than "surface-level narratives." KZbin kept censoring "trigger words" so I had to make the post as robotic as possible.

Well, thank god I bought my house in a semi-rural part of Pennsylvania. Sure, it gets cold in the winter. But it is one of the few places NOT expected to get hit by climate change. Other than a potential Blizzard, I'm safe from most weather catastrophes. My biggest fear will be the climate refugees from New York and New Jersey.

Everyone is not rich that lost their homes. It’s just that everyone is focused on the rich (Palisades, Malibu, Brentwood)but the fire in Altadena (Eaton fire)destroyed more homes than in Palisades and those other areas. @@BackyardAquatics-o2m Cali is better than texas. Texas is cali, but without any improvements post disaster. Texas' infrastructure neglect is adding up as we see with their growing powergrid problems. The people in cali buying a different house are smart because no one knows what a rebuild can legally be yet. If they don't set building codes to make houses more forest fire resistant, then rebuilding won't make sense. People will have to build homes to a standard that will allow them to be insurable or you get florida.

I wish you would have talked about the Eaton fire. Everyone is focused on the Palisades fire in the rich area… but on the opposite side of town the Eaton Fire has been going and they’ve lost even more homes… but it’s the low income people over there so the media doesn’t focus on it as much. Many people who lost their homes in the Eaton Fire are really struggling. They still have to pay their mortgages and their property taxes so they have no money to rent a new place. They lost everything… even their work tools and cars. They have nowhere to go… yet everyone is focused on the rich people. Smh

I was just thinking yesterday that the entire country will be feeling the reverberations from this. Lived in Southern Maine for almost 20 years and in the 4 years after 2020 and all the chaotic stuff people were moving there from NY , Mass, and CAlifornia after the Paradise fire. Our rentals went up 4 , 5 and 6 times. . A $800 apartment i had is now renting for over 3k. Houses were going for 600k and begin sold to people from out of state driving the locals out of their own state. . I moved away and not going to say where because I bought a 3 bedroom, 2 bath ,farmhouse with a basement, and a barn for $150k. Disaster capitalism is what is happening

Michael, native Californian here. Yes, the politicians are part to blame about these LA horrific fires. No water from some fire hydrants, lack of water to Southern California, reducing the budget for fire departments, etc. However, the topography of the lands, with steep hillsides, mountains and the intense 100 mile per hour winds. Frankly, I don’t think these subdivisions should be rebuilt without major changes to new reservoirs, sprinkler systems, new working fire hydrants, larger budgets for more fire fighters, new fire stations, etcetc. It’s like building more electric vehicles without more electric stations to power them. What a mess !

It’s been told they don’t hire minorities. I noticed the fire men were all white. I also her at times they do allow prisoners of petty crimes to help for pennies. There definitely is a race and class problem in one of the most expensive states. I am concerned about the others that can’t rebuild and don’t have other homes no where to go. Many lost jobs. Some were probably servants and gardeners and store owners for the wealthy. I feel for these people. It’s hard to feel sorry when you hear the wealthy talk about go fund me and they have 3 homes. Same thing happened just after the Paradise fire in Northern California. My sister and brother-in-law had just listed a condo that they owned in Chico just prior to the fire and then the fire happened. As a result, there was a huge demand for any homes available in Chico and they knew they could drastically raise the price of the condo but they decided they would not take advantage of people that had just suffered such bad luck, so they sold the condo at the original asking price. They later found out that the person they sold it to, not long after turned around and sold it at a HUGE profit.

@@ColetteSpencer-k5o I live at the foothills on the front range of Colorado. We had the Marshall fire rip through 1000 homes in just hours in Boulder County. I watched it from my home! Most of those residents were under-insured. To top it off, Boulder County is just as fanatical as California and the two municipalities in the county tried forcing anyone who rebuilds has to add solar and other green initiatives that they couldn't afford. Him and I had been talking about home insurance ever since that day. We both checked our policies with State Farm and found we were grossly under-insured. We both changed our coverages but we never wanted to use them. It's a good thing he made those changes. We also talked about preparedness in case of a bug out situation. Him more than me as he had to evacuate on two different occasions because of fires in the area. It's the first thing he said to me when we talked after he saw his home destroyed was, "remember talking about bug out scenarios? Well, I drug my feet and never did a whole lot about it!"

I was born and raised in Southern California. Went to USC, worked near Brentwood. These fires were not preventable, but the mass destruction was avoidable if any of the politicians would have being doing even a basic job. Clearing brush, burying cables, not allowing homeless to camp in the woods (most fires are started by homeless- google it) having a reservoir full of water and hydrants that work. And just an idea, don't cut the fire department budget by 17 million dollars just last year- thank you mayor Bass. So the democrats are responsible for this horrendous disaster. But I doubt anything will be done about it. All you can do is leave the state, so your house is not in danger thanks to woke incompetent democrat politicians. I left CA, along with over a million former residents of the once great state. The democratic woke agenda is anti people and you can't really change evil to good. the insurance situation is worse than what you described, since, as a requirement to being able to operate in the state, private insurance companies are obligated to bail out the state's insurance program (FAIR) if it goes insolvent. It only has a few million to its name at this point so it will run out of money quickly, and other insurers have to pitch in. So they will have to pay even if they did not write any policies in the affected area. They will have to pay the high risk claims taken on by the state that aren't even their clients and that they did not receive any premiums from.

if it goes insolvent? thats almost guaranteed. what happens when the private companies file for bankruptcy after being forced to bail out? i'm thinking state taxpayers are on the hook
