Its an old source engine glitch. Source calculates your vertical velocity based off of time in air not height and corners where props meet often have iffy collision meshes, so you jump into the corner and "slowly" fall but that entire time you are falling source is actually jacking up your vertical velocity to the point once you get unstuck you hit the ground and die

Everything would happen so fast that nobody understands what had happened

They tried that once, the problem is Harpoooooon! force-switches your weapons to Harpoons, and the Shark Shield is a weapon, so you can't do both at the same time, it only works if someone happens to buy the shield and someone else happens to buy a harpoon, and even then you only get a couple of shots. Maybe Communism, then someone buys one of each, so everyone gets a shield and a harpoon?
